Q:My girlfriend and I recently moved into a house that we recently purchased. The bathroom sink is extremely clogged...to the point that a decent strength snake cannot begin to break through. The clogging is probably a long standing build up of hair, etc. Is there a liquid that can eat through it perhaps or maybe something better than a metal snake that will clear it? We can't really afford to have a plumber come in right now, and so I want to get this cleared myself. Thanks in advance!
My bathroom sink gets that way once in a while from hair. The best way to get the hair out that I have found is to take a wooden dowel rod, rough it up a little on the end and stick it down in the drain and start turning/twisting it. It will grab the hair and wad it up in a ball on the end of the dowel. When it gets hard to twist, pull it out and remove the ball of hair. Repeat this if necessary. I use a 3/16 diameter dowel and you can get them cheap in the Walmart craft department. One dowel used for this purpose will last for many years. With this method, you don't have to take anything apart and you don't need any wrenches and it only takes 2 or 3 minutes.
Q:The sink in my bathroom is backing up. Does anybody have any trick to unclog it. I'm not sure about using drain'o. I heard that just makes it worse.
Sometimes Drano will work. It depends on what's in the drain. It may require taking the drain apart. Under the sink is a U shaped pipe. That is probably where the plug is. With luck you have a drain plug at the bottom of this U. If so just remove that and fish around inside with a wire. If you don't have a drain plug there (most likely not) unscrew the first big nut around the pipe you come to at either end of the U. You will probably need a pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench for this. Wiggle the U shaped pipe around and take it loose. Pour water and whatever the plug is into a bucket and replace pipe. Put pan under drain before loosening bolts because you will have a water leak. Should drain sink as much as possible before you loosen the pipe. You may need to replace pipe washers and wrap threads with plumbers tape before reinstalling. Both washers and tape won't cost more than $5.00.
Q:The water just sits in the sink for hours.
undo pipe under sink more than likely it is full of hair
Q:What is the style of the bathroom basin?
Basin faucets are also divided into single-hole basin faucets and double-hole basin faucets, and if there are more problems, you can click on ID consultation.
Q:So my bathroom sink is really clogged. There's a small pool of water in my sink that won't drain at all. I dumped boiling water down the overflow hole but that didn't do anything. I used a plunger on the hole in the sink which still didn't do anything. I've used a bent hanger w/ a hook on the end to get out stuff from it but there's nothing else getting stuck on the hanger. I don't have a snake or anything to use. Is there a way I can get the water to drain at least long enough to get drain-o. And even then, if the water doesn't drain in that time, will drain-o still get through the pipes when there's water in it. Please help me out here. Thank you so much. <3
There are a couple of answers here, yes a liquid drain opener will sink to where the clog is since the liquid is heavier than water, but that method uses corrosive liquid and might temporarily solve the problem but may cause problems in the future. The better solution is to drain the trap under the sink. Every sink is required to have a trap, and there should be a drain plug in it. Be sure to have a pail large enough to catch the water under neath before you start to loosen the drain plug. If it is a P-trap you should be able to remove a section once it is drained and remove the plug in the sink drain and you should be able to find the cause of the clog. Good luck!
Q:There is no width of 30 cm wash basin cabinet
Of course not, wash basin is generally 55 width. Pots are generally the smallest 35
Q:In both bathrooms the drain ring has corroded and I'm afraid it will begin to leak. Is there a way to replace the rings without replacing the sinks? If so, what tools are needed and how long of a job is it? Or, do I have to call a plumber for this?
For the best answers, search on this site okorder BarKeepers Friend. Wal-Mart next to the COmet. It is in a gold canister and all you do is wet the area, sprinkle it on, let sit 5 minutes then come back with a toothbrush or 3m scrubber. That stuff safely cleans practically everything.
Q:Our bathroom sink is leaking where the trap meets the pipe that goes into the wall. How can we tell what size the pipe is? What special tools (if any) are needed? Thank you.
No special tools needed. If you can't twist the connections apart, you might need a pair of channel locks to help. First see if it is just loose, or needs to be replaced. There is two sizes of P-trap, 1 1/4 or 1 1/2. Take the old one to Lowes, and they will fix you up.
Q:hey guys, today i barfed in my bathroom sink and it got clogged. how would i unclog it? i have no plunger or drainer fluid, so what could i do? thanks
Stop drinking so much... Buy a cheap plunger. Use the kitchen sink to brush your teeth for now...
