Q: Or can stranded wire of the same gauge be subsitituted for solid wire without any consequences? The reason I ask is because its for a massive 4kJ capacitor discharge circuit, and I need all the energy delivered to the power coils im using, cant afford to have much leakage inductance.
Stranded wires have slightly higher inductance than solid wires, but this is noticable only on transmission lines and larger conductors. if you are only using a short conductor, i don't think the inductance of the wire will affect the system, unless the wire is coiled.
Q: I just installed a Unity Spotlight on my 2007 Chevy Impala. There's a 6 inch wire coming out of the handle. When I stripped the wire there is a few strands of copper wire. How do I wire up the light? There isn't a distinct positive or negative.
I okorder /... check out literature for others, if this don't help.
Q: I want to install a single-pole dimmer switch for a series of 4 pot lights in the same box (double gang) as a kill switch for a receptical already installed. There is a 14-3 wire (b/w/r/g) brigning power into the box from the main, and 14-2 wiring for the dimmer and 14-2 wire for the kill switch. How do I wire this? The single pole dimmer has a ground and two black wires. The switch to kill the receptical has only two brass screws on one side.
Wires that have continual power are called source wires. One of the source wires (any color other than white or green) should be hooked up to one of the brass screws on your kill switch. The other brass screw will have the wire going to the receptacle. NOTE: A switch is used to connect/break the connection of power going to an appliance/fixture. The other source wire will go to one of the black wires on your dimmer switch. The other black wire on the dimmer switch will go to the 4 pot lights as its source, in which we call a switch leg. The ground wire of the dimmer switch is hooked to the ground wire in the box. No white or neutral wires are needed for this...Test the wires first so that you know what wire is for what. Then, make sure you turn off all power so that you don't damage the dimmer switch.
Q: I am in the middle of changing my thermostat and I am so lost on where the wires go! Anyone who knows anything please help.My old system was labeled and hooked up like this:White Wire (W)Red Wire (R)Blue Wire (B)Green Wire (G)Now I am looking at my new system and these are the spots that I have:(G) (RH)(RC)This has a red wire attached like a jumper wire(Y/O) (W/B) (Y1)What wires do I plug into where? Please re-post with the wire color next to where it should go.
Based on normal practice It doesn't appear that you have air conditioning, only convential/gas heat. And the thermostat you bought is for air conditioning and heat pump systems. It likely will still work, you'll have to read through the book to see how to program it for convential heat in the installer set-up Red wire to (R) doesn't matter which one White wire to (W) Green wire to (G) Blue wire to nothing, the blue wire was your common wire which is required to make the old thermstat work off power from the unit, the new thermostat runs on batteries and doesn't have the option to run off power from the unit. Note: turn the power off to the unit, touching red and blue together will short out the transformer
Q: I'm trying to install a ceiling fan but I'm having trouble with the wiring. Coming out of the fan I've got a black, white, black and white striped, and a green wire. coming out of the cieling i've got a black, a white and a red wire. The fan's green wire is connected to the bracket as a ground, so that's out of the way. It's the other wires that confuse me. I've tried, white to white, black to black, and BW striped to red, but that didn't do anything.Any ideas? Thanks.
Be careful when with just hooking Black to Black or White to White as has been suggested. In some configurations the white wire is part of the switch leg and is not nuetral. Being that this is a 50 year old house, the Hot wire from the breaker box could very possibly be coming in at the light box instead of the switch box which would mean that there is a wire that is using both the Black and the White wires for power. One of them is taking power to the switch and the other is bringing power back to the light from the switch when the switch is turned on. In this scenario, the white wire would not be nuetral!!! The brown wire was typicallly used for hot up into the 70's and then they changed it to black. Your best bet is to hook it up exactly the way you took it off and hook the Blue and Black wire from your fan to the same wire. I assume that this fan has pull chain controls for both the light and the fan?.....
Q: What exactly is a quot;Jumping Wirequot;? What are the most common methods of motor vehicle theft? Is there any other option that stealing the keys or hot-wiring it?
And add a former police officer to her list: Don't listen to Angelica, she is a cop, a vet, a former criminal, a doctor, she works at a salon (where she got best answer, scary) AP world history teacher, AP High School teacher health major, AP economics and history teacher, she has MD in world history, she works at Nordstroms, she works in human resources, and her most offensive answer, she was a preacher. She also works at Verizon.

Q: What are those strange ball-like things that are on some electric/telephone wires? I think they're on electric wires. I've always wondered.
They're usually on High-Tension wires? They're on those high-up wires to help aircraft pilots see and avoid them, if they happen to fly low enough. I've seen them on HT wires near a place called Echo Lake, in Colorado, oddly enough, and I don't think that there is an airfield nearby, so I think they put those balls on high wires in any open spaces, where low-flying aircraft would be an issue.
Q: Who makes the best spark plug wires? i think the ones on my car are crap...they are Mag*star O.E. replacements, and they suck. What do you recomend? Its an 89 thunderbird
Get some bosch wires.
Q: I have a 2000 Mazda 626, and I am replacing the factory stereo with a Sony CDX-GT66UPW, I tried replacing it earlier and had to cut off the end plastic pieces for the original stereo wires and stripped the wires, So now I am trying to match up the wires from the new stereo with the old colors, But I don't know what color goes to what on the mazda? Can anyone give me a color coded diagram for the wiring?
In okorder /... There's a pretty good chance you'll need to replace a blown fuse in the vehicle's fuse box, too, especially if you cut all the wires together instead of one at a time.
