- Q:I understand the Crane stances and know there are more than one. I am referring to the single leg crane stance. I also know that stances are only used briefly. But I am curious, does this stance have any bunkai applications? Or is it only useful against dodging a kick or preparing to kick?
- I use it for evading/stepping away from an attack, against a front leg sweep, you shift your weight to the other leg and pull up the front leg, blocking/checking a kick, striking with the knee, breaking down a foundation on the downward motion, hooking/trapping opponents leg on the upward motion especially if you hook your own foot around your leg you are standing on, sweeping,.... just a few applications that come to mind off the tippy top of my head. So you see it is by no means just a defensive stance and can be quite offensive too.

- Wing Chun Fist is derived from White Crane Fist and Snake Fist. The original name of the White Crane Fist is Eng Chun Bai He Quan. The 5 Ancestor style is Ngo Cho Kuen or Wu Zu Quan, again - dialectal differences. It is also a Fukienese Art. Wing Chun, a Southern Shaolin Style is NOT related in ANY way to Hsing I Chuan, which is of Wu Tang/Taoist origin. Goju Ryu has some White Crane Influence but is derived from the Hakka Arts like Southern Mantis, Bak Mei and the like. Tiger Crane and White Crane are not related. The crane in the Hung Family Boxing is more the Tibetan White Crane and not the Fujian Crane. There is a mix up in the history which makes it a bit complicated. Gee Sim was from the Northern Shaolin School and went south to the Fukien temple to escape the Ching. He taught there, met Hung Hei Koon and taught him Tiger Fist. Gee Sim and Hung also left Fukien because of the Ching and went to Guandong and there is where Hung Fist developed into what it is today. The White Crane Fist of Fujian/Fukien came from the 18 Lohan Style Fang Chi Niang learned from her Father, who was a student at the Fukien temple, and mimicry of Crane movements. These styles, Crane and Hung were being developed around the same time but hundreds of miles apart. It is known that Wong Fei Hung trained in Lama Pai aka Tibetan Crane and also he is credited with creating the Tiger Crane Form aka Fu Hok. I hope this helps.

- Steel, like you said, do you want an exact specification? That will vary by whether it is a very long and slender tall crane or a shorter heavy duty for considerable loads. It may even vary depending on whether the manufacturer has as a goal an extra light weight unit using more expensive stronger steel or is willing to use thicker walls to use more ordinary steel. That is what engineers are for.
- Q:I can't seem to find the item I'm looking for on-line. Maybe some fellow crane operator happens to know where I can find this. It's a quick releasing crane hook, it drops the load on cue. I think it would probably be remote-controlled.
- What load rating are you looking for? I am familiar with heavy lift cranes and smaller ones that do not have any sort of release device that you are looking for. Most rated crane hooks have to be qualified to carry that load and any quick release feature could fail, dropping the load. Maybe you could find such a hook for a non-industrial application, but I have never seen anything like this in use.

On the test there was a question that went something like this The crane is rated 40Ton, with a boom lenght of 40ft and at an angle of 70 deg. The jib is 8ft long on a 10 deg angle.
