Q: My husband bought me the 14th limited edition Better Homes and Gardens book... and I've had alot of recipes not taste great. I have to alter them alot and then they're okay (FYI- I cook great, it's not me, its the recipes). Also I've found alot of errors with the index and page numbers. I was just wondering if Betty Crocker makes a better cookbook and if there's a better variety. I know the BHG is huge, but it really doesn't seem like there's a lot of desserts or cookies, and I LOVE cooking.Let me know what you think, and if you can recommend a specific book that would be great too!
Betty Crocker, it's so comprehensive. Everything from defining herbs and spices to kitchen utensils, cooking/cutting methods, safe temps for all foods, recipes...what a masterpiece.
Q: Do you know any sites that has good landscaping pictures to get ideas? I have planted 6 fruit trees, and now need to do the landscaping and the ground work to cover the dirt and make it look nice.If i don't cover the dirt, weed keeps growing and dried grass. Pls help, thanks!
Go okorder (Better Homes and Gardens). They have landscaping plans for all types of yards and conditions, along with substitute plants for the ones they list in some of them. They also have a program on their site where you can create your own plan by plugging in the dimensions of your yard and adding plants the size you want to see how it will look. One good way to keep the weeds from coming through is to put down black plastic before you plant. Fasten it down well (we cut about 6 lengths of wire and bend them like staples), cut holes in it where you want your plants, and plant them through it. You can cover it with mulch once you've finished to hide the plastic. The plastic also holds in moisture and heat, so you won't have to water as often.
Q: suggested category...Home and Garden....pffff!
You have to follow some vastu guide lines.
Q: where can you buy Jackfruit here in southern California?
I'd imagine an ethnic Asian market would have them. 99 Ranch Market would probably have them. You can find one in the San Fernando Valley if I remember correctly.
Q: I have a sort of Mexican themed home with lots of dark rich colors leather furniture. Thank you so much!
I'd put up a few taco bell napkins and menus on the wall. Have some packs of extra soft tp around, and a few point setta's and I think the house would look great. If you need me to design the basement let me know, I got a great tool shed theme in mind.
Q: the one's from stores don't seem to work
Good home made fertilizers: Compost: made form leaves, twigs, grass clippings and garbage. Wood ashes from the fireplace and/or grill. Epsom salt (in small doses )can make nutrients more available to plants. If you decide to buy some fertilizer use a balanced organic fertilizer Gypsum is a good additive for most vegetables.
Q: I'm looking for the buckeye candy recipe from he Better Homes Gardens Christmas Cookie publication from 1998. They had a 50-State salute that year, and the buckeye was the recipe for Ohio. If anyone has this, please please post it for me.
Candy Ingredients: 1 stick softened butter 1 3/4 c. (1 18 oz. jar) creamy peanut butter 1 tsp. vanilla About 1 lb. confectioners' sugar Chocolate Coating Ingredients: 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 tbsp. vegetable shortening Directions: Cream butter, peanut butter, and vanilla together, adding confectioners' sugar until the right consistency is reached. Roll candy into 1-inch balls and place on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Melt chips and shortening together in the top of double boiler, and keep the chocolate mixture in the double boiler over low heat while dipping the candy. Using toothpicks, dip each ball into the chocolate mixture, covering 3/4 of candy. Place candy on the cookie sheet to cool. Makes about 8 dozen pieces.
Q: My son found a stranded crab in the edge of a river. He brought it home and put it in the garden somewhere. The garden has a mango and an orange tree. It also has varied types of nature and flowers. I have seen it oftentimes trying to get into the house. Is it dangerous to have it there?
I'm sure the crab was not stranded. It needs to go back to its home where there is flowing WATER.I wish people would leave organisms alone and let them be.
Q: home of the famous English gardens , term used in England for waiting line , signal

Q: I just bought my first house and I finally have a nice big yard. I want to start gardening but I have the black thumb of doom when it comes to plants. Is there a good web site for people like me who are just starting with gardening ? Like how to start compost, tips, what certain plants need, stuff like that that is easy to understand.
