Q:Can I just use a black pad on my buffer to remove old crappy wax on floors, or do you HAVE to use a stripping solution...in other words, can you use the black pad on a dry floor?? Thanks!
use the stripping chemical. It breaks down the wax. put the solution down and let it work and use your black pad. make sure you rinse the floor very well.
Q:What are the pros and cons of painting my concrete basement floor. Will it harm the floor? We never have any water problems. I just want a clean sweepable surface.
Pros: okorder if you are located near Edmonton.
Q:I have laminate flooring in my house, and I am having a hard time finding the right cleaner for the floor, I mop it one day and then I see spots all over it! Ughhh.
you can try windex, rain x or soapy water mixed with cold water. My husband used to clean floors for a living and he thinks one of these three would work.Test it on a small spot on the floor first and let it dry and see what it does.Or you can go to a floor store and ask what they recommend. They know the best products.
Q:I have cold concrete floors that we had to remove the carpet & padding from because of water damage. Thinking of replacing with Cork Flooring. Can any one give me feedback as to how you clean it, durability to wear and tear of two large dogs (toe nails) and insulation specs? Thanks, Shany
If you are using it in a room that is prone to water damage, it is not a good idea. If the concrete slab is in the basement it is also not a good idea. Concrete is porous, water from the ground seeps in through capillary action. You should not use cork, bamboo, hardwood or wooden floors over humid slabs, in humid environments or rooms that are prone to water damage. They are organic materials, they soak in water and favor mold growth. They are not very different from carpet. I recommend you pick inorganic and waterproof flooring options, if you don't want to be replacing it several times over the years.
Q:how much it cost to cork floor 900 square feet. I mean at least and at most, where do you buy it from? who installs it? how much for installation?how long will it last?thanks.
Cork okorder Quality cork will last as long as you want it to. 50 to 150 years if you want it to and give proper maintenance. Care is about the same as a hardwood floor. For 900 sf your price will be $3600 to $9000, depending on your selection. installation will be about $3500 + - . Be sure you get a very professional installer, cork needs to have someone who knows how.
Q:I'm renting a home and my chairs in the kitchen scratch the floors and some deep scratches how can I remove those scratches from a pergo floor installed in 2005
Since it glued to the floor as you say,it has to be a wood flooring. Minor scratches can be touched up with a stain or a touch up pencil. You may have to do some urethane but thats hard to do in small spot and have to look good. Pergo is more into the floating floor ( laminates) line of flooring. If it is a laminate, then there is nothing that can be done to hide scratches. Chair leg protectors and theres several types are good or a area rug to protect the the floor. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:We just bought our first home. While we were moving in furniture into the home the other day, we noticed some parts of the floor are not level. Example: When putting the bookcase against the wall, the bookcase did not go flesh and we noticed right in front of the fire place the floor sloped slightly downward. There were a few other spots where you could see the floor was uneven. The floors themselves seem fine though, they don’t buckle or creak there are just some spots where it looks as if someone built them uneven. The house is an 83 years old log cabin that has recently been restored the previous owner doesn't know much about the house (he was an investor). It has a walk in basement which was added sometime after the original home was built- the uneven flooring is just upstairs, downstairs (the basement) seems fine. I don’t think the home inspector noticed the floors because he didn’t write it in the report. Are uneven floors something to really worry about?
What is on the floor now as your floor covering? With some such as carpet there are reasons this is so. With out knowing that, its hard to answer. Add on since more info was provided.. You ll have to check it or have it checked for strucrual problems from below. Could something as simple as re supporting or adjusting the jack posts or a bit more such as adding jack posts which could also mean digging a footing for a support. GL
Q:My new house has blonde floating floors and I have no idea how to maintain them. My family doesn't eat or drink outside of the kitchen and we typically take off our shoes at the door. I have a shorthaired little dog who isn't going to be very happy when I try to put doggy house slippers on him because I'm so worried about scratching the floor. I'm OCD; it'd drive me crazy! I ll be using protectors under all furniture. What type of cleaner would one use weekly or biweekly for thorough cleaning on this kind of floor? Is it ok to use a Swiffer spray? I detest vinegar. Can I cover the Swiffer with a dryer sheet or will that coat the floor? Thanks
How To Clean Floating Floors
Q:I have Brazilian Walnut flooring throughout my downstairs. I have used every wood cleaning product known to man and still have dull floors. The latest thing I did was apply amonia to strip the floor of all of the products I have used and WOW what a mistake! I can now see splatters and scrub marks all over. Can someone please offer any advise??
The floor may be dull from the different products used on it. You may consider hiring a hardwood floor contractor to buff and recoat the floor. This is a very simple process that usually runs $1 per square foot and takes only about 1-2 hours to do. This will remove some surface scratches and bring back the shine for a fraction of the cost of a full sand and refinish. It involves very little mess. Then after you have the floors recoated use Bona hardwood floor cleaner. they even make a spray mop similar to the wet swiffer.
Q:What is the general thickness of ceramic tiles?
