Q: What are the differences and which one is better?
In general terms Engineered hardwood fooring is pretty much better compared to 100% hardwood floors. 1. Stability: Instability of solid wood is mainly affected by moisture and heat, wherein it could warp, swell and split apart. none of these problems is present in the engineered wood. Therefore these said set back experienced by building contractors were very much taken cared off by manufacturers of this said simulated wood. 2. Aesthetics: Engineered wood uses also real wood veneers and produces same effect than real hard wood with a very hard finish designed for heavy traffic,Personal opinion: True hard wood is very expensive and requires skilled work in order to attain a desired effect. BUT......... If you have money to burn ... Use true solid wood wherein you could see a big difference in ELEGANCE and BEAUTY of a real wood.Much more joints could be SEAMLESS compared to engineered wood because it comes in panels with the tongue and groove connection. Have a nice day, Borges (Philippines)
Q: I would like to remove my carpet and get a nice tough wood flooring.
If you install engineered hardwood the species of wood you use will make no difference as to its durability. Engineered is always prefinished and it is the durability of the finish, and the type of installation method that you need to be concerned with. Engineered hardwood can be nailed or stapled, glued to the subfloor, glued together and floated, or simply locked together and floated with no fasteners or glue at all. Of these methods it is best to always fasten the floor down. Nail, staple, or glue the boards to the floor and you will have a much more solid feel, and the boards will be much less likely to separate. Of the floors I have seen the best looking and toughest is Br-111 exotic hardwood. It is not outrageously expensive. Armstrong also makes some good hardwood, but steer clear of some of their products such as Bruce LocknFold or other floating hardwoods.
Q: what looks the best, what is the softest for a baby to fall on?
The best looking in my opinion is the real wood, which is what it sounds like, wood cut to fit together to make a floor. Softness, really not much difference. Engineered flooring and laminate are both factory made flooring systems that resemble wood floors. My daughter is 9 months old, and we just replaced real wood floors which were cracking and splintering, with laminate.
Q: How to solve the problem of color wood floor?
Consumers in the purchase of the floor, often found on the floor color difference, color difference and color difference. Commonly known as consumers and businesses often become the focus of dispute, often buy and sell innocence suck, in fact, color wood floor is allowed to exist in People's Republic of China, the national standard "in the wood floor did not do special provisions on the color problem. What is the" color "?" color "is how the" color "? How to solve?
Q: The solid wood floor of the home from the arch, in the case of no damage to the floor, how to repair? How to remove the first floor. Because it's too tight.
In case of the arch, should first remove the skirting board, and the arch serious sawing knife with electric circular saw, so that it is not because of the continuing expansion and arch, and then observed for one or two days, if not arched, the floor was replaced with a new floor saw.
Q: Wooden floor can be installed for a few days to step on, solid wood and composite respectively need to hang a few days? Because of the urgent need to install curtains!!
No need to wait, after installation, you can walk on the top, for the installation of curtains do not have any effect - the installation of curtains, will not have an impact on the floor.
Q: Better picture or video
2, leveling the ground floor, the floor must be flat. If the local potholes are very powerful, should be leveling. Gypsum binder can be used to add 30% of the sand, add water and stir into a paste, quickly smooth. Attention should be consolidated for more than 24 hours, in order to ensure that the ground dry, and then to lay wooden keel, so as not to damp wood floors. 3, set up a wooden frame wooden keel, must be crossed, positioning. Its spacing to 30-40 cm is appropriate. Such as too wide, step up to tremble; is too narrow, it will make the wood floor is very hard, lack of flexibility. Wooden keel should be used pine, fir and other deformation is not easy, holding a strong force of wood, with expansion screws fixed on the cement floor. The moisture content must be controlled within 18%. Wood keel, skirting the back should be moisture-proof treatment. The wooden keel should be fixed and firm, the surface to be smooth, so as not to affect the installation of the floor. Use level ruler to keel surface level, if not, should be adjusted. The wooden keel should be used for ventilation. If the above requires the laying of multilayer board or Blockboard and other auxiliary plate, each plate should be evenly divided into several blocks, fixed on wooden keel, and maintains a gap of 3-5 mm, and then walk a few steps, to see whether there is a sound.

Q: I read that some engeneered hardwood floor panels have high-density particle board layered in.There are also engeneered hardwood flooring that only has plywood layers and a natural-wood on top. Isn't particle-board worthless sawdust & glue that falls apart, looks shabby, puffs out.. over time? Doesn't it dissentigrate when wet? Is this really a good idea to put in flooring? Is High-density particle board worth anything as a component in engineered hardwood flooring? Is it better to avoid it like the plague? If I do use it, what sort of moisture-barrier should I put over the cement foundation? The house is about 15 years old, so, it's up to code & should have a moisture barrier under the cement foundation, according to the contractor I talked to, but, with PARTICLE-BOARD should I take extra precautions? How can you tell which engineered hardwood floors have HDPB, which have only plywood, and which are waterproof? I plan on getting it at Home Depot or Lowes. Thanks
I agree with you that MDF or high-density particle board is not a good substrate. It swells up more than plywood when it gets wet or moist (just atmospheric moisture can be a problem; best to have air conditioning, but if that's impossible, use the plywood-based flooring). Glue is a component of plywood, too, but the plies are actual wood, not just chips of wood. Check out Bostik's products for sealers/adhesives to prepare a concrete slab for wood flooring. It's very important that you or your contractor use the recommended notched trowel to apply the sealer/adhesive.
Q: If I am not wrong Solid hardwood is one piece hardwood, engineering is multiple peice sheets glued on top of each other and Laminated is just plastic. Please correct me.Here is my situation.
Hardwood flooring would give you the best resale for the money, but is expensive. Hardwood could run anywhere from 3 to 10 dollars per square foot. If it is scratched, it can be sanded and redone later on. Engineered is a hardwood floor, but cannot be refinished in case something happens. Also costs around 2.5 to 4 dollars square foot. Laminate looks a little cheaper, but will hold up better than hardwood or Engineered in the long run. I would suggest the Pergo 30 year warranty. Hardwood has to be nailed down to the floor, Engineered has to be tacked or glued down and laminate is free floating. In the case of the hardwood and engineered, you would have to pull up the ceramic tile. With laminate, you MAY not have to do that. Laminate in stock should cost around 2 to 4 dollars a square foot. A lot of laminate floors now look like the real thing. I suggest you do some window shopping to find out for yourself.
