Q: The wire is size 10AWG and will be to install a small fluorescent light in a closet. It is coming off of a typical electric outlet. I know someone who is witing it with commercial wire and I think it may be dangerous. Is it?
If wired properly, it would be much less dangerous than if wired with 16 or 18 gauge wire. The bigger the diameter of the wire, the more less the wire heats up and the less the chance of the wire overheating.
Q: I have two DVC subs and I know how to wire them down to 1 ohm with the wires coming out of one outlet on the box but I don't know how to wire them down to 1 ohm with wires coming out of both sides of the box. Anyone have a wiring diagram for this?
For okorder /... On the inside of the enclosure, connect both positives and both negatives to the enclosure inside terminal. That makes each side of the enclosure 2 ohms. Mount and screw in the subs. Now, on the outside: 1) Observing polarity, run short jumpers between the terminals (positive to positive, negative to negative) and then connect ONE set of terminals to the amp (again observing polarity) (positive to positive, negative to negative. 2) Run separate wires from each set of terminals to the amp, observing polarity. That makes the final impedance to the amp 1 ohm.
Q: I know that there are wired routers, and wireless routers. Do wired routers do the same thing as wireless routers, without wireless capabilities?
You are correct. Generally these days your typical router will have one input port (to the Internet) and four output ports, one or more of which can be connected to other computers -- while also having wireless capability. Wiring directly to the router is useful for desktops, servers, and other hardware that may not have wireless capability, while also eliminating any interference that could be associated with wireless routing, such as radio interference or downtime.
Q: we need to know how an electrical wire is measured. When you say for example a stranded tw wire 2mm2 does it mean 2mm square or 2 square mm meaning the area of the wire? does the measurement or size indicated in the insulation includes the insulation itself when measuring the wire? how about a stranded wire? basically the question is please explain the size of thw or tw wire stranded or solid wire indicated on the insulation. And how it is measured. does the insulation included in the measurement or just the copper wire inside that is measured.
strandings of the wires equal a gauge. ex: 7strands of 30gauge wire equals 22 gauge. gauge is a size of either a solid wire or smaller stranded wires to equal that size
Q: have 0 gauge power wire, but don't have a ground wire! can I use the power wire as a ground wire if I cut a piece off?
Sure, wire is wire. Sometimes you can have noise problems when the grounding wire is too small, but you're talking about 0 gauge so definitely not an issue! This is all provided that you have a way to connect a 0 gauge wire to the equipment you're talking about. Most won't accept that large of grounding wire because it's overboard on size.
Q: The t-stat comes with EIT module. that wires to the t-stat and the furnace. I'm having trouble with the module to furnace wiring.
from the thermostat you match 1,2,3 wires to the module, from the module to the furnace. - R to R (this is your 24V hot) W to W (furnace 24V input G to G (fan for cooling 24V input) Y to Y (cooling 24V input), there should also be another wire that connects with this that goes to the condensing unit C to C ( Common - must have this connected for IAQ to work) as with the Y, there should be another wire to connect to this that goes to the condensing unit. - maybe W2 to W2 if you have a 2 stage furnace, you'll know if you have a 2 stage furnace because the W2 connection on the furnace will be present. - maybe Y2, if you have 2-stage cooling. if you have a humidifier connect both wires from the humidifier selinoid valve to each of the HUM terminals.
Q: (a) A copper wire and an iron wire have the same length and same diameter and carry same current I. In which wire is the electric field greater?(b) Can a 1mm in diameter copper wire have the same resistance as a tungsten wire of the same length?[Use p(copper)=1.7x10^-8 ohm meters, p(iron)=1x10^-8 ohm meters, p(tungsten)=5.6x10^-8 ohm meters]
a) for them to carry the same current (with equal lengths and diameters) the iron wire must have a higher voltage between the ends. Iron has higher resistance than copper. Because the iron wire has a higher voltage across an equal distance, it has a greater electric field. b) yes, but the tungsten wire must have a larger diameter than the copper.
Q: chicken wire mesh
Perhaps to make a chicken Coop
Q: If I have wired my 20 amp kitchen receptacles with 12/2 wire which only has a red, black, and ground wire, do I use the red wire for a neutral and the black as a hot?
You must not use 20 Amps for a regular wall plug, it will burn! there is no such thing as 20 A duplex plug, they only come in simplex! If the cable has only a black and red wire it is usually for 220V applications! Sometimes you will find a 3 conductor cable in a kitchen plug, black, red and white wire. This is for a dual circuit outlet. The top plug has a different circuit breaker than the lower plug. As the others have answered, check your local code! Check with your insurance company, because they may effectively void the coverage! It is best to get help from someone qualified.
Q: so im doing a custom buggy and i need so different colored wire im looking for a place to get lots of different colored wire for cheap
id try a hardware store or radio shack.
