- Q: Water from a faulty air conditioner dripped onto a small area of the fitted carpet in our bedroom. The patch is no longer wet, perhaps slightly damp, but the smell is horrible. Any advice please. Changing the carpet is not an option.
- If you have decided to let the carpet dry in place you can get borax powder and work it into the pile of the carpet and then let it sit for a few hours. Then you can vacuum it up. Most of the smell should be gone. Any residue just helps fireproof the carpet. Lysol spray disinfectant will stop further mold formation. Febreze will help. A portable fan directed on the area will help a lot.
- Q: I spilled some dark red nail polish on my carpet. I removed some of it with polish remover, but am afraid to use more because it might damage the carpet. Any ideas on how to get it out.
- To remove nail polish from carpets, nail polish remover will work but you need to use caution because it can also remove dye from your carpet. On light coloured carpet it might not be noticeable but on darker colours. TEST FIRST!For carpet, always test any kind of chemical stain remover/cleaner in an out of the way place like a corner. Non-acetone polish remover is probably safer but no guarantees. Nail polish remover may be harmful to carpet or fabric.Do not use nail polish remover unless you read the label as it may be harmful to different types or carpet. You could also try using a lot of water, keeping the stain wet, then use about 15-20 squirts of hair spray and 3-5 splashes of rubbing alcohol. Scrub gently with a small scrub brush. Blot with paper towels. Repeat as necessary. Don't forget to keep pouring water during the process. You could try using shaving cream, Windex,or rubbing alcohol. I have heard some of these have worked. You could even try one tablespoon of ammonia and 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide depending on what colour your carpet is but make sure the room is well ventilated.
- Q: My carpet is threadbare and needs replacing. The kids are almost grown and pets live outside. Should I get a timber floor or go with carpet again. Which is easier to keep clean? I know that carpet is dirty but it also hides a lot. If you have a timber floor and then get rugs, aren't you getting the vaccuum out anyway? What do you think?
- Wood floor homes are noisier. Wood is easier to pick up tracked in dirt......you keep a dust mop handy and wet mop as necessary.......but with the dust mop the wet mopping is less. If you get throw or area rugs, yes, you have to vacuum and still maintain the wood (plus I have to watch out for the fring on the rugs..LOL ) Carpets look fine if you don't get something that shows dirt every other day. Still you do need to vacuum often and have it cleaned regularly. If you are selling, wood floors garner a higher return.......until they go out of fashion again....if they do. You mentioned the kids are almost gone......babies might return....so there you have grandchildren's tricycles, etc. Then your own health........as we get older we may need walking assistence and wheelchairs and walkers roll better on wood or very short pile carpeting. Throw rugs are not for people with walking problems........we trip over them, LOL!
- Q: I have a large rugs that I need to wash, I've had it for a few months and it is getting dirty due to the constant walking and owning a pet. th the safest and best wa t to wash a larg rugi It is a five by 8 foot rug.
- If you have large area rugs that require cleaning, follow product label instructions for best results. When large rugs are extremely dirty, worn, and you do not want to pay the high price of professional cleaning, you really have nothing left to lose. If they seem beyond help, give them another chance, and try the following easy ways to clean large area rugs. However, use commonsense, and try the following methods of cleaning at your discretion.
- Q: I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building. While attempting to do laundry earlier today, I didn't notice that my washer never shut off.. So it kept filling until I noticed my dining room/kitchen room were flooded. I immediately shut the water off. The neighbors below came to my door stating that the water had leaked into their apartment. The question im having is quot;Is it necessary to have the carpet replaced?quot; I have a two year old, and after doing some research I learned that mold could build up, which is something I dont want. Also when the maintenance people came they tracked my carpet with mud and who knows what else when trying to fix my washer. My apartment wont just give me new carpet so Im trying to get some advice in whether or not I should fight for new carpet.
- Hot water carpet cleaners have the ability to suck the water from the carpet and the pad, using a tool called a water claw. Often times the carpet pad is removed and air movers placed under and on top of the damp carpet to hasten the drying procedure. A commercial dehumidifier is also used to pull moisture from the air.
- Q: cleaning rugs/my wine/ pets?
- If you are going to keep the rugs, then get rid of the messy animals, if you keep the animals then get rid of the rugs. The two do not go very well together. Urine, vomit, feces, what's this world coming to, does everyone keep a zoo in the home?
- Q: The carpets in a house we placed an offer on are ick. Well they don't smell and most of the stains I think will clean out but they eventually need to be replaced. But due to other costs we have to address first we want to clean them. Is calling a professional steam cleaner the best way to go? Does steam cleaning really do a good job? We have shampood carpets before with horrible results.
- A professional advised me that most home cleaners do not remove the water out of the carpets well enough, therefore causing damage to the carpets. I have experienced this trying to do it myself. Depends on the carpet. They removed a lot of stains from my carpet, but some returned at a later time. If you are not in the position to replace, hiring a professional cleaner is your best bet.
- Q: I have been instructed by my HOA to quot;Carpet all floorsquot; as I laid a vinyl plank and it's against HOA rules. Could I get away with laying carpet tiles over this? I have pets and I believe carpet tiles will work better as I can replace a tile if it becomes damaged.
- They are pretty equal in the sound department. Your HOA is the best bet though, they may not define carpet as carpet tiles. Better to clarify with them first rather than spend money twice.
- Q: My walls are painted light gray, I am looking to replace my carpet. Which color matches well with light gray. I had a light blue carpet. Should i get the same color
- Take a color chip of the paint with you when you pick carpet. Some greys have undertones of yellow or brown that would work with carpets with those colors in them. Other grey paints work with blue/green or are neutral enough that any color carpet would work with them. We are redoing a bedroom currently inhabited by 2 young adult males. I wanted to lay down a ebony laminate floor (almost black) but was advised that it would show every spec of dirt, dust, cat hair, and scratches would be more noticeable. So I will probably go with Cherry, which is more in line with the flooring in the rest of our house. You can always change the color of your walls, which is cheaper than carpet.
- Q: Billiard room carpet selection
- The density of pile carpet: a hand to touch the carpet pile, the quality of its products is high, the carpet surface density is plump, elastic carpet such good resistance, abrasion resistance, trample, comfortable and durable. Don't take here to remind consumers to select method to select the plush carpet, seemingly fluffy 20molecules good-looking, but not easy to pile pile density, lodging deformation, this carpet is not anti stampede, performance carpet unique and easy to lose, not durable.
