- Q: Okay, I have been wanting to turn my garage into a dance studio for a while. I have checked in to marley flooring and it is so expensive. I don't want to get the 'home studio kit' and don't want wood flooring. So where can I find cheap marley flooring? Thanks :)
- The best way to prevent against injury from repetitive motions is to choose a studio with a professional floating floor. A floating floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high density foam. A floating floor absorbs the energy that returns the body during high impact activities. Without this absorption the energy would directly return to the body increasing fatigue and the potential for injury to bones and joints. A non-energy absorbent floor or flooring system laid over concrete cannot absorb this harmful energy, increasing the risk of injury, fatigue, and potential knee and back problems. What is under the dance floor is not the only factor to consider. The top layer of the dance floor is also important. A “Marley” floor which is a vinyl composite is accepted worldwide as the best surface layer for recreational to professional dance. Facilities such as the Royal Winnepeg-Ballet, The Royal Academy of Dance in London, England and Riverdance-the Touring Show, all use Marley floors. Marley floors offer controlled slip which decreases fatigue, and the risk of falls and injury. Few studios use professional Marley floors due to the high expense, and opt for common tile floors. Floating floors are also superior to “sprung” floors, which usually consist of a wood structure built on a regular floor. The floors in our studio are floating floors suspended on hundreds on high density foam blocks, with a professional Marley surface.
- Q: Hi, for the past several weeks I have been searching for glossy laminate floors. Its easy to find light color, high gloss, laminate flooring, but what I am interested in is a dark cherry or brazilian cherry. I already tried simplefloors and liquidators, homedepot, and lowes does anybody know where I can find some?
- Yep, sure do know where to find them. The color of what you are looking for is a pecan color. And can be found @ mardens in waterville Maine
- Q: I live on the second floor and I want replace the carpet with wood or tile. A friend told me if the floor is not leveled, it cost a lot to level it. My question is: Could second floor be unleveled? I thought only first floors could be unleveled.
- any floor can be unlevel but they do make a floor leveling compound any good hardware store or big box will carry it easy to use
- Q: I would like to create a dance studio in my house, and I was wondering what would be the best brand of sprung flooring. Also, what is the right type I should get; preferably something less expensive. I will be doing jazz, tap, acro, and contemporary technique. Thank you, I was just getting ideas.

- Q: We bought an older home (1965) with hardwood floors. They were good and solid when we moved in, been living here a year, and now they have started swagging in the center of the house. What causes this? I also noticed directly above where the floor swags the nails are popping through from the ceiling. So is it just a floor problem or is the entire house drooping, or settling?
- Swagging floors can be caused by improper spacing on floor joists. However, when you throw the nail popping from the ceiling this becomes a concern. I would get a structural engineer in there ASAP. There is a chance that your house is sinking, and it's better to find out now then after you try things to fix just the floor. The other concern is that I seriously doubt, if your house is sinking, this is a new problem. I would check with the county where you live to see if there is a history of any building permits to fix a problem such as this. Also talk to neighbors, they usually know what's up.
- Q: Explain sea-floor spreading.
- As the oceanic plates spread, mantle material moves up into the void and forms a solid mostly basaltic plate. It is theorized that heat from the liquid outer core powers convection currents in the solid but plastic mantle. These convection currents move in giant circles and push the plates above them. As the currents move upward, they also provide fresh magma to fill in the voids of the spreading plates.
- Q: I am looking for the strongest, fastest setting glue that will bond to both wood and concrete sub-floors. Thanks to all who answer.
- Laminate Floor Adhesive
- Q: Tare out old floor and toilet and and llay the tile how much
- One poster is right on the money. It does vary but I used to charge 30$ to R&R the stool, rip out varied as to what needed to be ripped out ( you don say) but that could range from 50/60 $ to 200. All depending on what was needed to be ripped out. This included removal and disposal. Prep ranged from 2$ to 3$ a s/f . This depended on if the floor needed a cement board or over slab. This was taxable stuff like thin set, grouts, cement board, Labor for floors was 3.50$ a s/f. So your looking at 6$ a s/f(+-) for all prep materials and labor. Plus rip out, Plus tile, a big variable. So you can see it varies.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: My condo is on the 3rd floor & I'm looking to replace the 3/4 white oak floor with 5/8 strand woven bamboo. After removing some of the oak I have found that the sub-floor is a concrete slab (I'm unsure of the thickness) covered by 1/8 of insulayment underlayment. On top of that are two(2) layers of 3/8 plywood screwed to eachother with 3/4 screws. The plywood is not attached to the 1/8 insulayment mat or the concrete slab in any way. So my first question is, is this normal floor construction? My seconod question has to do with the fact that there appears to be green mold between the plywood planks & behind the baseboard. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance. I appreciate any help you can offer.
- It is pretty common to use a plywood underlay in concrete muti-story residential. It acts to keep the floor covering warm and dry. a vapor barrier layer is also a must have. The green mold may not be mold at all, it can be a form on oxidation due to moisture inherent in concrete. If you tear out the plywood, you should replace it for your flooring to last. a strong bleach mix and mop will kill mold.
- Q: Before the exchange of space to see when people see the floor with a very nice wall, do not know how to do it. With the glue also rafting to destroy the more slander scraper Xi Shan is to do keel? Do you know? More
- To use the wooden keel base, when the floor with the keel to transfer the place to deal with the glass glue, the floor interface with a gas gun nail, if the wall area is large, then use a stainless steel bar or wood line to prevent deformation.
