- Q: Okay, like a week ago I caught a daddy long legs (a crane fly) in my room with a mug and an envelope and I just left it there, when I removed it there were loads of little black dots on the envelope, I didn't really think about it cos I figured it was the coffee that was inside the mug or something. - Ok, I can help. The first step is to take the crane stock off. To do so, extend the stock fully. Then, take the tab you use to extend it, and instead of pushing up to extend it, pull it down and slide the stock off. It make take some force. Be careful of any wires and that you don't break them! Next: take the buffer tube out. Take a long phillips head screw driver and stick it down the shaft. Remove the screw. The whole tube should come out. Don't lose the screw! Next: Install your stock. Next: Screw the screw back in to secure the stock. Done! Make sure the wires are still ok and that they are not pinched!

- Large cranes are dismantled and sections are placed on numerous flatbed semi-trucks and transported to other locations. Typically this is done early morning, or late evening when traffic is at its minimum. Sections are typically no longer that 60' in length.
- Q: I'm trying to workout the best height of a truss for a ship-to-shore container crane project. The crane will have a 65m outreach, 18m center section and 15m backreach. I was thinking in the region of 2m-3m truss height.Any input would be great.Thanks

- Q: So, this might seem like an odd question, but here goes.I work in an office and outside the windows there's a crane. Every day I come in from work, it has turn a little. The half-finished building that it stands next to is not being worked on and there's never anyone using the crane during the day. There's no other construction going on in the area is stands at.It's pretty high up like 6th to 7th floot and it's in a windy town. Does that matter?Why would someone turn around a crane during the night? Is it all a scheme to make me paronoid because they know I'm starring out the window most of the day?
- Hi Peter no matter how good he brake on the turn table of the crane is it will be effected by the direction of the wind blowing at any time so it will have some influence on the direction the jib or the crane is in. it will turn just like a weather vane does. it is actually a safety feature.
- Q: How do Crane Motors Work?
- I'm not 100% familiar with this but this should be pretty close to the answer. Simple/standard crane motors work by applying power first through a rotating steel shaft into a gearbox. The gearbox allows the gearing ratio to be changed (to trade rotation speed for torque or torque for rotation speed). Another steel shaft carries the power out of the gearbox, again through rotation, to a spindle (think big thimble) around which steel cable is wrapped.
