- Q: want to tile counter top with out using hardboard
- Can yes you can (can means able to). And you may do it as long as the subsurface of the counter where you place the tile on is solid and will not move (most counter tops have too much movement in them to keep the grout from cracking). You can check this by standing or sitting on the counter top and see if your weight makes even the slightest bow in the counter top. If you decide your counter top is strong and stable enough then make sure you sand (rough up) the Formica before you try to cover it with anything else. What you might consider doing is placing either 1/2 inch cement board or another layer of 3/4 birch plywood or MDF board screwed and glued down to the existing counter top. Tile is expensive so do it right.
- Q: For my Science fair project i am testing different types of toothpastes and I was planning on soaking tiles in different liquids to satin them, but I don‘t know which tile would work? Any Ideas?
- Why soak them? All normal tiles have a glazing on them and the glaze finish can be different to test the different stuff you want to test on them. You have bright glaze , matte glaze satin glaze. Some stone tiles with no glaze on them at all that might stain . Some stones you can seal w/a sealer to see how that works. Go to your local mom and pop type flooring store and tell them this is a school project and ask if they have any spare tile to give you. We helped many school projects over the years . Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar. GL
- Q: What should you pay attention to when installing tiles?
- Empty drums, shedding flatness after 3 days to see just finished shop looks like can not see
- Q: My husband and I bought a house where most of the rooms (kitchen, dining room, entertainment room, den, and laundry room) are all tiled with these Terra cotta like tiles. They are a southern type rusty red and stain easily. My husband loves the tiles and wants to keep them. He‘s concented on changing the color if I want though, as long as I keep the origional tile. I‘m trying to make the house look a bit more elegant/country (Blues, silvers, whites, golds, dark greens, etc. Elegant and formal but still bright and airy) While keeping the tile, is there any way to stain it another color and do some kind of glossy seal? What color might keep that feel? What kind of products work best?
- I wouldn't bother doing it. You could get a sealer the seal the tile because I think I remember my dad saying Terra Cotta tiles are very porous. But I don't think that trying to put paint or changing its color would give you satisfactory results.
- Q: I was quoted $5.75 for tile install and $2.25 for concrete board per square foot.
- If that is what you were quoted by someone who is going to do the job - then that is the going rate for them. Which is likely in line with what other installers of tile charge in your area. Get other estimates or quotes from the people who will actually do the job. There is no standard/going rate that is applicable in every city, in every state across the country.
- Q: Please help! and give as much information you can about the invention of tiles!
- The earliest finds of roof tiles are documented from a very restricted area around Corinth (Greece), where fired tiles began to replace thatchet roofs at two temples of Apollo and Poseidon between 700-650 BC.[1] Spreading rapidly, roof tiles were within fifty years in evidence for a large number of sites around the Eastern Mediterranean, including Mainland Greece, Western Asia Minor, Southern and Central Italy.[2] Early roof tiles showed an S-shape, with the pan and cover tile forming one piece. They were rather bulky affairs, weighting around 30 kg apiece.[3] Being more expensive and labour-intensive to produce than thatchet, their introduction has been explained with their greatly enhanced fire resistance which gave desired protection to the costly temples.[4] The spread of the roof tile technique has to be viewed in connection with the simultaneous rise of monumental architecture in archaic Greece. Only the appearing stone walls, which were replacing the earlier mudbrick and wood walls, were strong enough to support the weight of a tiled roof.[5] As a side-effect, it has been assumed that the new stone and tile construction also ushered in the end of 'Chinese roof' (Knickdach) construction in Greek architecture, as they made the need for an extended roof as rain protection for the mudbrick walls obsolete. - Q: im layng tile and the room is 13 long and 11 wide how many tiles would that take
- 13x11=143 s/f. All tile is sold by the s/f and a lot of times by the whole box. So w/o knowing the size of tile your using or the box size we can t help other than giving you a total s/f of the room.. Added tiles will be needed but again w/o the tile size its hard to figure in the scrap you ll need for cuts. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: It‘s something I really want to do, I find myself longing for it often. Tile or ceramic, not sure yet. But, my house is 1485 square feet and I‘m wondering if anyone has a ball park estimate for what price range I‘m looking at! I know different variables like tile vs ceramic, etc, but just looking for a range if anyone can help. Thanks!
- do it yourself and save tons of money.
- Q: Jane marble tiles how to join
- See what place, if someone in the agent you can not proxy
- Q: hi, we need to put tiles for a room of size 10x16 fts . we will be using 2x2 ft vitrified tiles. I want to know how many tiles are required and how the cost of tile is defined in shop. (price is for 1 piece or 1 sq feet ?)
- 10x16=160/(2x2)=160/4=40 tile you have 160 sq ft if they price it that way you need 40 tile if they price it that way If the tile come in 12 per box then divide 40 by 12 = 3.4 boxes which they most likely will make you buy 4 boxes (extra in case you break a couple. While doing the job, make sure you mix the tile out of the boxes so if there is a difference in color your floor will not show a change in color but will have the colors mixed across the floor..... Have fun
