Then loosen the 2 nuts under the sink on each end of the trap and remove it. There is a little water in the trap to prevent sewage gases from coming back into the home so be careful not to spill it after it is removed. Then simply dump it into a bowl or bucket and reassemble in reverse order that it was taken apart after cleaning out any "gunk" you might see inside the drain.

This may happen from time to time due to a small crack or other weakness. To fix it you need porcelain cement (found in any hardware store). Cement the pieces back together and let it dry. Then he can try to clean the cartridge out or evaluate the condition of the washer on the stem if it isn't a cartridge. Assuming the water came out full force when the cartridge/stem was removed it is resolved by cleaning or replacing. If no water came out, it is time to work your way back down the plumbing system to see that everything is turned on. Once you have eliminated everything you can, it will then make sense to call a plumber if the hot water still doesn't work.
