- Q: We recently hired a contractor to remodel the entire bathroom due to water damage. We are getting close to tiling. There is a tub going in then the walls will be tiled for the shower. The contractor put green board in the entire bathroom first. Then he put water barrier paper over the green board in the areas that will be tiled. Then put hardy backer cement board over that. Is this a good way to do it? There is no cement board below a certain height because the tub will be there. I wasn't sure if this is a good way to do it?
- It's fine. I wouldn't have put the green board up where the cement board was going up, to save time an money. The green board is unnecessary there. But, it won't cause any problems.
- Q: Will Titebond II (weatherproof) work? I have a 1928 home and am trying to duplicate one of the original exterior window sills to go on a new window. I need to glue a couple of 5/4 pieces together to get the right thickness and I want it to last. The originals have redwood but it's old growth I believe and more stable than what I can find now in redwood or DF. Correct me if I'm wrong there. Plus I have only two attaching points to work with on either side of the window so I chose the fiber cement product for it's stability. Nothing on James Hardie's site says what can be used to glue it with though.ThanksThanksChris
- I would use gorilla glue which is 100 percent waterproof. or you could use polyurethane caulk which is very tough.
- Q: I want to put a cork bulletin board outside my store but it's a cement wall and I do not want to ruin the cement wall.
- Use construction adhesive such as PL400 or Liquid Nails. If you ever need to take the board down, use acetone to soften the glue and and use a putty knife to peel the glue off, any remaining glue can be wiped off with a rag and acetone.
- Q: I've removed the old cement boards and I've put new ones up on the shower walls. My tile will not go to the ceiling. I'm at the step where I need to apply thin-set and tape to all of the cement board seems. What do I do at the seem that transitions from cement board to sheet rock?
- Use Hardibacker and seal the seams with tape and thinset. Use thinset to set the tile using 1/4 spacers. I have used and recommend that you use a tile sealer to seal the slate prior to grouting and to use epoxy grout. The grout is more difficult to install but requires no sealers which need to be redone at least once a year in a shower and is well worth the initial time and effort. Be sure to read and follow the directions on the grout bags to ensure a uniform color and good grout set. MT C
- Q: How do the fluorocarbon paint on the external wall of the cement pressure plate?
- Substrate requirements: Cement pressure plate to be clean, dry, non-polluting.
- Q: I have a bare concrete/cement floor. After I installed Travertine on one section, it is almost 1/2 inch above the floor. Now, I want to continue to install the other section of the floor with laminate wood, but the floor is too low compared to the travertine floor. The question are: Can I put down a particle board over the concrete/cement floor, then a foam pad (moisture barrier), then laminate wood? Will the particle board absorb water then swell up?Or do I need to put down the moisture barrier foam first, then particle, then laminate wood?If I am not using the particle board, the laminate wood floor will be about 1/8 lower than the travertine floor. is it ok?
- Do NOT use particle board. There is no reason, as the laminate can be laid over the concrete with the proper padding. The particle board may swell and cause you issues down the road. Check the instructions on the flooring. Some require a plastic vapor barrier under them, while others only need the padding. 1/8 is not a big deal. The transition strip will bridge the difference. Be sure to check for peaks and valleys in the concrete, and fill in low spots. This will prevent the tongues on the planks from snapping off, leaving gaps in the floor. Allow the laminate to acclimate to the basement for a week or so before installing. Hope this helps. EDIT: You don't need anything under the flooring except vapor barrier or padding. They are designed to be able to be installed on a concrete base. Good luck.
- Q: This is when you are installing tiles over existing cement patio. Idk if it's a board, it seemed bendable. I saw it on HGtv And I can't remember what it's called
- It's called Hardyboard. Used it to tile an entryway; good stuff. If you are going over existing cement, you don't need it. Fill any cracks you might have, sweep it good, and then just trowel on the mastic and set your tiles.
- Q: I am seeking to set porcelain tile on top of the hardibacker board once it is secured. If I have to remove the Barmaill plywood, does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this with ease? I assume its glued as well as screwed down.
- Yes, you can use thinset and screws. That is how I would do it, but if the plywood is painted the only thing the thinset will be adhering to is the paint, but if you use a lot of screws it should be fine anyway. They make a special screw especially for cement board called Durock Screws manufactured by USG ( United States Gypsum) and probably by other manufacturers. They make them for wood and metal. You can buy them at a drywall supply store. Durock screws will hold better than regular drywall screws because they have a different type head.
- Q: Home decoration decoration in the cement pressure board hanging wire network doing what?
- This is mainly due to the surface of the cement pressure plate is too smooth, the use of barbed wire, you can increase the surface of the putty layer of the structural strength, to prevent wall cracking.
- Q: How does the cement pressure plate make a large brick? Specific steps and methods?
- With metal frame, paint brush outside the double-sided pressure plate fiber cement road off
