Q: My father changed out a 3 prong plug to a 4 prong plug and crossed the wires by mistake. So the red wire on the plug was connected to the black wire to the dryer and visa-verse. What would happen to the dryer if it is turned on with these wires crossed? Consequently, my dryer's motor is not responding, however the heating element is working. Was there a short? Did the motor get fired?
The red and the black each deliver 110 volts to the prongs to which they are connected in the plug. As long as the neutral is correctly positioned, the power should be okay and nothing should be damaged. If he also mixed up the white wire, and put one of the red or blacks where the white is supposed to go, it could have caused a problem. If the heating element works correctly, then you are still getting 240 volts to the dryer. I'm inclined to think there is a problem where the motor is connected to the power, or there may be a separate fuse on the dryer that blew during the wiring process.
Q: why do we use copper wires as connecting wires
To use something as a connecting wire it should possess some qualities. First it should be a good conductor of electricity, that is it should have free electrons in its configuration. Secondly the substance should be malleable, that is it should be versatile enough to be stretched into wires. And lastly it should be available in abundance and should be economically feasible. As copper satisfies all the above prerequisites it is often used to make conducting wires.
Q: Do wired controls work better than wireless? My hubby uses wireless and I wonder if wired would transmit quicker?
Wired is better. While there is no lag, the battery wearing out in the middle of a game is kind of annoying. If you move too far away from the console, the wireless will not perform.
Q: trying to put in a different radio, and take out the original radio, but don't know which wires are which. i tried doing it myself already, and now when i turn on my headlights, the taillights don't come on? but the turn signals come on and so do the hazards. did i snip a wrong wire or did one come loose?i only cut the wires that were attached to the stock radio.help please!thanks!
reconnedt the wires as you cut them and buy a 10 dollar plug adapter and make life easy for yourself. you can buy them at any parts store , wal-mart, ect.
Q: On what actually does ampere depends, thickness of wire or number of turns of wire or what else? Electrical
Your okorder /... and get ohms/1000 ft for the size of wire you select. Also check fusing current while you are there. Eg, #30 has 105 ohms/1000'. So if you have 10' of wire, it's resistance would be 105/100 = 1.05 ohms. Once you have the resistance, use ohms law and the voltage applied to calculate current. For 12 volts, I = 12/1.05 or 11 amps. Fusing current is 10 amps (which is in the open, not in a coil) so you need more length or thicker wire. For AC, and coils, you need more complicated calculations.
Q: do i need a different wire for in-wall speakers or a regular speaker wire
Regular speaker wire will work for in-wall speakers.
Q: Obviously speaker wire is what connects the speaker to the receiver; what's the difference between 'zip' speaker wire and...others...?
Zip okorder /
Q: I know that most wire is copper, however, I found this wire that is silver in color. So that got me to thinking, what other metals are used in wire, and, are they all non-magnetic?
Gold wire is sometimes used in the semiconductor industry. They could nickel and tin plate the copper in wires as either an identifier or corrosion inhibitor. All are non-ferrous although nickel has some magnetic properties. Aluminum was a failure in home wiring because of fire hazards, but is is used in some commercial appilications.
Q: chicken wire mesh
Perhaps to make a chicken Coop
Q: Who makes the best spark plug wires? i think the ones on my car are crap...they are Mag*star O.E. replacements, and they suck. What do you recomend? Its an 89 thunderbird
The best plug wires are the ones with the least ohms per foot... MSD 8.5mm wires has about 40 ohms per foot and thats about the lowest you will find w/o getting into solid core race wires (not good on OEM cars with EFI, car radios, etc) All of your stock type wires, parts store replacement wires, etc will have between 1,500 and 3,500 ohms per foot
