I use 52-54mm it's not that big of a deal really if you use smaller wheels like a 51-53mm and have low trucks you'll probably need a riser pad to stop from wheel bite, which is when the wheel hits the deck and stops. I recomend an 1/8 inch riser anyways it helps the board from flexing around the truck bolts and making hairline cracks which is why a lot of skateboards brake. The best size of wheel is up to you as a beginner i'd start off with 53 or 54mm and good bearings like bones reds.
