- Large cranes are built in sections imagine like an erector set. When there is a large building to be built the crane arrives in smaller easier to manage pieces and assembled on site.

- These are dangerous peices of equipment, they endure high stress and are at times pushed to the physical limits. I have on occassion worked with and under them and always had a lot of respect and always felt safer when away from them. Construction cranes in particular are more dangerous because they are forever changing in height,position, amount and type of load. Cranes in permanent installations are ususlly carrying same or similar loads. Construction sites are hazardous due to many factors but just about everything on site gets handled by the crane at one time or another. Inspection,inspection, and re-inspection with concurrent correction/adjustment are the only preventative measure availble beside the assurance of competency of the operator. There are plenty of laws about them already but this is not to say new ones might be justified as new hazards become apparent. Most terrorists are too dumb or lazy to get involved with cranes--why bother when so many easy targets are out there !!!!!!!!

I never noticed any before ( when i lived in colorado) but it seems lately that they are all over!!!! every time i open my damn door AT LEAST 5 of them come in! THERE SO GROSS with there big hanging legs! EWWWWW! Anyways, when will they go away and what do i do to keep them from getting in my house?
- The crane fly season only last for a month or so. There are years when they can reach almost plague proportions but within another 2-3 years their numbers should return to normal.. They can cause some damage to farm crops but the good news is that they are harmless to us.

- Talk to a lumber yard that has a boom truck. Ask them how much to do it. A boom truck will cost much less than a crane. A boom truck can reach 45 to 50 feet. In this economy they are looking for anything they can get. They will most likely do it. But when really busy they wont. But things are slow. Builder 30 years. A crane will cost about 250.00 of the first hour. with a one hour min.
