Q: I am looking for some answers when it comes to soldering wires. Lets say I am using 6 to10 (22 AWG 2 conductor wires) and I want to solder those to 1 wire for power source and 1 wire for ground. Now lets say soldering 10 wires to 1 wire for power and 10 wires to 1 wire for ground. All the wires are the same AWG guage. Now that the wires are twisted together and soldered to the hot and ground source, by doing this will I actually make a resistor or change the amperage or reduce the voltage by soldering so much wires together to a 1 wire source? The power source I am using is 12 Volts. If anyone knows of anywhere I can find this information online, etc, I would appreciate it.: The amount of wires won't create a resistance or change the current. The devices and the power consumption of each will affect current. How do you think a car fuse panel works? Many fuses (connections) all come from the same positive wire on the car battery. The battery provides well enough current for every device to be turned on (for a period of time) and no device will suffer from lack of current. ____________________________ Resistors are what limit the current to LEDs. The only way to exceed the wattage of a resistor is to short out the LED.

Q: hello,i have lots of 8 gauge wire resting at my closet. And i'm very interested on doing the big 3 upgrade to my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt. May i see any improvement with 8 gauge wire?...i know that at least 4 gauge is recommended...but i dont want to spend money.: You probably won't see/hear a difference even if you use 1/0 wire, but there will be one. 8 awg big three will probably at least double the current carrying capacity of your stock wiring. To say it would be a waste of time would be ignorant IMO. It certainly won't hurt anything and will make a significant reduction in resistance compared to what's already there. I did my big 3 with 8 awg. I'm running 1500w rms with a stock 130A alternator.

Q: I have a new light fixture I am trying to install. The electrical box has two sets of black and white wires coming in. Both of the black wires are connected together while the white wires from either set were used to connect the old fixture. How should I wire in the new fixture. The switch for this light has only one set of black and white wires connected to the light switch.: Identify the wiring so you have the power feed and the switch leg and then put some black tape on the white wire going to the switch. This should be connected to the black power feed and then the white from the power feed is connected to the white of the fixture and the black from the switch leg is connected to the black of the fixture.

Q: I am replacing a 2 wire circuit for a fan/light combo with a 3 wire fan/light combo switch. I ran a new 12/2 w/grnd to the switch box. I ran a 12/3 w/grnd to the ceiling box for the fan. I have a ceiling fan and light control switch that control light and fan separately. I can't figure out which wires go to what.: Normally, they are tagged as to which is the light, or the operators manual will say (e.g., solid black for fan, black with white stripe for lamp). If not, you'll have to either test with a meter (check for continuity with one wire and the center of the light fixture) or make a guess and switch if it doesn't line up the way you want the switches to operate.

Q: But I want to switch it and wire the red ceiling wire to the black fan wire and the black ceiling wire to the black/white fan wire so that the particular switches work the way I want them to. Is this ok, to switch them?: Black wire on the fan is for the fan motor, red wire in the fan is for the light, the white wire is the neutral wire. So if you do want to switch the light off and on you have to tie red wire to the switch and the black wire can be tied to the hot at the ceiling box so you can control the fan with the chain only. If you have one switch leg in your circuit then you cannot do anything but switch them both if you tie them together. I think I am understanding what you are saying here. White Alyse ties to white Black is for the fan motor and the red is for the light. If you have three wires in the switch then you can tie them the same way color to color. Q: I know the ground wire takes unused electricity to the ground but what is the purpose of the neutral wire?: The neutral returns unused electricity back to the source where as the ground provides a pathway for an electrical short to return back to the panel and then to an earth ground.
