- Q: How much does it cost to build 18, 22, 35, 40, 50, 70, 100, and 120 ton cranes?
- You would have to contact the crane manufacturer. Each size would have different cranes that meet that requirement, eg portable versus not portable. That's assuming those are total crane weight numbers? Or are they lifting capacities?
- Q: Jon and Paul are folding origami cranes. If Paul works alone he can fold 100 cranes in 5hours. together they can do the same job in 3 hours. how much time would it take for Jon to fold 100 cranes alone? Please show your work. :)

- Q: if someone have formula for that, one telescopic crane is lifting and i know about the boom lenght and redius,then how i can calculate the angle,if crane crane angle indicator is not working.thankyou.
- Boy! You really need to get the angle indicator fixed and calibrated! There are ways to estimate, but they are inaccurate and therefore not safe, if you have not got the expierence to do it. Don't use the crane for any load close to your SWL!!! An addition: unless you want to measure your reach, i.e. the distance from the crane pedestool to your load, then you can calculate the angle, but you don't need to anymore as you now know what the distance of your lift is and therefore you can look up the SWL on your chart. Get it fixed.

- Of course you need specialised training! Crane operators have to sit several courses in safe crane operations. Crane operators tend to just work cranes and not help with general building work as they earn more money and it is only cost effective to have them on site when they are actually needing to use the crane.
- Q: how does the power electronic drives employed in cranes?
- The primary function of an electronic drive is to provide for operation at various speeds. Slow speed operation is used when moving a load into position. Faster speeds are used for moving loads over longer distances. When the operating speed is steplessly adjustable, ramped acceleration and deceleration control is easily provided as well. Controlled acceleration provides smoother operation because acceleration at a constant rate means accelerating with a constant force or torque. Electronic drives control torque and current during starting. They perform a function similar to a reduced voltage motor starter, but they do it steplessly, more efficiently, with more complete control of applied torque. They provide more torque per ampere of current than any other starting method. This is very beneficial for the frequent starting and stopping often required for cranes. Electromechanical motor controls for cranes require additional contactors, relays and other components to perform functions such as reversing, motor overload protection and braking. These functions are incorporated into the electronic controls with electronic drives. Electronic braking can return energy to the power supply and bring the load to nearly a complete stop before a friction brake is applied. For holding the load in position, an electromechanical brake is still required. Electronic drives can be used on bridge, trolley and hoist applications.

- They add extra stages from the bottom. A tower crane is erected from a boom assembly, first and second tower sections of different cross section, and a base in a sequence of steps in which the boom assembly is mounted on a hollow climbing section dimensioned to be received in each of the larger second tower sections and defining a cavity dimensioned to receive each of the first tower sections. One of the latter is secured on a base in upright position, and the upright section is received in the cavity of the climbing section which is then raised relative to the first section and enveloped by one of the second sections. The enveloping section is secured to the base and the raised climbing section for supporting the climbing section whereupon the first tower section may be released from the base, raised, and secured to the second tower section. The climbing section may then be raised relative to the first tower section to permit the installation of another second section, and the procedure repeated, until all second or larger tower sections are superimposed on each other, the one first section being ultimately attached to the topmost second section. When the climbing section is raised relative to the attached first section, another first section may be superimposed on the one first section and the procedure repeated until the slimmer portion of the tower is assembled from superimposed first sections. Ultimately, the boom assembly is attached to the topmost first tower section, and the climbing section may be removed or stored for further use on the wider, lower tower portion.

- What is the load weight? How high is the lift? Obstruction, possibly needing a jib? If you are placing a load onto a roof, how far from the edge of the roof is the load going to be placed? How far from the crane pivot is the load on the ground and how far are you going to to move the load away from the crane to place it in position? How close can you get the crane to the load and to the load placement site. The usual scenario is to call a crane outfit and they will ask you these questions over the phone or come to the site and discuss the lift with you. A crane is rated for maximum lift as close, usually 10 feet,to the cab pivot center. As the distance increases, the maximum load that can be lifted, decreases. Our 15 ton crane can pick 15 tons/ 30,000 pounds at 10 feet from pivot center. With the boom fully extended; the boom is 100 feet, at a 30 degree angle, it can pick up only 5,000 pounds. - Q: I have a Manfrotto/Bogen 055XB tripod that says it supports up to about 15lbs. The crane I'm looking into getting is the Glidecam Camcrane 200 which says it has a payload of up to 30lbs. depending on the height. What would happen if I were to use this crane with my tripod?
