Q: I have a full-time job but would like to dabble in residential electrical work for friends and family. What would I need to do? I would like some kind of formal license and training but don't want to go back to school or commit to any long-term programs. This is in Massachusetts.
Massachusetts Department of Public Safety requires that only licensed electricians can work for hire on electrical equipment, wiring, conduits, motors, etc. To get a license you will be required to work 4000 hours under a licensed Class A or C electrician and complete an extensive training course. Also, you will be required to take and pass an exam. After all that you are required to take 25 hours of certified training every two years. This will be or already has been increased. To work on CCTV, Burglar alarm systems, or Access Control systems a S license is required. If you don't get paid you still have to worry about the exposure and getting insurance to cover this exposure would be impossible if not licensed.
Q: I have a dental Lab in Europe an want to move it to the States, maybe. Some of the equipment rates as high as 4kw, and the the total maximum draw is 15 kw for the whole lab. Can I wire a secondary breaker box in a building in the United States that is all 220?
Sell it off in Europe and start off with new equipment in the States. All European electrical appliances operate on 50 Hz/cycles when American appliances use 60 Hz. It's not feasible to adapt the change. There is 220V service available here but it's all 60Hz. EDIT: If the equipment is rated for 50/60 Hz you can use it here, you'll have to bring in an electrician to provide the power for it that can produce a stable/clean 220V. Most of the time higher voltage equipment will be rated to perform between 208-230V although having a single-phase power supply for 220V is feasible provided your equipment is indeed single phase. I'd think that what you have for a dental lab wouldn't require three phase power, best to consult with a master electrician before you commit to shipping your stuff stateside to be sure. Good luck.
Q: Could this be potentially Electrokinesis?I am prone to having a LOT of static shocks. My computer freezes on me, my TV turns over by itself, my computer, Ipod, Phone turn off by themselves. My phone rings random people, if I put my finger about a centimeter over my touch screen on my Ipod it still works, the internet keeps disconnecting for meyou get the idea. Why does this happen? could it be out of control electrokinesis?
It could either be a paranormal phenomenon, or you simply treat your electronic devices so poorly that they fail frequently. I'm betting on the latter.
Q: How can I get a claim from the power company for damaged electrical equipment caused by a power surge?
final i knew because of the fact of this you had sources proprietors coverage no you will coach that the neighbor led to a surge with a tiny gadget like that surges come from mass intake drop off or mass enter - like a lightning strike with a gadget that small its virtually impossible to reason considered one of these extensive sufficient one to reason this style of harm your speaking approximately i artwork lots with electrical energy - an electric powered tree trimmer does not devour that style of power plus you have breakers on your place for a reason - they could have tripped
Q: does adjusting the router's position about an inch or adjusting the direction of the antenna affect my laptops browsing speed?
It can indeed. Moreover, adjusting your router position actually increases or decreases your wireless signal. Your wireless signal strength has a large bearing on your browsing speed. However, an inch or two should make little to no difference. But dont rule it out.
Q: I am undecided whether I want to become a Electrical Engineer or a Master Electrician. I know that Master Electricians can start their own business (Contractor) or take responsibility on a project. Electrical Engineers are the ones who design electrical equipment and that design the electrical projects. I am just curious of which career would have more opportunity to make more salary. I also would like to know if an Electrical Engineer can also be a contractor like the Masters electricians. Country: USA
I've been fortunate enough to be on both sides of this fence and I will say being an EE is the way to go. To become a Master Electrician you will have to go through first becoming a Journeyman Electrician. This usually requires a minimum of 4 years of work without an Associates degree, 2 years of work experience with an Associates degree or 1 year of experience with a BSEE. Then after you have had your Journeymans license for a year you can then take the test to become a Master Electrician. Thats how its done in my state, yours may be different. With any of them though you just can't come straight out of school and be a Master Electrician. I started out life wanting to be an electrician and got my Associates degree in Electrical Technology to do so. I worked as an electrician for 2 years before I went back to school and got my BSEE. Both are respectable jobs but I really like my engineering job a lot more, my back likes it a lot more too. Personally my starting salary as an EE was more than was paid to the Master Electricians at the first electrical contractor I worked for. Remember though, money isn't everything!
Q: Hi all, i wish to travel to the states soon and would like to bring some electrical items back, as-well as clothes when i travel to New York. From research i have already learned that these goods brought back into the UK can total ?340. But my question is this, if i travel to the US with very little luggage - no clothes or electrical equipment. Then in New York i buy a nice laptop, ipod touch, digital camera (but take the electrical stuff in with my hand luggage) how will they be able to know if the items i want to bring on the plane were in fact brought with me from the UK to US and were already mine? Also if customs say that i have to pay tax for going over the ?340 - how much will it be? say e.g. on a $2000 laptop?
Knife (with a pointy or pointed blade and/or a blade longer than 6cm) super scissors (with blades longer than 6cm) 'Strike everywhere' fits (non-risk-free practices fits) Fireworks, flares and different pyrotechnics, inclusive of occasion poppers and toy caps Cigarette lighter (yet you are able to hold a single lighter on your individual) Darts Catapult drugs and scientific kit you are able to properly be asked to teach that any drugs or scientific kit is critical for the dimensions of your trip. you're able to try this by way of showing a duplicate of your prescription or a letter out of your physician. in basic terms soak up your hand luggage what you opt for for the trip.
Q: I have a hanging, pull-string electrical light in my attic. This is very standard stuff. I would like to purchase an electrical device that will screw into the electric light and give me an electrical outlet. Think of this as a device with the base of an electric light bulb and an electical outlet instead of the bulb. I thought I saw one in a hardware store 20 years ago, but I have no idea if this product still exists. I can not think of what it would be called with a technical name when searching for one on the Internet. My business application is to be able to plug equipment into my attic rather than running the cord into the main house.
Actually okorder
Q: i am instrument electrical eng.student and i am about to take 2 of the 4 subject for electives, here the subject:1)process control2)automation and robotic3)measurement and instrumentation4)control system 3i am thinking to involve in maintainance, oil and gas or maybe aircraft maintainance.after grad.what is the subject is suitable and what is the subject advantage and disadvantage. i want get some advice before make the decision.tq
Well. it is very good major Oil and Gas companies need ur major since the instrumentation is controlling the whole units. Huge Essential System and very critical in any refinery such as: DCS : Digital Control Center. ESD: Emergency Shutdown. UPS: Uninterrupted Power Supply ( Electrical Equipment feeds instrument load) I think u have a bright future with this discipline if you have interests . And regarding these Subjects, i dont know much about control All the best
Q: I own a manufacturing facility in NJ, I have an electrician on staff. does he need to be licensed? can he run new wires and install panels if inspected? it is only work within our building.
As long as the work meets the NJ building codes, is inspected passed, I think you're OK. Personally, I would want my staff electrician to hold a valid license.
