Q: Can cement tiles be directly on the cement board? What material is good?
If you want to paste a small area can be directly on the cement board tiles, but to use plastic. If it is a large area must be linked to the net brush paste and then tiling, so that will not crack off after the use of cement mortar.
Q: Is it possible to use a cement board with a small double intermediate compartment?
Yes, the first board for the two-way board, plate thickness for the short span of 1/40 ~ 50, you can use 90 ~ 112.5mm thick
Q: We have an older house (1957) that has 1 thick beams as a substrate floor. Currently, there is 1/2 plywood on top of the substrate floor. We are going to rip this up so that we can apply mortar to the substrate for leveling purposes. We would put the porcelain tile directly on top of the cement board. The guy at Home Depot (a former contractor) said we can just use 1/2 cement board directly on top of the substrate floor without a layer of plywood underneath. The substrate is old, but sturdy real-wood diagonal beams that lay on top of the joists. He said they are plenty strong and we don't really need to add a plywood subfloor if we use 1/2 thick cement board. What do you think? Do you think we could get away will laying down cement board on top of the substrate floor without plywood for added strength? Thanks!
If the diagonal sub floor is solid ( along with the beams) and the beams are 16 oc. The floor boards must tight together as apposed to some that have gaps you can. But to level out the floor with mortar may or may not work. It will depend on how much or how deep you need the mortar. There are other methods you may have to pursue. Mortar or thin set hasn t got a high compression strength so it can only be done to certain depths. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: I'm laying slate tile over linoleum that was installed about 6 months ago....the linoleum is in very good condition, very smooth with no rips or lifting. I've done some research and figured I could put down cement board and then lay the tile on that. The floor under the linoleum is cement. Is there a special drill/special screw necessary to attach the cement board to the cement foundation?
Your best to remove the vinyl but it is a LOT of hard work and truly not needed if it is down tight and no air pockets etc.. No cement board is needed at all . A wasted expense. You really can rough up the vinyl w/ belt sander, and tile over the vinyl w/ proper thin set.. Allow an extra day or two to let the thin set dry since moisture has no where to go.. Make sure your use a damp sponge to wipe off back of slate since the way its cut it leaves a residue on the back ( dusty) that will not let thin set bond properly.. A gauged slate is easy to set just like any tile its the ungauged slate you ll have to be more carefull with.. Seal the slate at LEAST once before installing or thinset and grout may stain or be almost impossible to remove GL
Q: What is the difference between a cement pressure plate and a cement board?
The two main purposes are different, different performance, different components.
Q: The roof of the cement board everywhere cracked, how to do
Construction, the first with the waterproof mortar on the roof will be wiped, dry, the film will be laid in the order of the waterproof cement mortar on the ground, lap with a torch to melt firmly, this waterproof layer on it.
Q: I've already got the cement board down, taking it back up would mean messing with the toilet flange, which means plumbing, and that sucks. Plywood was in pretty good condition. Thanks in advance!
If you don't apply mortar, the tile will shift around, come up, etc. It's best to go ahead and do it right when you are initially laying it therefore saving yourself a costlier repair. Good luck.
Q: What does the glass wire add to the cement?
In the cement board plus glass fiber to improve the flexural strength of compressive strength, will not be easy to break
Q: What do I need when I put my toilet back down so it won't leak now that my toilet is 3/4 of an inch higher?
You'll need a riser piece to add to the drain. Or you could just build the tile up around the toilet and re caulk.
Q: Which is better adhesive or mourter for applying ceramic tile on cement board floor?
Muself, I use mortar for the application. But you will probably get answers each way.
