Q: I need help with my white tile grout. Nothing I do keeps/gets it clean. Any tips for an easy fix to dirty grout, or does anyone know if it‘s possible to add color to grout after it‘s been set?: Products like Clorox or Oxyclean will work if the stain is caused by an organic material. If it is caused by soil or clay that is basically a mineral without a carbon base, the stain probably is permanent. In my experience when staining a concrete floor next to a tile shower we inadvertantly sprayed stain on the shower floor. The pure white grout turned reddish brown just like the concrete did. We had used an acid based stain. I believe you could easily stain the grout successfully. You may want to try it in a non-conspicous area first.

Q: This is what I need some information on. I decided to put some floor tile in front of my door in my living room where some carpet is. So what size should I cut out of the carpet where I‘m going to put the tile ? If you have any advice how I should go about this just let me know. You no something like the dos as well as the don‘ts: Cut your carpet and pad smaller that the area where you are laying the tile. If at all possible, I'd roll both the carpet and pad back in one piece without cutting them until the tile work was completely done. Then install your carpet tack strip about 3/8 inch away from the tile. Cut the pad along the outer edge of the tack strip. Then cut the carpet to go over the tack strip about 1/4 to 3/8 inch longer than the edge of the tile. With a stiff blade putty knife tuck the carpet securely between the tack strip and the tile. That's the best help I can give you without doing it for you. Good Luck and don't try to rush things. Remember, the tile thin set and grout must be completely dry or they will move on you.

Q: I have plain jane 4 white ceramic tile and it does not go with my new room colors for my bath....can this be painted?: Why don't you get Wallies or decals and decorate the white tiles? they are easy to remove if you get tired of the theme and don't cost a lot.

Q: hi friends.. we r constructing a new house.. many people say us lay tiles for floorins and many say to use marbles or granite?...so confused!!!!.. wat to do?quite big house situated quite beneath the hills.: Tile is much better suited for floors. It is harder and less likely to stain or scratch. Granite is the next best choice because it is harder than marble and less porous and likely to stain. Marble is the softer and most likely to stain. The first floor of our current house is all ceramic tile.

Q: I have 12x12 tiles in my kitchen on the floor and about 5 of them are cracked/damaged. How hard is it to replace them, can I do it myslef or hire a professional? What materials will be needed?: It's very hard to match the tiles. Also you will have to remove the grout around each broken one, and then crack the broken one into pieces, then remove clean the surface, apply adhesive, and then the tile, and then grout. The color of grout will never match up 100% and neither will the tile. Also it will take you a good part of the day. Good luck with your project!

Q: What‘s the difference between tile mastic tile adhesive? I was told to paint the wall w/paint primer first then use tile adhesive rather than tile mastic to apply tiles on damaged green board around my jaccuzzi tub for a quick fix. The green paper peeled off when removing the old tile exposing the brown cardboard stuff.: Tile mastic is the pre mixed glue that come in pails . Quart , gallon, and 3 1/2 gallon pails. Adhesive is used as a general term .. It can be a mastic, a thin set etc..Either will work for the suggestion I had given you about painting the green board to allow any adhesive to adhere.. Q: Ok the room is 12X16 thats 192 square foot right? well each box of tile is 30 square foot how many boxes would i need: 192/30 = 6.4 boxes, but it's rarely that simple. Depending on layout and size of tile (diagonal, border, number of obstacles etc.) you need to figure waste %. Say 10-20%. Waste % really depends a lot on how intricate a pattern and how big of tile it is, it will change the equation a lot (smaller tile less so than larger). 192x1.10= 211 = 7 192x1.20=230 or 230/30 = 7.6 Say 8 to be safe or 9 and return one.

Q: Hello! I currently have a 3 season sunroom addition on the back of my home that has been stripped down to the wood. I recently saw a 4 season sunroom that had tile down and needless to say, I fell in love with it! I am thinking about putting tile down in there but am worried about the weather...I live in Minnesota where it gets very cold...and that room is not heated in the winter. I put it in my bathroom and it is not as cold as tiles to the bare feet. It is a wood/paper based product but is waterproof for the normal house hold duty. I assume that the Minnesota winter will not make it too cold. Use a styrefoam underlay 2mm thick to prevent heat loss. this is a do it yourself job if you are handy with a saw, We know it as TILE LOK
