Q: If not, then, in experiments, why must a wire always be straight?
Bending might increase the resistance very slightly by damaging the crystal structure, but the effect would be tiny. The only reason to want straight wires is neatness!
Q: The wire I need only comes bare and I would like to try enameling it myself with polyester-imide or polyester-nylon, so that it comes out like magnet wire. What all would I need?
Enameled wire is copper wire coated with a very thin insulating layer. It is used in applications such as winding electric motor coils, speakers and transformers. It is also used in the construction of electromagnets and inductors. The core material is copper, coated with a thin layer of a polyurethane, polyamide, polyester etc resin - the so-called enamel. For ease of manufacturing inductive components like transformers and inductors, most new enamelled wire has enamel that acts as a flux when burnt during soldering. This means that the electrical connections at the ends can be made without stripping off the insulation first. Older enamelled copper wire is normally not like this, and requires sandpapering or scraping to remove the insulation before soldering.
Q: The power supply is at the fixture in this case. I have 2 black wires (1 is the hot, I connected the hot to the other black to continue to the switch. The other wires are 2 white wires, 1 red wire and 2 grounds. At the switch there are multiple wires, including 3 black wires, 1 red, 3 white and 3 ground. One of the black wires I know goes on to other fixtures in another room. My issue now is I cannot get my main fixture I was trying to change the switch on to work and don't know which wire to connect to the switch. Right now I have removed the switch completely so the other rooms lights will work. Here is how I have it set up now. At the fixture black to black, white to white, red capped 2 grounds capped together. At the switch area: Black (hot from the fixture) to 2 blacks, all 3 whites connected, red is capped, and grounds are together. Which wires do I connect to the switch to control the fixture and still allow the other rooms lights to work. HELP!
If you are having trouble wiring a light switch you shouldn't be doing it get an electrician otherwise you could cause a fire.
Q: Two wires are placed parallel to each other. What would be the effect of passinga) upward current through both wiresb) an upward current throgh one wire and a downward current through the other.Explain.
a) When the currents through both the wires are in the same direction, the magnetic field due to each midway between them, by right-hand thumb rule, will be in opposite directions. This will result in attraction between the wires. b) When the currents through both the wires are in the opposite directions, the magnetic field due to each midway between them, by right-hand thumb rule, will be in the same direction. This will result in respulsion between the wires.
Q: I am replacing a regular light switch with a more fashionable looking design. When I took out the old light switch there was a red and a black wire attached. I am used to white and black. Which wire is considered the white wire when I am wiring this switch?
Switches don't require a neutral (white wire) One of these wires is hot..the other feeds the fixture. Attach to the terminals of the switch. More than likely if you look into the box you will see the white wires maretted together for continuity return
Q: Can you wire an extention cord to low voltage wireing? to like malabu lights
more detail please ? I don't know what malibu lights are, but low voltage lights can be fed from a mains adapter which is plugged into a mains extension socket. Its generally a bad idea to take mains leads outside though, unless it's just for a temporary piece of work in dry weather. If what you mean is: can mains cable be used for low voltage, then yes that's ok as long as it's just the cable it doesn't have a mains plug on it.
Q: Ok, I am having trouble installing a new car radio in my 97' Honda Civic Lx. It's just a basic pioneer cd player.. I matched all the colored wires up and still nothing. My brother had told me something about + - for example do i hook the green stripped wire with a flat green wire? Vice versa.. Help please.. Also If you know of a web site with diagrams?

Q: (a) A copper wire and an iron wire have the same length and same diameter and carry same current I. In which wire is the electric field greater?(b) Can a 1mm in diameter copper wire have the same resistance as a tungsten wire of the same length?[Use p(copper)=1.7x10^-8 ohm meters, p(iron)=1x10^-8 ohm meters, p(tungsten)=5.6x10^-8 ohm meters]
a Since copper has higher resistivity than iron, the voltage drop in the copper wire with the same dimensions as the iron wire is greater, meaning more Volts/meter in the copper wire so the E field is greater in the copper wire. b Resistance is proportional to length, resistivity, and inversely proportional to diameter. Increasing the diameter could compensate for a material with higher resistivity. So the answer is yes.
Q: I have this sony x plod headunit that i want to install.unfortunetely i do not know the wiring on it. i could find out as i go along which wires go to which speakers... but which two wires are the POWER wires?so i attached pictures but the basic layout is on the left side there are 4 sets of two wires (im assuming they pair up vertically)on the right side there is a long black wire with a metal hook on the end.
Please do not waste your time on that stereo. It has ridiculously poor sound reproduction. Sony makes some of THE WORST stereos on the market.
Q: i have 4 wires going to a ac unit #10 wires 2 wires for each cir. and i need to know how many amps can I run with 2 #10 copper for one side of the breaker
10 wire is rated for a maximum of 30 amps. This size wire can not be run in parallel to carry more current. I suggest that you have a local qualified professional electrician do the work since you seem unsure about what you are asking.
