- Q: If you read my last question you will know I was asking about a bin cage, well I found something that wouldn't take up as much room and would still provide lots of room. I was looking into tank toppers. They are cages that sit on top of an aquarium.......i would get a 10 gal. tank topper. I found one that is fall proof, so the hamster cannot fall far distances and hurt itself..... i looked at every part and it is impossible for the hamster to fall a far distance. So my question is, do you think I should get one of these tank toppers and buy a 10 gal. tank, should I make a bin cage, or should I just buy a cage from petsmart or petsuppliesplus?

- Beware of any home remedy used in a vegetable garden. The cure may be worse than the disease. I have seen some crazy things on this website which should not EVER be used on edible crops. I'd recommend that you learn to live with them unless you can specifically identify them as doing damage to your plants. In all likelihood they are not harming anything. You should squish them when you find them. Beware of home remedies in vegetable gardens and on any edible plant....and PLEASE use spell check. Bug Doc

- Continual tilling can create a hardpan at the depth of tiller blades depending on soil type and depth. Every few years either double dig or use a deep plow to break hardpan, this is mainly for drainage but continual tilling can batter soil structure to death and if you dont have good soil structure you have dust Adding compost etc will help alieviate this issue

- The only way to answer which is better is to respond with other questions. But first let me say that for longevity sake, natural stone lasts a lot longer and polished granite lasts pretty much the longest (Rock of Ages). The questions are simple, what kind of statue would you like to see in the garden? Animals, figures, abstract forms, structures. Metal can be easier to create into intricate designs and depending on the finish could easily last 5 years in your garden without much noticeable changes (powder coating would be recommended). Simple concrete forms are fairly reasonable price wise, but they do weather and stain. Other materials are also available such as clay pots (glazed is best). So it is up to you and your budget. Check out some typical garden shops that have statues available. Major chain stores may also have some items. You may also find items available online. Peter
