- Q: out of envelopes before you put it in your paper recycles or do you leave it in? This bugs me EVERY week, lol. Who does this and who doesn't . Anyone know how they deal with the plastic. ?
- It IS possible to remove those windows during the recycling process but the process is not foolproof. Staples and other metal are easier to remove from the recycling stream. Remove the windows, if you can, but don't worry about it. Most of the paper will become newsprint, cardboard, or insulation and a bit of contamination is unimportant.
- Q: Can YOUHOOS at Yahoos give me an idea where I can find a sheetof heavy clear/ or even transparent plastic to put over my window thatnot like this cheap garbage I used from Frost King at home depot.. The last stuff came from a roll and was heavy duty and I don't need a roll of it, I'm just drawing a blank here. And this boxed up stuff sold in cheap discount stores really is garbage 1 mil junk.. Oh, and yes, this is their outdoor stuff , not the shrink indoor kit.... The window is about 4 ft x 6 ft..... 1950 era.....(hence the need for plastic ). I've got a few smaller as well... Thank You hoos....
- I am not sure why everyone is saying things like plastic and duct tape! I am sure that would not make for a beautiful awakening and definitely not much of an eye candy from inside or out! Like Carol Q was saying, you can purchase caulking, that is all good. However, you can also purchase rolls of window and door insulation strips. Works great! You can also purchase a spray bottle of foam insulation for your outlets or any cracks that you feel a draft coming from. If your windows are really outdated, you may have to go with plastic OR invest in one window at a time (if ya need) for better/thicker windows. Insulation above your room and around you room in the walls is also very important if you really want the freezing (lol) to end. Good Luck and stay warm!! ( keep your robe, hairdryer, and or electric blanket in bed at all times. lol jk.)
- Q: Does that thin plastic window covering people use during the winter really help any?
- Yes! I leave it on many windows all year 'round. It makes your home quieter also. I also put caulk on the edge of the window frame next to the wall/sheetrock to block out more heat-loss. When you install the plastic, don't initially put the plastic on too tight. Use the hair-dryer to smooth out the wrinkles on the plastic. If your windows get a lot of sun, the heat from the sun will also smooth out the plastic. Before you install the plastic, clean the windows well and use clear caulk at the edge of the window glass and the window frame. Caulking the window first, makes your plastic covering work even better.
- Q: Is it ok to recycle these envelops with other white office paper? Or do they belong to the garbage bin?
- I asked our recycling guy a year ago, and he said it's just fine to leave the windows in.
- Q: how do you change the plastic rear window in a miata?
- You can find directions on this at OKorder
- Q: My windows seem to be extra drafty this year... It seems like one of them is open, but I can't find anything wrong with them. Anyhow, my heat is kicking on like every 15 minutes! I don't wanna get a $300 gas bill every month till winter is over... I'm thinking about putting plastic up on the windows --- How do I do this? What do I use?It seems so ghetto, but oh well.I live in an apartment building too btw..
- I have the same problem, they make a product that is a shrink wrap for windows, you put it up and hit it with a hair dryer and it shrinks to fit with no tape or tape marks later. You can find this stuff and Lowes Home Depot or your local hardware store. We use it every year in hour house and rentals Also it is totally transparent, you won't even notice
- Q: I'm about to move into an apartment room that I have been warned gets very cold in the winter (I live in MN). However, the person telling me this also mentioned that the windows had not been plastic wrapped the previous winter. In her opinion, however, plastic wrapping the windows would do no good because according to her quot;you can actually feel the cold coming up through the floor.quot; I think it's possible though that what she felt coming in through the floor was actually the drafts from the window sinking to the ground and spreading. Would plastic wrapping my windows eliminate this problem? Or would the room still be cold/I should request a different one? Thanks
- The glass itself? No. It needs an air barrier between the plastic and the window.. So basically you put plastic on the sill and walls, covering the window over all, and yes, that does work. I do it on my bathroom window during winter. Because it gets freekin' cold. Nobody likes taking a hot shower, then walking out of it nude in to Antarctica..
- Q: Is there a way you can tint flexible plastic windows in a convertible car?
- The best bet is to remove the existing plastic window and replace with material that is factory tinted.
- Q: I want to install low-E plastic film on my window. I'm a do-it-yourself and I want it to be revesible for summer and winter to ensure I save the more energy. I also want something transparent. Thanks
- One of the cheapest places to get it if you can do it yourself is at Lowe's. They sell a large variety of tint with different shades and performance for windows and doors you can custom cut. If you are trying to save energy, they have a heat reflective film that I believe is up to 90% heat reflexive. It is in transparent and mirrored coatings. If you plan on removing it, make sure you get the static cling style and you can remove it and reuse it against next season because there isn't any adhedsives left on the film or glass. Make sure you really wet the glass and film on installation. Good luck!
- Q: well i have a 1992 alfa romeo spider and some idiots sliced the back of the convertible on my plastic window. i was wondering how much it would cost if i send it to a shop and they sew off the old plastic window and sew back on a new plastic window
- they can do it --they have to remove the top-remove the stitching from old window and remove window-sew in window- replace top on car--this is NOT cheap but still cheaper than new top=--look for about 400 buck charge--shop all the auto upholstery shops in your area first--talk to your friends -talk to people in auto industry that have used any shops--you are naturally looking for someone that can do the job and do it efficiently and correctly- and at the lowest price==most shops operate on the cheap, good, fast idea--you can have any 2 of these statements--cheap and good not fast--you get the idea
