Q: A lot of the mail I get has a plastic window where the recipient's address is shown underneath. Up to this point, I have been tearing out the plastic and throwing just the paper part of the envelope in the recycle. Is that neccessary? To what extent do recycling plants filter what's coming in?
Re plastic windows. NO you cannot leave the windows on. I asked my local authority the same question only a couple of weeks ago and was told to remove them. It's not difficult after all. Regards Bruce.
Q: Most of the windows in our home are pretty drafty. We've been putting up the thin, shrink with a hair dryer Duck plastic in our windows for winter to help with the drafts. I want to make some window quilts for this winter to help, but I'm not sure how to combine them with the plastic, or if we should just use them with out the plastic. Would it be more effective to plastic right around the window, inside of the frame, and then hang the quilt right on top of the plastic, or hang the quilt outside the frame, or just hang the quilt directly on the window with out the plastic?
I lived in a place with this issue too (in New England!) In my opinion, nothing is really as good as the plastic for stopping drafts, ugly as it is. I'd do the plastic as you normally would and then hang the quilt like a big drape in front of it.
Q: on a bmw ragtop
You can purchase 'window tint' that comes in rolls and at several shades from your local auto parts store or detail shop.
Q: I have seen it done both ways.
Inside. You don't want moisture to get in as well as the cold. Make sure their is no gaps. Best to do it on a windy day so you can feel for drafts easier.
Q: There have been news reports that broken glass is falling from condo apartments. They are coming from glass window installments. I want to know if condo buildings ever build their windows with plastic.
Perhaps some would and others would not. Each builder would build a building according to the specifications of the owner and developer. If the plans call for glass normally glass would be used, on the other hand if the plans called for plastic then plastic would be used. Some cities require a certain material to be used in building a building prior to the issuance of a building permit. Some cities require energy efficient windows, therefore the deciding factor as to the type building material has bee determined by the city or county who issue the building permit. I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck. FIGHT ON
Q: What is the U value of the heat shrink plastic window film?
not much, it is primarily used to reflect the sunlight to keep the house cooler in the summer
Q: i bought two white window blinds and then when i got home, i realized the color doesn't go with the color of my wall. black blinds would suit my wall better. so what kind of paint should i buy to color over the plastic surface of the blinds? thank you!
you would have to remove each slat to paint them, as painting them in place will cause the string that moves the blinds back and forth from open to closed to stick to the slats and make the whole thing stop working. I don't know what you paid, but the best course of action would be to return the white ones and buy black. If they don't stock black, you can order them. Way simpler and way more feasible than painting the slats. Even if you had the patience to remove them, paint them and replace them, the chance of keeping the complex string harness in place during that process is pretty unlikely
Q: Have very little budget to work with, paid Marshall Construction of Kalamazoo to do the roof, haven't seen him since (Even with the contract), windows are in really poor condition and need to be replaced but don't have the funds to do it (Lost job like everyone else in Michigan). I have almost a zero budget to do this thanks to people like Marshall construction. Any suggestions how to get this 900 sqft home to stay warm without the furnace always working?
Plastic on the windows really does work.. I lived in a really old house in Ohio and the windows were so bad that you could feel the cold air coming in... We used the window kits and it really kept the heat in ! We also used some plastic opaque sheeting on the outside windows which didn't look too great on the outside but, it helped greatly. Also, in our basement we have a device hooked up to our dryer.. It looks like a standard dryer hose but, instead of blowing all the nice hot air outside it's got a fine mesh screen and it blows the hot air back inside the house.. GREAT for when you are doing laundry. We also use a newer style baseboard heater in our main living room/family room. We bought the heater a few summers ago when it was on clearance..It's very safe and energy efficient. I also use heavy curtains to keep heat in a particular room. We keep our thermostate at around 60-64 degrees.... In our new house it's a 1700 square ft. ranch.. We are fortunate enough to have a wood burning stove.. Which has cut our gas bill in half ! Good luck
Q: Should I insulate just my single pane windows or my new windows as well? Also should I put the plastic on the inside, outside or both? Thanks.
Not outside at all Use the wrap on all windows double panes too cuz it all helps here's how tape the double side tape to the moulding of the window not the window itself or wall because the more air space the better here place wrap on the tape secure so no gaps or airspace use hair dryer to shrink use good stuff foam (have nail polish remover and latex gloves) on half inch or bigger gaps around the house and caulk the rest
Q: recently the plastic window in the back of my 91 mazda miata convertable top tore and iv been looking for where i can buy just the plastic window but i cant find it i can only find buying a brand new top all together but i know the top is made to be able to replace only the plastic so if you know where i can find these please help
