- Q: OMG! a phoba of crane flys, and there are 5 on my celling right now!!! What do I do, will the move and fly around eventually? I can't kill them, they are out of my reach, and if they start moving, im runing the %^$ outta my house. Will they die by tommorow? or will they just hang there?
- Yuk! I feel your pain - I hate crane flies, too. They are the only animals I don't like. I know they are harmless but they're just so damn creepy, with all those horrible long legs just waiting to dangle on your face! *shudder* My normal way of dealing with them is to smack them with a magazine or newspaper, but if they're on the ceiling I'd go with the person who said suck them up with the Hoover. If you can stand to have them in the house much longer, you could just wait for them to die - they only live 24 hours (in their adult form, that is - they will already have spent some time as larvae). In response to mj1112's answer, crane flies do not eat mosquitoes! As adults they usually do not feed at all, since they live only 24 hours - if they do, it will just be a sip of nectar.
- Q: I am currently in the Air Force reserves as a heavy equipment operator. I really want to learn how to become a tower crane operator. How would I go about doing this? I live in CA.
- Hey Patrick, I was formerly a tower crane erector out of Washington DC. BUt, to yor question, I wold highly recommend you go to your town's Operator engineers Union Hall and inquire as to the qualifications and requirements to enroll in their apprenticeship program. Yes you will have to go thru the apprenticeship program. A tower crane operator is a coveted job among operators... You have to learn to hold your 'P for long periods as well as have great depth perception You coming out of the service, you should be given some preference Good luck
- Q: i have to make a children's story about how the whooping crane became endangered; (based on real facts) ideas?
- Check out these books: The Whooping Crane by Alison Imbraico The Birds of Heaven by Peter Mathiessen Cranes by Janice Maryan Hughes The library should have some childrens books for you to look at. Hope this helps.
- Q: How much height should tower crane work at M?
- When the crane in the layout to drawing, especially in real estate development area, residential buildings, such as tower crane, but also to consider the safety distance of adjacent tower crane, two in horizontal and vertical direction to ensure the safe distance of not less than 2m, the adjacent tower crane tower crane and interference can not occur.
- Q: i want to go to school and learn to operate over head cranes
- A few places to start the bureau of labor statistics has information on moving trades. You will need certification although requirements vary. The National Commission for the certification of Crane operators lists different types of operators and requirements for certification. States have their own laws about certification and requirements you can check it out, in some states certification is not required yet. I've included a link to the laws for Minnesota. There are a number of companies it would probably help if you are currently working in Construction and for a company that might help pay for the training or learn on the job. I don't know what state your in but there are a number of companies that do training you can do a quick search with Crane operator training. One other resource is the local Division of DET Division of Employment and Training for your state they can help you research your options and vocational counseling. Good Luck
- Q: The cantilever part has to stay at least 6-12 inches off the ground.
- Then how are you interlocking the popsicle sticks? Most projects like this allow for thread and glue. OK.. so you can glue them and, I assume, cut them. Use a truss system made out of small pieces of split sticks to build and strengthen the support of your crane and make that long arm out of a series of sticks that form an interlocking triangle when you look into the arm. Stagger the triangle pieces so that no two joints are in the same location and then glue small splints to the inside of the long pieces.at ecah of those joints. If you have no weight limit and the support column will hold it, consider filling the triangle with a coating of glue.. be sure to allow several days for it to dry. That way the glue will also add an element of strength Take your tme, use a strong glue if you have that option - like Gorilla Glue, ,and build it in sections. Be sure to let the glue dry fully before moving on to the next stage. For the triangle portion, you can use thread to bind the pieces into a triangle shape until the glue dries and then remove the thread and use light sand paper to remove any residue. for the counterweight of the cantilever, fashion a small box out of pieces of sticks and fill it with a dense glue. As the glue hardens and compacts add more glue. When the glue has fully dried, remove the sticks unless you are still within your 150 count. That way the glue serves two functios and your instructions do not prohibit this. Hope that helps
- Q: I was given a CCRadio and I have no idea what it is or what it does. The guy that gave it to me says it's an Awesome DXing radio (whatever that means). The display doesn't work but other than that the radio works fine and pulls in alot of stations the previous owner said. Can anyone help me understand what a CCRadio is and what it does? Thanks to all that contribute.
- Hard to say much about it without knowing the model #. DX = distance in radio parlance.
- Q: Last week, I decided to make 1000 paper cranes as a new project. I am very craft- oriented, and have made numerous knitted scarfs, crocheted blankets (still in the works), and cross stitch patterns for family members. I have made 2 large cross stitch patterns, one for my grandma (took me 2 years to do) and one for my dad (2 months). My mom's birthday is coming up, and I was wondering if I should give her 1000 paper cranes as a present? I haven't yet given her anything that I made, and I feel bad about it. I don't have enough time to cross stitch a pattern or anything, and I can easily make 1000 by December. Would it be a sentimental present? Should I do it? Would she like it? If not, what should I get her? I want it to be something that I made so that it will be personal.

- Q: I know that the whooping crane population recovered through captive breeding but how many are left currently (right now).
- There were 535 total in 2009--the population increased slightly last year but I have not seen a total for the population of 2010. Deaths can occur at any time so the number changes constantly. The Journey North site counts 281 adults in the wild western population and 106 birds in the reintroduced eastern flock. They did not give a number for the birds in captivity so I cannot give you a total. You can follow the reintroduced whooping crane population and their migration each spring and fall on the Journey North (in fall called Journey South site). They also track song birds and hummingbirds and monach butterflies.
- Q: I'm 17 and I was planning on reading it for class, do you think it will be easy to read?
- Stephen Crane, Maggie is fantastic! I read it in school when I was 14 so I have no doubt you will have no problems in reading it. Maggie is the tale of an inevitable fall from grace on the part of a young, innocent girl trapped in the vicious world of New York City's slums. Yearning for acceptance and love, beaten at home by alcoholic parents, Maggie sets out with Pete, a local bartender whose cultured mannerisms elicit great respect from the impressionable young girl. However, when Pete spurns her for another, Maggie is ejected out onto the street, forced into prostitution to make a living. We last see her moving off, a huge, oily fat man in tow, for a darkened corner in the city's seedy underworld. If Upton Sinclair's The Jungle is a torrent of social anger and protest, Crane's Maggie is like a brilliant lightning strike, flashing across our vision and leaving us temporarily blinded. The book--scarcely 70 pages--is succint, brutish, and merciless. Crane allows his readers to form their own opinions regarding the characters. His innovative use of near-phonetic spelling to depict in the reader's ear the local dialect of New York's rough neighborhoods was shocking and difficult to comprehend when the book was first released. It lends Maggie an air of earthy legitimacy. Ultimately, Maggie is a cry for the plight of poor children--the souls we overlook with a callous unease mirrored in Pete's offhand, uncaring rejection of young Maggie's genuine love and affection. It is, without qualification, Stephen Crane's greatest and most moving achievement.
