Q: Have any of you had a newer Kirby vacuum cleaner (the one the representatives say cleans all the way to the bare floor) and could you compare it's performance to other quot;storebrands? I'm not really interested in value (I know they are terribly expensive) but want to know if they really do clean as advertised. I moved into a new house with some dirty carpets and a friend of mine offered to let me borrow her Kirby vacuum cleaner with built in carpet shampooer and I want to know how well it will clean. Is the shampooer equal to one I could rent at Wal-Mart or another store? Thanks for the help!: I have a Kirby that is 18 months old and a Dyson that is about 2 years old. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats that shed like crazy. I use the Dyson first (which doesn't clog) which does a great job picking up the hair and then deep clean with the Kirby. I have bad allergies, and using the vacuums this way, I save a fortune on bags for the Kirby and get up far more dust mite droppings than I would otherwise. I thought the Kirby did a pretty good job with its dry foam carpet cleaner, but I also use steam and chemicals for some areas.

Q: I'm a guy who isn't extremely familiar with vacuum cleaners so maybe someone can help. I was running around the house with my Kenmore Progressive vacuum cleaner and I accidentally pushed the adjustable thingy that lets you set the height of the vacuum. This adjuster thing is about halfway down the silver tube. The second I touched it, the carpet cleaning part shut off so it's just sucking air. I pushed everything together as hard as I could trying to get it to come back on but with no luck. I had been vacuuming for quite a while. Do these things shut off when they get too hot and stay off until they cool? It seems kind of fishy that it died right when i touched the adjuster thing though. Any ideas?: sounds like you may have broken your belt when you adjusted the height. turn it over and turn it on, if the brush doesn't spin, you have to take the stupid thing apart and change the belt. this is the most common problem that people have with vacuums.

I know a kirby is good but I dont have tht kind of money.: i was just gunna answer ur ? then i seen the details...lol i was gunna say a kirby.....i have that one it works great and its more than just a vacuum....but other than that i would say one of the ones u see on tv....i had one it worked good but i just dont remember the name of it all i know is its on commercials and with an old guy. haha

Q: I have a 700 square foot apartment with carpeting and a cat...: Vacuums are like cars everyone will have a favorite. Dyson is most likely the most expensive. as far as the best they all have their good points after years of use where I work we ended up with a sears vacuum (link below) it works very well it is under $80 so we can replace it as necessary we have used commercial vacuums at $800 each and the sears cleans just as well . We get about 18 months use out of these and about 5 years out of the commercial vacs our vacs are in actual use about 7 hours a day (we have a 24 -7 operation) I have one of the sears at my house have had it for 4 years still working just fine. My suggestion to you is to go to sears and compare the different vacs they have all brands. Pick the one that you like the best. they all have a different feel you might not like one because it feels heavy or too light, hard to push, awkward attachments etc. Good luck on your decision

Q: My moms friend offered to give me some work here and there since I cant find a job. He has his own business of cleaning large businesses. He called me and told me he could use my help vacuuming the ceiling at a grocery store.
