Q:i am hooking up a wiring harness on a 2000 ford ranger and cant figure out the wires to hook up and what they are: you need to buy the harness for that particular truck, there's a plug already there for it, if you start hacking into wires you'll have more problems than you can believe. and I'm not going to explain it here, just trust me, there like $20 bucks and will save you a world of headaches.

Q:does it matter what gauge speaker wire to use when hooking up a powered subwoofer?: A Powered subwoofer does not use speaker wire - it usually uses a RCA cable. EDIT: Ok - some older subwoofers only have speaker inputs and speaker outputs. You run speaker wire from the Left/Right speaker outputs to the sub, it strips off the sounds it wants to produce, and it passes the other sounds onto the other speakers. I suggest some good oxygen free 12 ga wire. There is a roll off effect with higher frequency sounds and long runs of speaker wire. It usually does not matter for a Home Theater system, but you can hear it with a high-end music system. Thicker wire reduces the effect. Since with a sub you would be running wires to the sub, then back to the L/R speakers, you could be using 15-30 ft of wire. Get a spool of good 12 ga from a speaker building site or get some of the Carol 12 speaker wire from Home Depot.

Q:I'm trying to use a stereo wire instead of a mono wire for an output from a circuit I've built. The problem is, the gold wire has been cut too short, and I'd rather not strip it back any further since I don't have a lot of cord to work with. Since there are three wires (red, white, gold - ground) can I use either the red or the white as output, and the remaining color for ground, or do I have to use the gold cable for the ground and let the remaining wire dangle (taped)?Thanks: The gold wire is actually copper. It is braided and surrounds the red and white wires. It not only forms the common return for both the other wires, it is also a screen which eliminates unwanted pick up. The right channel signal appears between the red wire and the sceeen and the left channel signal appears between the white wire and the screen - which is usually grounded. If you use the red and white wires on their own you will probably get pick up on them. The screen really is necessary. If you have access to the screen at only one end (it sounds as if you might) then connecting the screen to whichever wire you choose to be grounded might be sufficient.

Wireless (2.4 GHz), has the Sony playstation symbol on it, vibrations, same look, reasonably priced for the most durable wireless controller available. Best buy offers this controller for $25.99, only 2 dollars more than Sony brand. I own 2 of them, and no problems to report. Takes 3 AAA batteries.

Q:I am trying to test a engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT), and in one of the tests it states quot;connect the terminals of the electrical connector with a jumper wirequot;. Where can I find a jumper wire? Does it has to be an specific gauge or any jumper wire? please helpd: Jumper wire is just any piece of wire that allows you to connect two other wires/terminals whatever. You could probably even use a paperclip if it will fit, just have to be careful when jumpering that you don't let the bare material short to ground.

Q:Cant find were to tap the wiring for the puddle lights. Can some one please help!: One wire goes to the frame, the other to a 2 wire toggle switch (if you're using a light up switch it will have 3 wires) inside the cab, then connect the toggle switch to your positive battery terminal (or to the live wire going into your steering column if you want them to be switched on when the key is turned on)

Q:i just bought a 97 jeep wrangler..the soundbar isnquot;t hooked up. I pulled the carpet back and found the following: a red wire connecting the soundbar to under the dash (probably power), and a black wire connecting the soundbar to metal. there are 4 small wires unattached to anything coming from the soundbar, and a red and white sound wire coming from under the dash (actually has plugs like on a tv surround system), and a ground wire all unattached. how can i hook this mess up to make the soundbar work. i do have sound coming from the front dash speakers. thanks for help.: Well the rca connections are either an input for an auxiliary device or an output for an amp. The ground wire should be grounded as long as it is a ground wire, a lot of radios are case ground and will work with out the wire grounded but may experience interference. As far as the wires coming from the sound bar, there is no need to replace the entire wire. Usually radios have four speaker outputs, front left, front right, rear left, rear right. Each pair is color coded and one of the two wires has a stripe on it. Once you determine which wires from the sound bar are pairs you can hook them up to the back of the radio, positive and negative wont make a big difference unless its a specific frequency range. You may notice a slight variation in sound if you turn the volume up loud. In that case just reverse the wires. You'll also want to find out which pair of wires from the radio is for which speaker location and hook them up correctly. You don't need to be worried about getting shocked from the speaker wires so you can test the different outputs with the radio on but you must be careful not to touch the wires from the radio together or you can short out the radio. As far as the red wire, it should be the power wire for the light and the black is ground. Make sure any wires you connect are firmly connected and covered to prevent shorting out. Shrink tube is quite cheap.

Q:Ok, I am having trouble installing a new car radio in my 97' Honda Civic Lx. It's just a basic pioneer cd player.. I matched all the colored wires up and still nothing. My brother had told me something about + - for example do i hook the green stripped wire with a flat green wire? Vice versa.. Help please.. Also If you know of a web site with diagrams?: they make wiring harness adapters where all you do is match the colors and plug them in. yes u do have to match the wires with stripes (i.e. green with stripe to green with stripe) but if you have already done this you may have blown the channels if you have crossed the wrong wires
