Q: Found some electrical wiring resonably priced on craigslist but it says -----8 gauge (AWG), 3 wire, direct burry electrical cableDOES THAT MEAN ITS 3/0 WIRE? Because I need 3/0 wire direct burriedI am looking to buy some extra 3/0 wire and found some on craigslist for a reasonable price..
I am an electrician an, any time you use direct burial cable you are doing a half *** job. Call an electron use conduit and use conductors with a w listed in there insulation type Using direct burial cable instead of conduit is silly When the cable fails not if(could take years) you will be re-digging the trench
Q: I accidentally bought spark plug wires for a V6 2.7 liter engine and i own a 4 cyl 2.2 liter engine. are those wires interchangeable? i own a 95 Honda Accord
as long as they will fit they should work. they might be longer but you can always tie them up away from the manifold. you will have 2 extra wires left over.
Q: I'm trying to fix a light fixture for a friend. Her father-in-law gummed it up. At the fixture, there are 3 white wires soldered to a single wire. There are 3 black individual wires and one red wire. There are three switches that control the light. If I hook one of the black and the 3 white to the light, the light stays on constantly. If I hook either of the two other black individually, nothing comes on period.I'm pretty much at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Your wiring involves 2-3/way and 1-4/way switches plus a likely additional power circuit inside the junction box. Your wiring description does not contain enough info for anyone to instruct you in correct reconnection. You need to either call an electrician or let your friend's father-in-law fix it. Remember saying I don't know how to do this is nothing to be ashamed of.
Q: I made a kill switch for my car. All I need to do now is cut the wire that goes into my engine control module and join it with the switch I made. Would it be fine if I just use wire nuts or some sort of tape to join the wires instead of soldering? The instructions say quot;Step 6: Attach the killswitch wires one to each side of the wire you just cut. Step 7: Tape up all new connection.quot; It says to tape the new connections, but should I use exactly?
Sure thing. Wire nuts work fine. I've used them a bunch on my project cars. However, if you want a connection that won't be affected by water (rain and/or humidity) and a connection that is permanent (won't come loose) use automotive crimp type connectors covered with heat shrink tubing or liquid electrical tape.
Q: I'm looking to install a ceiling fan in a fixture that recently had just a light (no idea if it ever had a fan). When I removed the old light, I found that there were three white wires from the ceiling twisted together and connected to the white wire on the light fixture, one black wire from the ceiling connected to the black wire on the fixture, and three black and one white ceiling wires just capped together, not connected to the light fixture.Any idea what the last 4 wires are? I would think that I just need to leave them alone, however, I have to replace the box in the ceiling with one that is rated for a fan, which means I need to (temporarily) disconnect them. I have the breaker turned off that turned the light off, but can I be 100% sure that power to those other 4 wires if also off?
You don't have to know what they are, but other anwers are good esp with regard to safety. You can choose either to leave them alone or disconnect them and reconnect them inside your new ceiling box. If you want to disconnect them, be sure to mark all the cables first so you can't make a mistake when you reconnect them.
Q: I got the Rem wire down connected it to cd deck. But what does Rem stand for and what does it do?Remote Wire? what the hell it do where it run off?
The blue and white wire on the back of car stereos is not a remote wire, it is the antenna wire for power antennas. Which does not require 12 volts to power on the antenna motor. The remote wire is the same thing as the REM wire, REM is short for remote. This wire is used to send a 12 volt signal to external amplifiers to turn them on when the stereo is turned on.
Q: i want electrical symbol used in house wiring
wire Straight line, junction box -x switch x with a line Thur it out let sq with dots motors circle with line Thur it the only time I know of a symbol is used is in schematics house wiring just shows where the main box is switches ,lights motors , outlets , voltage
Q: for a kids robot kitabout a 4 inch black wire--other side is red...the tip broke off--i tried to strip it---but the rest of the wire is copper colored and thinner--the end had a harder silver tipwhat is a wire like this called--would radio shack have it--i can't seem to find it on their website
It okorder /... What you now have is stranded wire that has been tinned on one end. A tinned wire is one that has been soldered to keep the strands together and make for a stronger connection. If the wire must be flexible then replace with stranded wire. Solid wire will be easier for you to work with but not will not work as well if the wire moves a lot. Additional Yes you could solder the wires if there is enough to hook to. The size wire I think you are talking about can be soldered with about any small soldering iron and resin core solder. You might even slip a piece of heat shrink tubing over the wire before you solder the wire. After making the connection you can slide the heat shrink tubing in place, heat the tube to insulate the connection.
Q: I know the ground wire takes unused electricity to the ground but what is the purpose of the neutral wire?
The neutral wire is supposed to be the wire that functions to take the current from the hot side back to the power line. The ground is there as a safety measure - in 3 wire appliances, the ground is usually connected to the housing. It is there in case some part of the hot circuit becomes shorted to the appliance housing - if that happens on a modern 3-wire electrical system, it will cause the breaker to trip. Or, if the appliance is plugged into a ground fault interrupter GFI, that will generally trip first, before the breaker.
