Even for professional use you do not see speakers handling more than 500 watts. The cost of such speakers that can handle large amount of power are very high, beside that the power amplifier to handle them are also high. Most of the time you will see stacks of speakers to cover large area, instead of having one speaker. Speakers with high diceble rating like 95db spl will require less power than that of a speaker rated at 89db. If you are close to the speaker you would ruin your hearing. It is not all about how much wattage you have for a speaker, it is about how those speaker will produce clean sound.

Q:I have a relatively small speaker that has a treble and a bass, the treble speaker works but the bass does not is there a way for me to fix this? Should I get new speakers?: I would say yes factory radios have about 5-10watts RMS per speaker and aftermarket speakers usually need about 25-50watts RMS depending on the speaker so the factory radio does not have enough RMS wattage to properly power the speakers and that makes the radio's internal amp clip Clipping occurs when an amplifier is asked to deliver more current to a speaker than the amp is capable of doing. When an amplifier clips, it literally cuts off the tops and bottoms of the musical waveforms that it's trying to reproduce, thus the term. This introduces a huge amount of distortion into the output signal. Clipping can be heard as a crunching sound on musical peaks. that causes distorted sound which will damage your speakers so when you buy your new speakers don't get ones that require too much wattage because you will have the same problem and if they cant handle the wattage from the radio you will fry the voice coils too

Without that, I cannot help you, as many companies use grossly inflated rating for the wattage that their speakers can take. So, it's quite possible that what you have are really 50 or 60 watt max speakers.

Example: My 1998 Chevy Lumina has a stock speakers size of 5.25 so when i upgraded speakers, i got a 5.25 Rockford Fosgate component system. If, however, you are just adding speakers and not replacing them. 6.5 speakers will give you a bigger bass, and a 5.25 or 5.5 speaker will give you more of your mid-range higher notes.
