- Q: i have a peugeot 106 with stock speakers (front and rear) i have a cd player fitted, it's not a known make but apparently it has a peak amplitude of 51 watts. after the volume goes up to about 21 on the dial the music beomes too distorted to go any louder, do i need a better cd player or better speakers?

- Google it?? funny. Speakers can only have one power source per inputif the amp is powering the speakerthen the radio cannot. Perhaps the radio can provide a signal by way of the previous speaker connections.which is usually done with RCA connection insteadbut that is about all those connection are good for since you have the amp powering the speakers now!!! Unless this is a serious installationseveral thousands of dollars. the trick is to try and reuse as much of the factory speaker wiring as possiblewhereever the best points may be. I have software to tell me these points and each car is differentso maybe you should stick with the back of the stereo where you know all the speaker wires are instead of tearing apart several body panels.

- There is many things that determine the quality of speakers, to much to get into on these forums. One thing for sure specifications will tell you virtually nothing about sound quality, they are only helpful when matching equipment to them. On your budget the best thing to get would be a pair of self powered monitors, as most are designed for higher sound pressure levels. There again are vast differences in the sound quality of monitors so you will want to choose carefully based on ether how they sound to you, or if you don't have the chance to audition them go by reviews. The best speakers i can recommend in your budget are the Tannoy 501a, which are $350 for the pair. They are well balanced, detailed, musical all the things that are important to monitor back music with when mixing or recording, or simply listening to music. They are sold as singles so you will need a pair of them. They play pretty darn loud if you need them to, and since they have built in amplifiers, are unlikely to damage them. - Q: I recently bought an external speaker from CD-R King. Once plugged in my Asus K42F, a weird sound was produced by my Altec Lansing built-in speaker. After which, Altec Lansing's Left speaker isn't working anymore, while the Right speaker have worst quality ever. I need help with this. I plugged in a headset, quality's good. When I unplugged it, the built-in speaker sounds like trash. Help everyone.
- It is possible that the external speaker connector is bad, or the solder connections on it were bad, and plugging things into it are making the connections to the internal speakers worse. When you plug something into that jack, while connection is made to the external speakers or headphones, it also disconnects the internal speakers. If when you remove the plug, the contacts are not made solid to the internal speakers again, you could have a result like you are describing. If you put in your headphone plug, and move it around a bit, take it in and out a few times, does the other speaker ever cut back in for a few seconds or intermittently, and does the bad sound in the other speaker consist of the audio getting cut in and out or a scratchy sound? If so, could be that the external speaker/headphone jack is bad. One thing for certain, there is no way that the external speakers CAUSED damage to your notebook or it's internal speakers. YOU may have caused damage by putting too much pressure on the jack while plugging the speakers in, or when removing them. Or the jack could have been defective from the factory, or had a cold solder joint. Without being there to look at it myself, I can only give these guesses.
- Q: I have a Marantz 80 watt surround sound amp. I need to buy bookshelf speakers for listening to music. I want to buy good quality mid-range speakers, any brand. Any recommendations?
- Marantz builds a good quality amplifier and has a nice warm sound to it. So you want to choose speakers that will work well both electrically and be complemented sonically by the amplifier. Do they have to be bookshelf speakers ? Of course with small bookshelf speakers they will be somewhat limited in bass output (which isn't a bad thing) its just a limitation due to size. Sure you can make up for that with a subwoofer, but that introduces a whole other set of concerns. If they didn't have to be bookshelf I would recommend looking into Magnepan, or Vandersteen as they are making the best budget speakers out there right now, and would work nicely with your Marantz amplifier. They would also produce a nice full sound without the need of buying and dealing with placement and calibration concerns of using a subwoofer with the bookshelf speakers. As for bookshelf speakers, Tannoy, Kef, Aerial Acoustics, BW, all make nice sounding bookshelf speakers. There are also many others, but all will be found at the better audio stores. Or simply go and discover your local independent high end audio video store as they carry the better brands of speakers. The salesmen at these stores also have years of experience designing higher quality systems so they can best help you find the right speakers for how you like to listen, the room it will be played in, and that matches with your amplifier correctly. - Q: I have been looking for speakers for my truck and I was at walmart and meijer last night and determined that I would probably get the speakers from walmart because they have a larger selsction. But my question is, when the speaker box says Power Handling Peak 300 Watts what does that mean? Also what is a 3-way speaker, could you just tell me what those are and then list off other good thing to consider when looking for the right speaker set? I am just looking for a set of 2 speakers I believe they are 6X9 I have to make sure though, and I have a 4X45 watt stereo in the truck so if I get a 70 watt speaker I could get a more powerful stereo, right? - Peak is exactly that - the speakers can handle brief spikes of that power but are not rated to handle it continually. Good rule of thumb - get speakers rated at TWICE the output of your stereo - so for your 4x45, get 4 100W speakers - make sure the speakers and stereo are using the same rating system, as there are around 3 ways to measure power output in stereo systems.
- Q: I have an '09 Nissan Altima 2.5L and although I love the stock speakers, they are really blown to smitherines. P I had them replaced before by Nissan and they were awesome about it because they blew out before I had owned the car for a month so they replaced them for free. But now that the car is a year old, I need to buy new speakers myself.I was wondering 2 things: 1) Should I pay up to Nissan to replace my speakers with the stock brand speakers or get some higher quality ones that wont blow so easily? Also, any suggestions?and 2) Will getting new speakers void my warranty on my car?Thanks!
- It is always a good idea to put factory equipment in vehicles whenever possible when it is still under warranty. However, aftermarket speakers are fairly safe. I hate to admit it but you can get better speakers for half the price! The reason I say they are fairly safe is because they would only void warranty on any problems caused by the speakers. Seams pretty safe to me since it's hard to see any major issues cause by a set of speakers.
