Polished Porcelain Tile ST28601

Q: We are looking to buy a house and we‘re choosing between tile and hardwood floor. I prefer hardwood because I feel its easier to clean and more comfortable. Husband prefers the tile. Is it just personal preference or is one better than another, cleaning wise.
cleaning hardwood floors or tile will more than likely be the same, cleaning wise. My personal preference is hardwood. They do have to be cleaned alot and you can feel any speck of dirt on them. I have tile floors in my kitchen and it is the same way. Sorry I don't believe this helps. compromise get both, my house has hardwood floors throughout and then in the kitchen and bathroom we have tile.
Q: I am installing 13x13 porcelain tile on a wall. Should I leave a 1/4‘‘ gap for grout or can I butt them up tight for a smaller grout line?
You can buy very narrow spacers (1/8) and use unsanded grout. Close spacing (to me) looks better on a wall and floor. You have to use unsanded grout because regular grout can't be pushed between the tiles. You must leave a gap between the tiles - it's the grout that keeps water from getting behind the tiles.
Q: my boss wants to remove floor tiles and stain the cement floor underneath the tile, what is a easy way to remove the old tile
Tile Glue Removal
Q: What purpose does it serve? Is it safe to assume the tile will settle half of the trowel thickness? For example, if using a 1/4 inch trowel, will the tile settle 1/8 inch when set in place? Thanks for any help/advice!
The trowel is used to spread the thinset, and even it out to a uniform thickness.
Q: We have a hardwood floor in our bathroom, and because it gets too damp, we want to install vinyl tiles on top of the hardwood floor. But I cannot imagine vinyl sticking to wood - can it be done successfully? Any glue tips??
instead of putting vinyl stick on tiles over your hardwood why not try putting a coat or 2 of marine varnish.it will protect it through anything .because stick on tiles are placed side by side there's always a slight gap that water can penetrate causing the wood below to mildew, mold and eventually rot below as well as the vinyl tiles to lift then you'll have a much larger problem .
Q: My house is 55 years old. They had vinyl floring in the bathroom. We wanted to replce the flooring but when we hauled up the vinyl, theres 2inch ceremic tiles underneath. I think the vinyl was glued down because the tiles are a mess. We bought some vinyl flooring to put back down. Whats the best way to do this? We were going to but 1/4 round but now the floors are tile underenath, and the walls are tile as well so we can‘t nail it in.
Clean the tiles and make sure the surface is completely smooth, laying tile over tile is actually an ideal surface, if you're not at bare wall. Use flooring adhesive, if the tiles you bought are glueless - then use a sealer, reapply once a year or whatever the sealer recommends for reapplication. You can always tile subfloor panels and lay that directly over the tile that's already there - glue (with construction adhesive)or nail the subfloor down. But that's an extra expensive for the subflooring.
Q: Dont want to lay down the rock. Want to attach strait to the plywood due to dish washer stove and cabinets. What is the best way for long lasting tile strait to plywood?
The function of the Durock is to provide a mechanically attached transition from wood to tile. Without it, ceramic or porcelain tile will crack from the movement of the wood subfloor. You can do it right or do it over. It's your call.
Q: Do I need to remove the existing 1 ceramic tiles in the shower stall, or can I apply the new 8 ceramic tiles right on top of the old ones? The sides are drywall, but the floor of the stall has 1 tiles that look like a pain to remove.
First off, I would not put 8 ceramic tiles in a shower. (Unless you have a huge shower that can support 15 people or more, and even then, they use the 'one inch' squares... 8' tiles are not meant for showers. They are meant for applications of flooring, outside the tub or shower. (You cant slope them as needed for a shower or hot tub as the one inch ones). Also, I would never lay them down, for fear of cracking them! The small tiles can expand and contract, with the different heat of the water, while the large ones will not. They will be laying on a base of something that 'IS still expanding and contracting, even if you could clean the tiles off, sufficiently enough, (with an acid product), to remove all the soap and grime and grease and all the matter so that the mastic will stick to the individual tiles... Now, you could take the one inch tiles off, (they are laid down in rows, of either 6X6 or 12X12 inch sections, I forget which it is now...sorry). Get a cold chisel and some goggles and knee pads and go to work, chipping the tiles up... (once you get a few, they wll start to pop up real quick like). Then, try and bust out as much grout as you can, and even use a grinder if you need to, to get the rest, but, have your exhaust fan going in the bath room, and a fan blowing to give fresh air...possibly a window open and a fan blowing out, to carry the dust out...also a good respirator, so you dont get the dust into your lungs! I wish you well Jesse
Q: The tile is blue and white and are each about 3x3 inches wide? Can you lay new tile over the top or paint it?
Screw 1/4 plywood over the tile and apply the mosaic over that....
Q: We have a two sink bathroom set up would like to replace the counter-top with a homemade tile counter-top - we are pretty handy but have not dealt with tile before - and before I ask my dad for help I thought why not check out yahoo answers. Thanks! :)
Just did this recently. We used a half inch of high grade plywood for the base sheet, then on top of that a half inch sheet of backerboard. Adhere the plywood to the vanity with a liquid nails as well as actual nails. Adhere the backerboard to the plywood with thinset and hardibacker screws. Obviously you'll need to cut out the sinkholes in both. After that, you're ready to tile. Use the smallest groutlines as possible for a countertop, in my opinion. Be sure to seal the tile when you're done. I know how to tile, but I despise it (especially some of the intricate stuff involved in countertops), so I just hired the tiling done.
We have a lot of experiences about manufacture and sales service, and already been to a modernized enterprise which with professional and high active service to offer all kinds of building materials. The main produces are polished tiles and rustic tiles, such as soluble salt, homogenous, double loading, crystal double loading, full crystal double loading and some newest designs for crystal double loading.
