- Yes you need a crane to erect a crane. A large mobile crane is required to erect a tower crane but the mobile crane is much more expensive so it saves money by only being on site for a few days to erect/dismantle the tower crane.

- Yes, that was such a nice surprise. He was a great villain in Batman Begins. For a split second, I was like Wait a minute - the last time I saw Dr. Crane, he was freaking out on that Toxin they released into The Narrows. . ., but then, I remembered - he and everyone else affected by that poison were given the antidote after it was produced by Wayne Enterprises. His role as the judge at the sort of Reign Of Terror style court system is perfect - Crane clearly enjoyed watching people suffer mentally, liked seeing them terrified. Sadistic little twerp. Tough call on favorite.. . while I think the first two thirds of The Dark Knight are probably the very best of the series. . . my personal fave is Batman Begins, too. I can remember the first time I saw it, and as they're showing the establishment shot of those mountains in Asia, Raz Al-Ghul's lair. . . I kept thinking, this is different than any other Batman stuff I've seen - this is cool! Kinda sad it's over! :( Edit - And I just wanted to add - I've used that line Bruce's dad says with my own little son: Why do we fall? :)

- On a semi-close inspection, it would seem to me that Crane is saying that, ironically, the truth hurts. He's making a statement similar to Shakespeare in Hamlet. Hamlet is NOT muddled by indecision, as so many poor readers have often thought, but he sees much too much of the truth of the way of the world, and sees how futile and terrifying it is, and is embarrassed, or even humorously angered, that he should be asked to fix the world in the face of such impossible distress and futility. Similarly, the path to truth in Crane's The Wayfarer is overgrown with painful daggers which, if you step onto the path, will cut up your feet; if you take the path and find truth, you'll be hurt and dumbstruck and terrified by this path, so that the Truth (with a capital 'T') itself convinces the poem's 'hero' to turn to a different path, to choose something other than truth. And he doesn't even need to walk the path at all, only get a bit of a glimpse into truth, in order to be terrified by it.

- The Crane kick is an actual Martial Arts move it is done in some Hung Ga Kung Fu forms but differently than the one in the movie because it is done without jumping and is much faster the crane kick in the Karate Kid is just a figment of the director and screen writers imaginations.
- Q: I was looking at the glidecam hd1000 for my canon vixia hv40, but now I think I'm more interested in a crane (jib).I was thinking of the advance digital 6 ft. crane. I would replace some of the plastic parts for metal.I'll be using it to film sketches and short films. - It depends on the shots you want to get. The $370 HD-1000 Glidecam handheld stabilizer works fine for short sequences when walking or even running. But for the most part, if the camera is going to stay in one place, then a tripod is better. Back to the Glidecam handheld stabilizer... it is small and once set up (counter weights) you can leave it as-is and easily/quickly mount/dismount the camera as needed. Generally, it will be used at eye level so the camera's LCD panel can be used for framing shots. The Advanced Digital Crane stand ($60) and Crane ($150) will take a while to set up assuming it is taken apart after each work-day. It is fairly large and can get to heights the handheld Glidecam cannot get to. When the camera is mounted to the crane stage, you will not be able to see what the camera sees very well, assuming you are at the side of the crane where the counterweights are. You will want to use a monitor. I use a Sony portable DVD player with AV-out connected to the camcorder's AV-out. The rechargeable battery life on the portable DVD player is quite long when the DVD motor/player mechanism is not used. An RCA-ended extension cable will be needed. (for what it is worth, I have a Kessler 8 foot crane and use their heavy-duty tripod with their Hercules head). My cameras have a LANC port (I don't think the HV40 does). This allows start/stop recording, focus and zoom control from when I am standing back at the counterweights. Since the HV40's wireless remote sensor is at the front of the camcorder, controlling the camcorder with the wireless remote behind the camera is challenging. So... which would I recommend? It is relatively easy to get eye-level type shots (just use a tripod). Even with motion/movement, use of a wagon/dolly/chair/back-end of a truck/etc... is fairly simple. But getting the high level extended crane shots... that makes things interesting because it is a perspective most people don't see every day...
