- Q: i have red juice stains on my tan carpet. how can i get it out without bleaching the carpet. i used a carpet cleaner and it just lightened the stains. what to do next? thanks :)
- dollar store or a hardware store. spot shot in a spray can with a red or orange top. Follow instructions and it will remove any stain from carpet. I have used this to remove dried blood after two years. Other things would not touch it and this worked quick.
- Q: I purchased a very beautiful antique rug 2 days ago. The rug had been locked away in storage for years. It has a relatively strong musty odor. It is too delicate for professional deep cleaning. I have gently beaten it to remove dust, and now have it hanging in an open garage. I sprayed it with Febreze, but that only helps for a few minutes. Do you think it just needs to air out and give it time or is there something safe I can use on it? It is huge, like 10ft x 14 ft. No deep cleaners will touch it because they fear they will damage it. Help anyone! Thank you.
- I have many antique and vintage rugs which came to me really smelling bad. The one thing you can do to absorb the odor without damaging the fiber is to sprinkle it with baking soda and letting it sit, vacuuming it up and reapplying until the odor is absorbed. I have tried airing them out and have found that most of them that are natural fibers (like wool and silk) just don't smell good still when put indoors in a closed room and further, if you live in a smoggy, dusty or hazy area like I do, they simply pick up other odors from the environment. I have found treating both sides with the baking soda helps, too, because the backing particularly if it is a natural fiber, is also impregnated with the same odor as the fibers.
- Q: Our family just moved into an apartment with 4 year old carpet (the manager verified the installation date). We plan on moving in 4 years when my husband is done with medical school. Therefore, the carpet would be 8 years old. We would like to pay to replace the carpeting, but the manager is claiming that the carpeting we are looking at isn't quot;commercial gradequot; and that it won't last after we move. The manager also claims that the carpeting that is currently installed could potentially last another 4-8 years. The current rule here is that if you damage the carpet and it must be replaced within the first 7 years, you must pay x/7 of the value. My question is: If we trash our carpet and move out in 4 years, they won't be able to charge us. Why can't I just replace it now with carpeting that I like? Does this sound right? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
- They will be able to charge you because the carpet you are installing is not commercial grade? If you replace it, are you really going to live in that SAME apartment? It's not worth it to replace someone else's place. Save yourself the money and be happy. Put rugs over it or something that you like, don't replace the carpet!
- Q: The rug will hang on a wall. The major background color is white, so it will need to be cleaned about once a year. How should I clean it?
- Any spray adhesive should work, look in the local craft store. For a more finished appearance, rugs and wall hangings should be bound. You can use either a sew on binding or an iron on. To finish without binding, cut canvas at least 3 holes beyond the outside edge of the design, fold to back of rug , match mesh and baste in place. To finish with binding, cut canvas at least 3 holes beyond the outside edge of the design, then cut the corners diagonally about away from the pile. Then with right side facing you, sew one edge of the binding as close as possible the knotted edge. Turn so the back is facing you, then fold back and sew the other edge of the binding to the back of the rug Miter corners and stitch down Finishing a wall hanging: Start at upper corner, sew on binding around both sides and bottom of the rug Then with right side facing you, sew one edge of the binding as close as possible the knotted edge of the top of the rug, turn over so the back is facing you, then sew down making sure you will have enough room to insert a rod or piece of dowel through. Alternatively you can just bind the rug in the normal manner, then to hang, sew on large wooden curtain rings, slide over a wooden rod, add wooden finials to the ends of the rod and hang. As for cleaning, my best advice is take it to a reputable cleaner, tell them what it is made from (type of yarn, etc), and ask if they can clean it with no damage. If you want to try washing it at home, use a good rug upholstery cleaner diluted with water in a bucket, then clean the rug by working a foam with a sponge, then using the foam gently rub into the material. Then dry by gently rubbing with terry cloth (towel). I would test a piece of yarn to make sure it's colorfast, first.
- Q: My cat keeps scratching my carpet should i get her declawed oris there a way train her?
- My dad's cat ruined his carpet with this. Anyway I declawed my cat, he's happy, healthy, playful. All he has to defend himself against in our house is the mighty cat-nip mouse, he is not an out door cat, I won't let my cat out doors (live in the city, that would not be good). If you don't plan on letting the cat out, declawing might be an option.
- Q: I have burns in my landlords carpet from cigarettes. How can I remove the burns short of replacing the carpet?
- If the burn doesn't go all the way to the backing of the carpet you can trim the burnt yarns off with scissors. If they do or if it is a Berber carpet you can have an installer cut the area(s) out and seam a patch in, provided there is some leftover pieces stored somewhere. Installers usually have a minimum repair fee for small jobs starting around $50.
- Q: It's dark brown colour, the carpet is nearly brand new!!Any sensible ideas on how to get it out? Thanks.
- I dont think you can get it out unfortunately . hair dye is pretty much permanent.
- Q: Our dog peed on the bathroom rug while I was taking my brother somewhere and I have no idea what to do. Apparently it's made out of 100% polyester, and I can't put it in the washing machine because I have absolutely no clue how to use it.
- let me think
- Q: What's the fire rating of nylon carpet?
- Nylon carpet is a new carpet made of nylon as raw material and processed by mechanism. Nylon carpet has a good dust resistance, while giving carpet fullness, attractive appearance, so that the vision is often as new. The application of chemical dustproof coating technology makes carpet have higher anti fouling ability, and can make carpet surface brighter and cleaner.
- Q: I have a floor rug - it's about 5 ft * 3 - and I don't know how to clean it. I know I can like shake it out, but can I use carpet cleaner on it? Thanks and I apologize for the lame question. :)
- If you can't afford to get it professionally clean at this time, then take a scrub brush with full britzels, and a bucket of hot soapy water with a hint of bleach( Only if its a very light color rug) and scrub. If you have a Multi color rug, then buy some Resolve carpet cleaner(the foam bottle).
