Q: I was just looking through my better homes and gardens new cookbook and found that the page with fruit cobbler is missing!!! Any one else have the book that could give me the recipe? I'd like the recipe for the peach filled cobbler. I've already looked online. Thanks!!!
4 cups peeled, sliced peaches 2 cups sugar, divided 1/2 cup water 8 tablespoons butter 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour 1 1/2 cups milk Ground cinnamon, optional Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine the peaches, 1 cup sugar, and water in a saucepan and mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat. Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt. Mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping. Pour mixture over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon fruit on top, gently pouring in syrup. Sprinkle top with ground cinnamon, if using. Batter will rise to top during baking. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes. To serve, scoop onto a plate and
Q: If the next doors land is lower than mine, do I measure the wall from my land or next doors.I have also built the wall on my side of the boundary, including footings; does this mean next door can not paint their side of the wall or fix things onto it?
Hi, okorder / Good Luck and Best Wishes.
Q: Hi, wondering how I would go about making a living by gardening, selling seasonal fruits and veggies, selling herbs and sprouts, canned goods like sauerkraut and pickles, possibly mead and wine, eggs, and eventually things like homemade candles and soaps. Is it possible to make a living off of this? What skills would I need to learn (besides the most obvious of gardening, cooking, and creating the products)THANKS!!Also- I am single, and live very modestly. don't have extra things such as a TV, lots of clothing, never go to restaurants, etc.
yes you can. I have been doing so for the past 15+ years. But if you do not have at least an acre of land your will have to invest in land which can be very expensive. Marketing skills are key to being successful along with the ability to keep good records. Home gardening skills will help but will not really prepare your for growing for market. Start small so you are not overwhelmed and know that to make a living you will have to farm at least 3 acres. Also do not get into the trap of trying to provide everything for everyone. This is a sure fire way to get burned out very quickly. Choose something you are good at doing and like to do well enough that you can devote 80+ hours a week to the endeavour. A market garden alone will take well over 45 hours a week of your time. Animals will take about as much time and making things like mead, beer, wine (which you will need a lot of licensing to do this legally), candles etc.. will also take around 40 hours a week. So if you want any kind of life other than being a complete slave to your farm (much less any time to sleep or eat) think about specializing a lot more than what you seem to be thinking
Q: Hi,Ok well I want to start a garden this year and to also have a pond in the garden. Since we have 2 out door dogs were going to put a fence around it. I just want to know what are the best plants for moderate sun. Also we have rabbits and want to know if we can use their manure for fertilizer. Oh and we also want to grow vegetables.
Backyard. Garden's are a private space, I'd hate to have people snooping all the time O_o
Q: I live in an urbanized area so I have a very limited space for backyard gardening. I want to have an access to vegetables that are safe and nutritious, meaning 100% free from chemicals. What can I do? What vegetables can I start growing? Useful links will be appreciated. Thanks! :)
Buy some plant food, ask the Nursery staff what to get. There are all different types. And ask how often you should be feeding and watering the plants. SO once you are all organised get home, plant and wait for everything to grow. It sounds like a lot, but I find it fun and relaxing and so rewarding! Make sure you keep an eye on your plants. Don't forget about them. If they start to not look like they are going that well (e.g. going a funny colour, getting spots, being eaten by something) try and research what is causing this problem on google or at your nursey and you will be about to find a solution. Herbs are a great way to start! Tomatoes and things like spring onions and silverbeet are easy to grow, give them a shot! Good luck :)
Q: i have a vegetable garden in my back yard.which seems to be doing pretty good.until about a week ago i noticed that something is eating the leaves on my plants.the only thing that i see so far is there was this ladybug and a few japanese beetles.how do i stop them from eating my plants?is there a safe homemade pesticide i can make or even buy?
There okorder / Garden Lawn ? Pests, Weeds Problems Some safe(r) purchased insecticides are Bt, or Bacillus thuringiensis (Dipel), diatomaceous earth, Rotenone, Liquid Copper, and Sluggo. One of the most effective controls is vigilance. At least once a day, at varying times, walk through your garden, looking at the underside of leaves, stems, and around the base. Take a can of soapy water with you, and drop any insects you find into it. Keep debris cleared, because many insects like to hide under dead leaves, rocks, etc.. Hope this helps...
Q: I'm thinking about starting a vegetable garden in my backyard....but I have no clue where to start....I've never gardened in my life.....can anyone give me some pointers or recommend a book/website/etc.? Thanks
1. Location to have partial sun 2. Add irrigation system - sprinklers 3. Use good potting soil 4. Add premium osmocote fertilizer 5. Add some mulch to keep moisture 6. Better to do it against a wall, wind protection
