Q:Assuming that it is safe to do so as far as people not getting hurt, will it damage the electrical equipment?
Some appliances like for instance your computer require a shutdown routine in sequence to be happy. Joists are not wall studs. They bear weight and load differently. Drill a 1/2 to 3/4 inch hole through the joist at least 2inches up from the bottom, or dry wall side. Any lower and you can serious damage and weaken the joist in your ceiling. Good Luck

You would need a license to do work for others. You MAY find internet classes but still need to take a State test. Then there is the insurance angle. Doing electrical work for others could cost you a whole lot if there is a problem. Friends and relation are the first to sue when there are problems.
Q:I cannot see that a electrode would be useful in a generator, is there a way?
According to Wikipedia: An electrode is an electrical conductor used to make contact with a nonmetallic part of a circuit (e.g. a semiconductor, an electrolyte or a vacuum). There is an example of an electrode used in generators, and all industrial/commercial electrical systems. It is called a grounding electrode. It is a metallic rod that is driven deep in to the dirt, to establish a contact with the background Earth voltage. Is the dirt a nonmetallic part of the circuit? Well, dirt often does contain metals in it, but it isn't dominantly metal, so it still is considered non-metallic. And we normally hope that the dirt isn't part of the circuit, but there is a chance that it can become part of the circuit, and that is generally why grounding electrodes are installed. The grounding electrode doesn't really play an active role in the operation of any of the electrical equipment. It is more of a safety feature, as a JUST IN CASE the insulation on the live wire fails. Suppose the live wire insulation fails, and the live wire contacts the metal structure of a device (that isn't intended to play an electrical role), and you as a human victim touch that metal structure. You are also standing on the ground, and the natural path of electric current from the metal structure to the ground is through your body. Unless of course, a better path is established in advance. And that is what a grounding electrode, and the rest of the grounding system does. It establishes electrical continuity with all metals that aren't intended to be electrically involved, so that any failure of the live wire will trip the circuit breaker before there is a chance that the human gets injured.
Q:I want to know if it would be feasible to make exercise equipment (like a bike, treatmill, stair stepper, etc.) that would produce a small amount of electricity when used. Q:i dont understand this, every surge protector claims to protect phone lines from surges but why?
Two weeks ago we had a heavy duty thunder storm. it went through the Phone Line this is what got fried, Telephone, DSL modem. Router, Ethernet card in desktop computer, PS3 So I guess it went through phone then modem then Ethernet card, to router that was wired to the PS3. This is why you want to protect your phone lines if you have DSL. I learned a very expensive lesson. I now have my phone/DSL line surge protected.
Q:Curiosity just got the best of me. To be electrocuted one should make a complete circuit, right? What if you just touch the live wire and nothing else, you're not standing on anything, no ground. you're in mid air. Any thoughts? Thanks
Basically correct. Power line technicians can work on live power lines via helicopter in this manner. And that's how all the birds sit on power lines. Although not touching a wire is not enough. At higher voltages, you'll get arcing if you just get close enough to another source. So a small bird can sit on a power line with no problem. But if it's not designed well, a larger bird with extended wings can get electrocuted even without touching the lines at all.
