Thanks!: If you look closely you will probably find the green wire in the ceiling is only attached to the junction box, connect all green and bare wires together, whites together and blacks and reds together, I'm sorry to tell you that you do not have enough wires present to control the fan and light separately, which is why they have chains, and you will have to use them. It sounds like the installation you have may allow the use of X10 modules for independent switching if it is needed. Be aware, your ceiling j-box may not be UL an NEC approved for fan installation. Ground wires are allowed to be either green or bare, and fixture ground wires are not required by ul to be copper, and all grounds should be attached together.

Q: i'm building a race car out of a buick century and the tail lights wires got cut, come to find out the fuel pump ties into the talight wiring harness, i found the wires going to the fuel pump but i'm not sure what is what, there's 4 wires going to it, black, black with a white strip, gray, and pur any ideas what is what please so i can just run a switch to the fuel pump... thanks: Examine the wires at the fuel pump junction on top of the fuel tank. I'd bet one of the wires is the GREY wire. Another way you can determine which is which, get a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) and turn on the lights. Check to see which line has power. That's the line for the tail lights. Then have someone step on the brake pedal. Another wire should go hot (have voltage on the DVM). Slowly you will be able to figure out which wire does what. The left over wires (likely two) are for the fuel pump. Good luck. :)

Q: so there are 3 different wires coming into the switch. 1 black wire and 2 white wires going to the attic fan (i assume one for high and one for low). the power seems to be coming from the black wire which has inside of it, one white wire (neutral) one black wire (hot) and one bare wire (ground).. the same for the 2 white wires. the switch goes up (^) for high and down (v) for low and has 3 places to attach the wires to. the top, the bottom and the middle.. can someone tell me how to wire this damn thing?: Attic Fan Switch 2 Speed

Q: I have a 200 amp main breaker just below my meter, which is mounted on a pole. The neutral wire coming in is run to ground. From this box, I've run 2 cables (1/0) ~80 ft to another box with a 150 amp main breaker. This box is grounded to an 8ft ground rod. I am wondering whether this setup (no neutral wire from meter pole to building) would potentially allow a ground fault without tripping the 200 amp main. For example, if somebody dug into the line with a backhoe? Oh yeah, the cable is in a 3ft deep trench that will be covered. Unless it's quite old an then there labeled on the Eng.
