- Q: If i were to buy rims and wheels for a 1995 lexus sc400 (RWD) and wanted to switch the rims and wheels onto a FWD car, could i? the wheels are offset (rear ones are wider), so could i just switch the rear wheels with the front wheels when i put thm on the fwd car? - If you put wider wheel, thus wider tires on the rear wheels of a FWD, you are going to get more understeer than usual. If you look at people who race FWD in road courses, they put wider wheels and tires in front to reduce understeer. Understeer is not fun. The front of car will slide whenever you throw your car into a corner. And you need to reduce speed or adjust you steering to correct this. This is something that most race car drivers want to eliminate, but car manufacturer set up a little understeer for saftety reason to warn drivers that the car is at its cornering limit. So larger wheels and tires in rear of a FWD is not a very good idea.

- I won a 1994 Dodge Dakota pick-up with rear wheel anti-lock brakes. DRUM brakes. The sensor for it is located in the differential. Any brake, rear or drum, can have anti-lock brakes. Find the VIN number from the front of the dash on the drivers side, (looking in from the outside,) and call the dealer. They will be able to tell you what day, month, options, and trim package that car had. Also look at the proportioning valve and see if the servo is connected to it and there are 4 lines coming out of it. Your anti-lock computer might say something about 4 wheel anti-lock brakes on it, too. Check the owners manual, too, it might say. Don't let your friend BS you into thinking only disk brakes can have anti-lock brakes.

- It matters. The weights are to keep the wheel balanced. If the wheel is out of balance, the heavier part will tend to be thrown outwards by centrifugal force as the car drives, making the wheel bounce, and often (but not always) making the steering wheel vibrate. It reduced your traction (the wheel may even bounce off the road in extreme cases), and causes premature wear on your steering, suspension and wheel bearings. The wheel will also tend to skip under heavy braking, resulting in much longer stopping distances. Your tyre will also wear unevenly, and much faster. And it's not expensive to fix - any garage or tyre place can do it quickly and cheaply.
