Q:I bought a new house is the top floor, not submitted to find the top (rooftop) on the cracks, I would like to ask such a house qualified? Will it be leaking later?
This is not seen above the cement brick ah, in addition, if there is no impact on the protective layer cracks, many of which are to be slit, and more information, better advice, free waterproof concrete waterproof repair professional technical advice , Exempt from today's repair, tomorrow leak; yearly repair, year-old trouble
Q:I want to have an illusion in my room that looks like a car falling thorught the roof. You would look up and just see, maybe the front corner of the car. It is proably hard to think of this but this is something I really want to do but have no place to look for help. Please let me know if you have any sugestions.- Amber K
I am certain that you have thought about the ceiling height in your room (can I guess 8'), and how much lower the car would need to be to create the illusion. I'm also certain that you have considered how much dead weight the ceiling has been engineered to carry. Perhaps you will need to consider a plastic or fiberglass replica.
Q:which of the following insulating materials that are used in roofs ( foil, fibreglass batts, seaweed) work by trapping a layer of air in them??
you should make sure to put baffles in against the roof over the eves before you fill it in you do need to get ventilation into the attic or you will cause more damage
Q:We have removed our rough sawn cedar from our cathedral ceiling in our 80's home. We found fiberglass insulation and 2x6 joists (the roof is directly above). The first electrician came out before we removed the ceiling and assumed there was no insulation and said we needed to get spray insulation because of the condensation can lights can cause. The other electrician we called out came after we removed the ceiling and did not say anything about condensation. Neither said anything about ice dams. I am seeing all this pretty scary stuff when doing my research, and am thinking we shouldn't put in recessed lighting now! We live in Wyoming where the climate can be pretty cold, but is usually very dry.So, if we use LED lamps and IC airtight housings, will the heat transfer really be bad enough to cause condensation and/or ice dams? Would it help to put some foam board between the shallow housings and the roofing substrate (if it fits)? We are only planning on putting up 6 6" lights in a 10x20 room...
with that type of light they need to have free air around them ,you dont have enough space, nor would you roof be insulated, you may wish to rethink your lighting , the joys of remolding
Q:If you were a single woman with no man around, how would you fix a hole in the ceiling from water damage? And the roof? On a budget. Is this possible for a small woman to do this job by herself? Can someone give me step by step instructions? Photo of the damage attatched.
I would repair it. It is not terribly difficult or costly - but your circumstance is complicated by the texture on the ceiling. You would need to purchase some lightweight joint compound, some fiberglass reinforcing mesh or tape, a couple of inexpensive plastic spackling knives (and you will need either a step-ladder or some other stable platform to work from. You will clean out the damaged area and remove all loose materials. Then use a knife to spread some joint compound in the hole, not too much but enough to cover everything with a thin coat. Spread the reinforcing material over this and add a small amount more compound. Smooth this as best you can with a knife. Allow to cure overnight. Repeat with thin coats of compound only until smooth. Sand lightly to remove tool marks. Now you have as smooth area in a textured area. There are texture-sprays-in-a-can that you can try, or you can just leave it smooth, Paint. Done. It takes some time, and you will learn as you go - so don't expect perfection right away. Good luck with it.

Q:How to decorate the living room
Color and light - the layout of color and lighting is the main means of reflecting the artistic aesthetic and personality of the master. Color, should be the overall tone to be unified, do not use too much color, or will make the whole space is very messy. Note that the color decoration with soft decoration, which will produce your unexpected effect. Daytime living room to natural light-based, as far as possible to the natural light into the room; evening to artificial lighting, including decorative chandelier lighting, ceiling lamps, embedded lights and walls, such as mixed lighting, but to ensure that the room is bright Is still the first choice of lamps and lanterns, and then through the light to increase the level of space, contrast atmosphere.
Q:hey. i am moving my room into another room in my house. The only problem with this room is that the ceiling is quite old and one part of it fell off. I need to fix this part that fell off. I think the whole ceiling is plaster i guess but underneath the plaster are these really skinny wood boards with something that looks like cement between them. Can i just do the standard drywall fix with a new drywall piece and some mesh and can i nail the drywall into these boards? I also need to peel ugly wallpaper off too to paint it. If i could just fix this part of the ceiling, things would be great. Oh, the whole is like 3 feet by 2 ft so how much would the drywall be to fix it. i cant get it done by a proffessional because i have no money and my mom will by me the drywall. A lot of help appreciated. thanks.
The thin boards will probably break if nailed into, try using a nail to find the studs in the ceiling. Then make the hole into a square.Drywall isnt very expensive. It comes in a few different thicknesses though 1/4,1/2, 3/4. Measure the depth from the hole to the ceiling to see what thickness you need. Then you can cut the new drywall and screw or nail to studs. When cutting drywall use a razor on the white side to score the lines needed to cut, then you can break it and cut the paper on other side, real easy. If the hole depth is less than 1/4 then you may be able to use drywall compound to cover the area. Just use a putty knife to spread it on and sand it after it dries to make it smooth.
Q:This is an old house and has wood and some type of dry cement-type material in between the wood slats. I stepped on the ceiling while doing an insulation job in the attic. The wood is fine but the dryed material cracked and separated from the wood slats in the bathroom. The damages area is around 18 inches by 12 inches, and some cracks in other areas of the ceiling. I do not want to sheetrock the whole bathroom if i can avaoid it (too many projects in this ol house). thanks!
I would say go up to the attic where you made the initial damage. Where the damage was made, go to the opposite side of the wood, and use a box cutter to cut through, should cut enough to see it in the bathroom. Do this on each side of the wood beam, opposite side of the damage. Then go down to the restroom, finish cutting through, ( make sure no wires, pipes, etc are not in way) Cut along beams, then across to other beam, making a square or rectangle. Try not to break up the cut out piece. Keep it and get the exact measurement off another sheet rock slab. Cut the new sheetrock and secure it to the wood beams. Should be exact fit, don't worry if not perfect. From there, get some joint compound and fill it in nicely. Sand down after dry if needed...If not same thickness just add more compound to match it up.
Q:My neighbor told me that there is no attic space in the main bedroom. It is a 2 story house, but the master bedroom is the ONLY room that is significantly hotter than the other 2 rooms. Is it possible to put some sort of insulation over the existing ceiling and then drywall over it? Or....??????
Well, if you are willing to re-drywall anyway, why not tear down your existing ceiling and insulate it with fiberglass batts or blown cellulose? Then, you won't have two ceilings. When I moved into my house, I always hated how people just layered things like floors and just put the new over the old. Plus, I don't know how much ceiling space you have, but you would lose about 4 inches from redrywalling a second ceiling.
