Q:What is good material for external wall insulation
Of course, is the use of fireproof materials rock wool board better
Q:I'm afraid that joint compound might not adhere well to plywood.
It will stick just fine. I have painted wood paneling this way too...by taping all the seams just like you would dry wall, and filling the grooves as well. Once it is sanded and painted it looks just like drywall.
Q:There are a lot of wires and tubing between the joists and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to work the insulation around them or just lay the stuff over it. Seems like if there was a problem with the water or electricity, finding the wires and such would become a problem with them tucked under the insulation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
one thing you didnt mention is why you want to insulate a basement ceiling. i can understand if its for sound abaitment but insulating a basement ceiling isnt really necessary (unless ofcourse its required by local code). in answer to your question, you tuck the insulation around wires and piple by pulling the insulation apart. compressing the insulation against wires and pipes compromises its effectiveness. heres what i would do. instead of fiber glass insulation use what is called sound board (it has thermal qualitys as well) and then sheet rock over that. sound board (it used to be call celetex back in the day) is available at home depot and most lumber yards.
Q:Will the attic insulation how to do?
Insulation layer plus ceiling, it should not be more than one hundred yuan last year, may rise a little this year, it depends on your price requirements, the general is below the plaster ceiling, above the bubble, its thickness determines the Its insulation performance, so when talking about the time to pay attention
Q:Fiberglass sound-absorbing ceilings
Non-combustible performance: A-level, the national authority of the Cl test, measured (GB9624-1997)
Q:Details: The house is a 3 story house. When showering on the 2nd or 3rd floor, the living room ceiling leaked. Not just 1-2 drops but we had to get a bucket and you can see the staining on the ceiling. This was 4-5 years ago and we stopped using these showers. No further leaking when NOT using the showers. The contractor opened the ceiling today near the staining and turned on the showers. He said that there was no leaking. What happened? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Could you see any pipes in he ceiling, drain pipes or hot and cold water pipes? I doubt if the pipes fixed them selves and if you start using these showers again, it will start leaking again. Most likely the pipe or pipes have calcium deposit that have temporarily sealed the leak. I would leave the ceiling open for a week and use those showers every day to see if they start leaking again. Good luck
Q:i removed what i think are fiberglass ceiling tiles cause they had yellow long hairs on them. but i am worried that they might of been asbestos because my lungs feel bad. people tell me to not worry because it was only this one time and only people exposed all the time at there jobs need to worry, but i am still worried.
Stop worrying, what you removed was Fiberglass not asbestos. As for your lungs, it's all in your head. Now if you breath fiberglass all day it can harm you. But one tile will hardly do you any harm.
Q:Hello, our house has a big crack in the ceiling running from on wall to the other ( only about 3 feet cause its a entrance way) and I was wondering if there is anyway to fix it properly? We will be selling the home in a year and don't want it to scare anyone off BUT also don't want to just paint over it ( may get sued for concealing a problem). Any ideas or thoughts? Are we screwed and may have to leave it and the house won't sell as fast?:(
First clean the crack out as deep as you can ,and about one half inch or more if needed deep. Then fill with dry wall compound level with old plaster. Let this dry a day.
Q:This is an old house and has wood and some type of dry cement-type material in between the wood slats. I stepped on the ceiling while doing an insulation job in the attic. The wood is fine but the dryed material cracked and separated from the wood slats in the bathroom. The damages area is around 18 inches by 12 inches, and some cracks in other areas of the ceiling. I do not want to sheetrock the whole bathroom if i can avaoid it (too many projects in this ol house). thanks!
Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers.
Q:My neighbor told me that there is no attic space in the main bedroom. It is a 2 story house, but the master bedroom is the ONLY room that is significantly hotter than the other 2 rooms. Is it possible to put some sort of insulation over the existing ceiling and then drywall over it? Or....??????
Well, if you are willing to re-drywall anyway, why not tear down your existing ceiling and insulate it with fiberglass batts or blown cellulose? Then, you won't have two ceilings. When I moved into my house, I always hated how people just layered things like floors and just put the new over the old. Plus, I don't know how much ceiling space you have, but you would lose about 4 inches from redrywalling a second ceiling.
