Product Description
Alumina is one of the most cost effective and widely used material in the family of engineering ceramics. The raw materials from which this high performance technical grade ceramic is made are readily available and reasonably priced, resulting in good value for the cost in fabricated alumina shapes.

With an excellent combination of properties and an attractive price, it is no surprise that fine grain technical grade alumina has a very wide range of applications.

Q:I have a double wide that is about 30 yrs old it has carpet now but I would like to put something else down. I was thinking about ceramic tile but some say I can and some say it will crack cause it‘s a mobile home. Does anyone out there know. It will be used in a living room, dinning room and kitchen. And if u know do u know someone who can do this THANKS
Typically, adding ceramic tile to a mobile home is a bad idea, but here are some tips that can help it last. 1. Be sure that the sub-floor is still in good shape. After removing the carpeting, check for the durability and sturdiness of the subflooring. If the flooring gives easily (meaning it sags even slightly when you stand or jump lightly on) you will need to reinforce it. 2. Reinforce the subfloor anyway. You can improve your long term results by laying at least 3/4 inch heavy plywood on the floor. You'll want to fasten this very securely with screws to the original subfloor. In areas that are prone to leaking water (i.e. the kitchen) you may wish to use treated plywood to keep the water from rotting the subfloor, should you ever spring a leak. 3. Don't move the mobile home once you've installed the tile. Just because of the nature of mobile homes, they do tend to change shape quite a bit while moving. Because of this, you'll want to avoid moving the home - or you'll probably suffer a few broken tiles, and lots of grout repair. 4. Sturdy the floor by adding cribbing and/or cement blocks underneath the home. Adding cribbing to support the home in areas where the floor tends to give will help maintain the structural integrity of the floor, which in turn will prevent the grout from breaking apart prematurely. 5. Hire a contractor that specalizes in mobile home renovation. They wouldn't be in business if their work fails after a short time. Be sure to check their references and the Better Business Bureau! Good luck!
Q:I‘m looking for artistic decals for ceramics/kilnwork.
We sell decals to put it on any flat or curved surface. www.creativesilhouettes.ca/ Check us out.
Q:through yahoo answers, i found out that there are no black metals in existence. even a black tungsten or titanium ring will eventually fade and tarnish. i‘ve already bought him a steel band with a blackened finish, but that‘s exactly what it turned out to be.just a finish. it‘s already beginning to fade!! (yeah, we‘re already wearing our bands! we just couldn‘t wait!!) i‘m hoping, maybe, if i buy a black ceramic wedding band with a shiny finish.it will stay that way!! we‘re getting married april 4th and hoping to give my wonderful, soon to be husband, the wedding band he deserves! thanks so much for your answers!!soon to be ricks wife, lt;3 shonda : )
Yes, the ceramic itself is black. It is not a coating so it will stay black. The problem comes with if it will stay shiny. And yes, you're fine there too. Ceramics are quite tough and are not easy to scratch.
Q:Because i‘m having brace this sembreakthank you very much. .),tc to all
Ceramic braces are less conspicuous and they do the equivalent to the metal braces, the cost is usually a little bit more, but those that want them usually count the cost as worth it. Both look and work just fine.
Q:Can the ceramic bowl be put in the microwave oven? Two
Color glaze ceramic products, in the course of normal use will produce mild pollution of food, in principle can not contact the food color ceramic products, ceramic color where contact with food for the food did not affect. Recommend the use of white color and no {white} ceramic
Q:Just a basic ceramics class (no advance stuff). I am thinking about taking this course over my next semester for college. I never took this class, not even in high school. So what do I expect here, is there a lot of book work?
usually not. There is usually not a lot of book work (often none) but a lot of practical work. Like you have book work outside your class time to do for your class you will have to come into the studio outside your class time to work on your ceramics skills. The more work you do, the better you will get. Just like everything. Impossible to tell whether you will enjoy it. Some people love it others don't, just like every other subject. If you mind getting dirty and if you are impatient and can't be bothered with acquiring manual skills odds are it's not for you. If you like creativity and working with your hands and don't mind getting clay all over it may be just the thing for you.
Q:1) I am in 8th grade and am forecasting for highschool, and am looking at the electives and one of them is Ceramics 1. In the description it says Handbuilding techniques will include pinch, coil and slab methods. What does this mean? Also, I‘m not really good at art, but I want to get good. I‘m not looking to go into a career in art, but I think it looks like fun. 2) Is this class hard? 3) The Forecasting sheet is due tomorrow
If you take a ball of clay, push a thumb into it and then pinch around to thin it and form it - that is a pinch pot. If you roll lumps of clay out into ropes or snakes or coils, you can put them down round and round the edges and build up the walls of a pot, blending the coils together. If you use a roller to make flat slabs of clay of uniform thickness and cut shapes out with a knife, you can put the shapes or slabs together into vessels or sculptures by joining the edges in slab construction. No its not hard.
Q:I was thinking about painting plates as a birthday party activity (but at home, not at a pottery studio like Color Me Mine.) I‘ve been looking at ceramic bisque online, but I was wondering if you could just paint on a white ceramic dinner plate or is ceramic bisque different than a finished plate. Also, do the plates need to be fired to be food safe or is there another way to do it? I read something about using underglaze and a clear overglaze on top of it, but does that still need to be fired or does the overglaze protect you from the underglaze? If it‘s too much trouble, maybe we‘ll just paint something that isn‘t used for food, but I still want to make sure it‘s non-toxic. Also, any ideas of the cost of firing ceramics? Where is the best place to do this?
First off you can not paint on finished plates and use them for food. The only way you can do this is on bisque, preferably stone ware. The best place to contact is Placid Ceramics. They are in Washington Pa. Phone number (724) 225 6778. If they can not provide you with bisque stone ware I am sure they will know where. When you buy green ware from a ceramic shop (not been fired yet) you pay for the slip and 10% of the cost of the mold new. i.e. 1 Qt of slip is lets say $1, the mold cost $50 new, your piece will cost you $6. When it is fired the first time it is another 10% of the mold. If you want it food safe you must use under glaze paint. This is paint designed to be fired to set it to the piece. Once the paint is set it must be over glazed, you must use a lead free glaze. (food safe). remember, each time you fire it, it is another10%. For your party you can have the bisque plates and the under glaze paint ready. Once the paint is dry it needs fired again. The food safe glaze can now be applied, and once dried fired for the last time. Your plates are now food safe.
Q:Should I use ceramic tile in a basement appartment?
You could, but why would you want to spend all that money on tiles. If you dont have a water problem in the basement, there are 2 things you can use that are inexpensive to use down there.first, look into a laminate floor. Very durable and inexpensive, or second, an epoxy floor that gets painted on.
Q:What do you mean by a ceramic cup in a fish bowl?
The ceramic cup of the fish pot is a ceramic ring.Ceramic ring is a kind of common biochemical filtration material. Because ceramic rings are full of tiny pores, it is suitable for nitrobacteria to attach and propagate. A large number of nitrifying bacteria on the ceramic ring can convert the toxic ammonia nitrogen produced by organic matter (residual bait, excrement) into basic non-toxic nitrate, thus playing a role in purifying water quality. Ceramic rings are usually used in the filter.
