- Q:Many schools I visited claim to teach styles like white crane and even Okinawa/Japanese Karate has come from white crane styles, however I seldom see techniques, kata, forms, or drills that encompass crane concepts of even crane movements. Why is that? At some traditional schools kung-fu/karate it is easy to see the animal influence but at others there is none. Does this also indicate a lack of understanding or incomplete training. What do you think.
- Maybe you only got to see the very basics of the styles you observed. Our Kata has crane Rohai, Chinto and Gojushiho especially but they are black belt Kata that even the mudansha (colored ranks) in my school very rarely get to see, let alone outsiders who just come in once to observe a class.
- Q:What association does Wing Chun have with Fujian White Crane (Tiger-crane) kung fu?
- Wing Chun Fist is derived from White Crane Fist and Snake Fist. The original name of the White Crane Fist is Eng Chun Bai He Quan. The Eng Chun part is the Fukienese dialect for Wing Chun, which is the name of the Village it derived in. It is also pronounced Yong Chun White Crane Fist and from it is where Wing Chun derives its Fajing technique known as 1 inch punch. The 5 Ancestor style is Ngo Cho Kuen or Wu Zu Quan, again - dialectal differences. It is also a Fukienese Art. Wing Chun, a Southern Shaolin Style is NOT related in ANY way to Hsing I Chuan, which is of Wu Tang/Taoist origin. Goju Ryu has some White Crane Influence but is derived from the Hakka Arts like Southern Mantis, Bak Mei and the like. Tiger Crane and White Crane are not related. The crane in the Hung Family Boxing is more the Tibetan White Crane and not the Fujian Crane. There is a mix up in the history which makes it a bit complicated. Gee Sim was from the Northern Shaolin School and went south to the Fukien temple to escape the Ching. He taught there, met Hung Hei Koon and taught him Tiger Fist. Gee Sim and Hung also left Fukien because of the Ching and went to Guandong and there is where Hung Fist developed into what it is today. The White Crane Fist of Fujian/Fukien came from the 18 Lohan Style Fang Chi Niang learned from her Father, who was a student at the Fukien temple, and mimicry of Crane movements. These styles, Crane and Hung were being developed around the same time but hundreds of miles apart. It is known that Wong Fei Hung trained in Lama Pai aka Tibetan Crane and also he is credited with creating the Tiger Crane Form aka Fu Hok. I hope this helps.
- Q:I caught this crane fly in my garage but is almost the size of a dragonfly. It has a 3 inch wingspan. I saved it in a jar because I though no one would believe me. so do they really get this big or is this thing a freak?
- the answer is yes.
- Q:Also, could anyone give me a site with a detailed behind the scenes look on different types of freight ships? I hold a strong interest in the shipping sector and being unsure on little details like these annoy me. Thanks!
- ? ? ? Onboard Cranes from the cabs on each Crane , where'd you think from ?
- Q:What is a tower crane without a collector?
- Once again, because the collector is using carbon brush and copper ring contact, the tower crane work in the sway of the impact is too large, easy to cause carbon brush and copper ring arc between burning. Combined with this reason, today's tower cranes do not use collector. The drawback is that the tower crane can not be one-way one-way rotation. So now the use of rotary limiter, set the tower one-way rotation can only turn 540 degrees, want to turn, can only turn in the opposite direction.
- Q:Hi, I'd like to know what a crane symbolises in the asian(?) culture. any other meaningful symbols do list.
- The cranes' beauty and their spectacular mating dances have made them highly symbolic birds in many cultures with records dating back to ancient times. Crane mythology is widely spread and can be found in areas such as the Aegean, South Arabia, China, Korea, Japan and in the Native American cultures of North America. In northern Hokkaidō, the women of the Ainu people, whose culture is more Siberian than Japanese, performed a crane dance that was captured in 1908 in a photograph by Arnold Genthe. In Korea, a crane dance has been performed in the courtyard of the Tongdosa Temple since the Silla Dynasty (646 CE). In Mecca, in pre-Islamic South Arabia, the goddesses Allat, Uzza, and Manah, who were believed to be daughters of and intercessors with Allah, were called the three exalted cranes (gharaniq, an obscure word on which 'crane' is the usual gloss). See The Satanic Verses for the best-known story regarding these three goddesses. The Greek for crane is Γερανο? (Geranos), which gives us the Cranesbill, or hardy geranium. The crane was a bird of omen. In the tale of Ibycus and the cranes, a thief attacked Ibycus (a poet of the 6th century BCE) and left him for dead. Ibycus called to a flock of passing cranes, who followed the murderer to a theater and hovered over him until, stricken with guilt, he confessed to the crime. Pliny the Elder wrote that cranes would appoint one of their number to stand guard while they slept. The sentry would hold a stone in its claw, so that if it fell asleep it would drop the stone and waken.
- Q:i probably sound like an idiot asking this question :Pis it electricity? fossil fuel burning involved? pulleys? how does the pulley work? any human power involved? specifically, how is it stupid to lift a chair that can be lifted by a person, with a crane?
- A crane is a pulley and using simple machines like wedges, screws, pulleys etc. takes less work.
- Q:What i am seeing is that people are using manual digging and buckets and manually cutting through steel! If they use cranes, it would be alot faster to get to those buried. I dont belive it is unsafe, if they are meticulous.
- Firstly, it can be damnable hard to move cranes through rubble filled streets, even assuming if such things happen to be readily available. Secondly, as the mess beneath the rubble is bound to be unstable, moving stuff off from the top can cause collapses further down. That danger can be lessened by working more slowly and carefully. I dont belive it is unsafe, if they are meticulous. Your belief is all well and good, but is it based on actual experience?
- Q:I only wish to know about Tower Cranes, not any other type of crane. Also only wish to know about cranes on the job, not sitting in a crane yard. I am an operator and looking to move and want to know where the work is best so a list of top five would be terrific. Thanks.
- We have been told that our state bird was a crane. That's because there are so many of them here all the time. Construction is booming in Oklahoma. I think most of them are coming from the east and west coasts. They can get a much larger house here for a whole lot less. They are sold when they are being built.
