- Q: I bought a pair of BIC Acoustech PL 980 tower speakers. The speaker has two 8 active woofers. Not subwoofers, just woofers. I want to know what are active woofers in a tower speaker?
- BIC does not make towers that have amps built in to power their bass drivers. You have misread or misunderstood the product description. While there are some very high end systems that do this, what is powered are built in the same cabinet sub woofers. this in such a case, usually because the maker wants to provide a high end system whose sub bass he has more control over, and to meet a certain styling requirement, or perhaps to sell more of his own stuff. these are 20,000 and up systems, usually.
- Q: I have a sony system and it has 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer. The sony mini hi-fi system has the speaker ports for the sub and the 2 speakers. I also have another 2 speakers I want to hook up to the system. Is there a way I can wire this or buy something cheap to split the connections in my receiver so I can have all 4 speakers and the sub work at the same time on 1 receiver. Please Help!!!
- You can wire the speakers in parallel or series, depending on the amplifier and the speaker impedances. If the amplifier can drive a 4 ohm speaker on each channel, and you want to put two 8 ohm speakers on it, just connect them in parallel - that will approximate a 4 ohm speaker (be sure and connect the + to the + and the - to the - ). If the amplifier is rated to drive only 8 ohms, then you can either wire 8 ohm speakers in series, thereby approximating a 16 ohm speaker. This will minimize an over-current situation, but will result in a small, inconsequential mis-match which causes a small amount of power to be lost (it won't be noticeable w/o a sound meter). If the speakers are 4 ohms then wire them in series as well to produce an equivalent of 8 ohm impedance.
- Q: i have a peugeot 106 with stock speakers (front and rear) i have a cd player fitted, it's not a known make but apparently it has a peak amplitude of 51 watts. after the volume goes up to about 21 on the dial the music beomes too distorted to go any louder, do i need a better cd player or better speakers?
- Speakers are the problem. I like Infinity brand speakers.
- Q: I have a receiver that has 100 watt max output per channel. Currently, all outputs except for 1 are being used. I have 2 small speakers that I want to power that are 50 watts max each. What would happen if I connected the two speakers to the 1 output on the receiver? Also, the receiver allows you to adjust the volume of each speaker so if needed I can turn down the volume to just those two speakers. Any ideas or input? Thanks
- By connecting two speakers to the same output, you'll be changing the impedence of the load. This will result in poor quality of the sound with lots of distortion, and possibly damage your receiver. Typically, speaker outputs come in pairs. Which output is not being used?
- Q: I have Focal 165V speakers.
- 70w Rms
- Q: i know there subs are good but what about door speakers
- For one, speaker sound is subjective. I may love them and you may hate them and vice versa, but quality wise, even JL's lowest quality speakers are good. I think it would be hard to be disappointed with any JL speaker or sub. There may be something that performs comparably for less money, but JL's are good.
- Q: I want to buy new car speakers because mine blew out but idk if 240w pioneer car speakers are good enough to handle the loud music i listen to right now currently i have the original Ford F-150 speakers. will these speakers be anybetter than the originals?
- Aftermarket speaker are always better than most of stock speaker, not only you will listen to better sound quality, but you will be able to playthem louder, especially if you get a small amplifier.
- Q: How useful is a center channel speaker anyway?
- It depends what you listen to. A nice set of speakers do not need a center channel speaker to please the listener, because they have a full bodied sound. A center channel speaker is best with an amp attached to it to make it jump out noticeably from the sound stage, like a lead singer on stage. If you had an aerial view of two hand sized rocks dropped in a calm pond, one to the left the other to the right separating them no more than 3 feet. The waves would ripple and disburse through the water fairly evenly with some overlap. This is how sound dispersion works sourced from a set of speakers in the same room. If you used this same example and added a third rock to the center and dropped all three at the same time, the waves would ripple and overlap even more. This is a decent example of the effect of how a 2.1 and 3.1 speaker works to the benefit of the person who listens to the source. I would say the usefulness of a center channel speaker is best alongside video media. Audio does not need a center channel speaker per se. Listening with your eyes is always different than listening with only your ears. The additive effect of a center channel speaker enhances the entertainment of movies. Best.
- Q: I have a very stange problem. I have a headphone and its plugged into the back jack output on my comp. When I test the sound by playing a sound on left and right side, it works. But when I plug my new speakers into the same output it only plays in mono, (right and left channel sound llike its in the middle). It happened with 2 brand new set of speakers. Also those speakers have a jack audio output on them, and if I plug in the headphones there, it plays mono as well. It's driving me crazy, please help :/thank you
- when each speaker of the 2 speakers isnt SEPARATLY connected to each of the 2 separat channels in the stereo plug, then the audio will not be stereo, that can be the problem with that installtion. it needs then a set of speakers where each of the 2 speakers is connected distinct to each of the two channels in the stereo plug of the computer, then the audio will be stereo like in the headphones. what can be done is to simply use another speaker cabel that conducts both channels from the stereo plug sepratley to each of the 2 speakers, if the curent cabel of the speakers can be simply taken off, otherwise it will need to cut the plug of the speaker cabel off to solder on a new plug on the speaker cabel with of course each channel speparatly to each of the speakers, to have actual stereo.
- Q: I have a JVC R-x60 that i have 2 Sony 8 ohm tower speakers hooked up to but my left speaker is way louder than my right one. my balance is set at equal for both speakers and my wire going to each speaker is the same length, give or take a few inches. im clueless. any ideas?
- Hard to say. It could be an issue with the speakers or the amp or possibly with a source device (if using, for example, a DVD player). You can maybe isolate the problem by trying a couple of things. First, select the FM tuner section as your source and tune in a strong station. Is the sound still uneven? If not the amp and speakers are OK and the problem may be with your source device. If still unequal check the wiring between the speakers and the JVC to be sure you don't have a connection problem. Then try reversing the wiring so the right speaker is now connected to the left output. Does the signal reverse and the right speaker now sound louder? If so the fault isn't in the speaker it's something to do with the JVC R-x60. If not the speaker may be faulty. Good luck.
