- My favorite is my trusty Shop Vac! I bought the smaller one. We have only one, low-traffic room with rug, so I don't miss the beater bar. It sucks up anything, and you don't have to buy bags unless you are vacuuming fine dust. The whole thing, canister, filters, and hose can be washed. I use it for our vehicles and the whole house. And when there's a water spill somewhere, just empty the canister and suck up the water. Costs around $60.

- hi petunia you wont get better than a hoover model with extra tool for pet hair they are bag-less and filters clean with water. 1600 or 2000watt motor is fine they have an overheat switch which cuts out the motor if it overheats price round about ?70 Richard
- Q: I was wondering why my vacuum cleaner was leaving trails of crap all over the place... so I flipped it upside down when it was on, and it turns out it does vacuum (quite powerfully, at that) but all the crap gets shot out of another part of the bottom! - Hmm odds are you may have a dirty filter or bag perhaps even a clog while it's normal for things to occasionally be left behind if it's leaving a lot you typically have obstructed airflow, i'm also curious are you using this on a hard floor? i know most uprights are not really made for hard floors as the brushroll will fling things back at ya if this is the case i would suggest getting a bare floor tool

- anything called industrial means it's built better (with steel rather than plastic) and lasts longer and cleans better. Everything you use takes a little work on your part though.
- Q: I have waited a year or so to finally get my hands on a hand vacuum cleaner because my mom said we needed to get a good one. Well she finally bought one, but she only bought it because it was ON SALE. I don't know much about hand vacuum cleaners, except this one SUCKS.It's by Sunbeam and it's called quot;Star Elite.It doesn't have a lot of power, only has a small opening to collect dirt etc (1quot;x 1cm) and is horrible at picking up stray pieces of hair. It only also works for 15 minutes and then it has to be charged for 15 hours.The main problem out of all that I have is the lack of power and horribly ability to pick up stray hair off the ground.Does anyone know a hand vacuum cleaner that is certainly better than this?

- if you are concerned with a vacuum at work in a company with the qualifying number of employees and you want to know whether a licensed electrician has to do the repairs the answer is no. the NEC considers it an appliance. if the cord is damaged it should be replaced. Taping it up will not pass for OSHA

- The review link you posted stated that Dyson Vacuum Cleaners are among the heavier and pricier vacuum cleaners on the market. I am a big believer in most of the research Consumer Reports does and it lists Dyson, but not as a reliable option. Most of them do have a bag to dispose of like most upright models but some do not. I have purchased the Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870, and it is awesome. It was only around $125 but it is great and easy to use. It is also a Consumer Report Best Buy and that is against vacuums in the 3, 4, 5 hundred and even $1350 price range! It is heavier than I expected (about 20 pounds) but it really kicks some butt when in use. Again, it is so simple to switch from carpet to hardwood to the hose and has a clip to lock the power cord in place so it's not always in the way.
