- Q:How the speaker converts the electrical signal into an acoustic signal
- This magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet and drives the coil to vibrate. The cone connected to the coil is also vibrating, and the sound is emitted.
- Q:I tried to extend my hometheater speaker to fit my hall size, but after connecting (soldring) the extra wire the speaker volume has reduced. This is not the same for the speaker which is not extended.
- Longer speaker wire will increase resistance and that resistance can cause a slight change in speaker volume, but unless you added a hundred extra feet, I seriously doubt you would notice the change without testing equipment. I find it to be a safer bet that it's the added distance you put between the speakers and the listener that caused them to sound more quiet. While low frequencies can travel further without sound reduction, the volume of high frequencies will roll off much more quickly. Speakers are made to fit rooms of specific sizes. It could very well be that the speakers you have are designed to fit in a smaller room, or to at least be listen to at a closer range than where you have them now. Without taking away any speaker wire, try moving the speakers back to their original position and see if the volume returns. If it does, then you know it's not the added speaker wire causing the drop in volume.

- Any 4x6 speaker you want. The power rating of the speakers will far exceed anything your headunit is capable of outputting (which is about 20 - 23W RMS). Go to the store, listen to as many speakers as you can, pick one out that you like and fits your budget. Make sure the speakers are playing off the same headunit, powered by the same amp, and playing the same song. Compare apples to apples.
- Q:Do center channel speakers offer any advantage over a normal bookshelf speaker? I want a new center speaker but center channel speakers are so expensive compared to a bookshelf speaker.
- Actually yes you can. Center channel speakers were designed to be low profile and have a large listening angle. If you want to use a bookshelf speaker, you should not turn it on its side(assuming its a standard single woofer-tweeter design) as that would cause breakup nodes along the horizontal listening axis(which is a more important axis because typically not everyone is sitting perfectly in line with the speaker. A bookshelf speaker placed in its normal vertical position will typically not have the large off-axis response that a center channel speaker would. However, it will have a more even frequency response with less areas of cancellation between the multiple woofers. Basically, go ahead and do it, but make sure you leave the bookshelf speaker upright and try to sit as close to inline with the speaker as possible as this will give you the best sound possible.

- Speakers for cars are 4 ohms when two of them are parallel they run @ 2 ohms drawing twice the amps from an amp. It's not about if the Speakers can handle 2 ohms. Any speaker able to handle 200 RMS will work for your needs. Ohms have more to do with what your amp can handle.

- the size of the speaker has no longer something to do with the quantity of the receiver . I easily have had small and massive audio equipment in my front room and that they the two placed out the comparable volume of sound that my receiver can handle .

- Any cable that you get that fits into a headphones jack on a receiver is NOT speaker wire, period. Get REAL speaker wire, like 16 gauge wire, which comes with twin bare ends at both ends, to hook up speakers. Plus, even if you could plug a speaker into a headphone jack, speakers need watts of audio power, and headphone jacks put out MILLI watts of audio power, that is, a signal thats a thousand times too low to drive a speaker.
