- Q: Would you say that Ichabod Crane is socially awkward??
- absolutely.
- Q: its dead im so scared if thes so called flys i tired to kill it but wen ever i get some thing to kill it its hideing
- Crane flies, also known as mosquito eaters or mosquito hawks, are harmless. There is no reason to fear them. They do not bite or feed on anything and only live a short time, maybe 24 to 48 hours. I have them in my house quite frequently during March and April. They fly really slowly and don't try to fly away if you want to smack it with a flyswatter. They are big and ugly but that's about it. They seem to be more active at night and are attracted to light, kind of like moths. Maybe you could lure yours out of your room by leaving a light in the hall and other rooms dark.

- Q: I was looking at the glidecam hd1000 for my canon vixia hv40, but now I think I'm more interested in a crane (jib).I was thinking of the advance digital 6 ft. crane. I would replace some of the plastic parts for metal.I'll be using it to film sketches and short films. (my budget is 350 dollars, but id like it to be under that)the crane is 200 dollarsthe glidecam is 370 dollars (on amazon)Thanks,Mike
- It depends on the shots you want to get. The $370 HD-1000 Glidecam handheld stabilizer works fine for short sequences when walking or even running. But for the most part, if the camera is going to stay in one place, then a tripod is better. Back to the Glidecam handheld stabilizer... it is small and once set up (counter weights) you can leave it as-is and easily/quickly mount/dismount the camera as needed. Generally, it will be used at eye level so the camera's LCD panel can be used for framing shots. The Advanced Digital Crane stand ($60) and Crane ($150) will take a while to set up assuming it is taken apart after each work-day. It is fairly large and can get to heights the handheld Glidecam cannot get to. When the camera is mounted to the crane stage, you will not be able to see what the camera sees very well, assuming you are at the side of the crane where the counterweights are. You will want to use a monitor. I use a Sony portable DVD player with AV-out connected to the camcorder's AV-out. The rechargeable battery life on the portable DVD player is quite long when the DVD motor/player mechanism is not used. An RCA-ended extension cable will be needed. (for what it is worth, I have a Kessler 8 foot crane and use their heavy-duty tripod with their Hercules head). My cameras have a LANC port (I don't think the HV40 does). This allows start/stop recording, focus and zoom control from when I am standing back at the counterweights. Since the HV40's wireless remote sensor is at the front of the camcorder, controlling the camcorder with the wireless remote behind the camera is challenging. So... which would I recommend? It is relatively easy to get eye-level type shots (just use a tripod). Even with motion/movement, use of a wagon/dolly/chair/back-end of a truck/etc... is fairly simple. But getting the high level extended crane shots... that makes things interesting because it is a perspective most people don't see every day...
- Q: Is there a certain direction and reason a construction worker will leave a crane facing a certain direction.
- Like 2 others said... if the predicted winds are to be higher than, say, 25 mph, they would point the crane into the predicted direction of the wind. If there are no high winds predicted, then it doesn't matter, BUT, they would probably point it in a direction that would do the least amount of damage should the crane support fail, for whatever reason. OR, they might leave it in position over the loading area, so they can begin picking up immediately the next day. .
- Q: I know how to make cranes and I'm pretty fast at doing so but in pictures I see of crane leis the cranes look like they're folded differently so that they can be stacked on top of each other.. Can anyone teach me how to fold like that so that I can make a paper crane lei?
- But I do different from step 11 on Step 11: Normally they fold along the red line. I dont. On step 10 you see the cross line in the center +. I then fold the right pointy toward the center. Do the same for all. Step 12: I the filp the right top layer to the left, same with the back side. Step 13: fold the bottom point to the top(one layer only) filp to back side, do the same. Step 14: flip right layer to the left again, same with the back side. Step 15: Pull and done.
- Q: Today, a crane collapsed on the Grand Mosque in Mecca, killing 87 people. Is God punishing Muslims for 9/11?
- probably just someone screwed up and a crane fell killing a bunch of people.
- Q: I saw da construction of the upcoming tallest building in da world in Dubai, how did da crane get on top of it?
- actually okorder
- Q: I'm trying to workout the best height of a truss for a ship-to-shore container crane project. The crane will have a 65m outreach, 18m center section and 15m backreach. I was thinking in the region of 2m-3m truss height.Any input would be great. Thanks
- Jimmy: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) produces design standards for many types of cranes: see the link below. Many crane owners, licensing and governmental authorities having jurisdiction over cranes require design, fabrication and testing to ASME standards.
- Q: when a skyscraper is done being built, how does the crane come down?
- Most probably you are referring to the Tower Crane. Interesting questions should have followed, like: How is it constructed while the construction is in progress? How is the placement of the Tower Crane determined? What happens to the space occupied by the Tower Craneafter work completion? How far should the 'boom' (the arm that has a moving pulley) go? Anyway, your question is a good one, because when I had my first construction work, the Tower Crane was already there and I was thinking of how to dismantle it afterwards. The dismantling process, is done part by part, set by set starting from the top going down. Another interesting question is: How would that excavating truck or bulldozer be able to get out of that deep matt excavation after all excavation works have been accomplished? It is interesting to note that an earth ramp is created while excavation progress, until the machine is down deep in the excavation and seems that it is impossible for it to get out after excavation work is done?
