- manual four wheel drive u have to be stopped and sometimes u even have to lock in your front wheels, shift on the fly u can usually be moving at a lower speed, not completley stopped and it engages automatically. P.S. the high and low ranges are just different speed 4 wheel drives, low range just barely will go, and high range u can get a little faster
