Q: What‘s the average cost to install tile baseboards? I‘m replacing my wooden baseboards with tile and was just wondering what an average price to just do the baseboards with tile. I have roughly 1500 inches of floorboard that is going to be done and I am looking to use 20 X 20 inch tile. No bullnoseing or anything special, just cut the tile and install. Thanks
Michael G makes a good point. If it was me, the price would be more like $750+, because I'd have to cut the tile, and do layout, apply it, then grout it. the top edge grout is a real pain, and poses the biggest challenge to get it right. Most customers always seem to find fault in that one issue. Of course, If I was doing the whole job instead of just the base tile, that price would be more reasonable, being factored in with the overall job. a Comment to the other poster: A lot of people prefer tile base to wood/paper (most base is hard paper nowadays), simply because of water or liquid spills that can affect drywall and baseboards. by using a tile base, this makes the wall less likely to suffer as much damage as could occur without it in place. Besides, most tile bases compliment the tile floor job, and colors. Likewise, I get a lot of callbacks because customers, after looking at tile base for a while, want me to come back in and set tiles up the wall, which means less wall maintenance issues, no need to paint, mold is less likely to form and become an issue, and people sitting in a chair with the heads against the wall is less likely to smudge it, as well as kid issues with markers and crayons.
Q: Ceramic tile a square with how much, how to buy ceramic tile, the price is how much
First need to see how flat the base surface? If the base surface roughness in plus or minus 5 mm, then the consumption of about 6 kg or so. If the base flatness in the plus or minus 10 mm or so, then the consumption of about 8 kg or so. General standard ceramic tile price of about 40 yuan a pack (20 kg), the strength of the price of ceramic tile around 55 a pack (20 kg).
Q: I am redoing my bathroom floor and I am going to use stick on tiles how do I put them on? Do you just stick them on the
Make sure the floor is clean and all the old glue from previous installations has been removed. Pop a chalk mark from opposing walls so they cross in the center of the room. Start at the center and work towards the walls so that everything looks even all the way around when you're finished. If the tiles have lines or a pattern running in one direction then turn every other tile 90 degrees or it will look wavery. To help the tiles stick, stack them up and let an electric heater blow on them for 30 minutes prior to starting installation. Warm tiles are a lot easier to lay and get butted up without cracks between them.
Q: I would like to know what steps to take to prepare the concrete floor for ceramic tile. Part of the floor is cement and part is painted. Do I have to prepare the painted portion before tiling?
I tile every day of my life and since the paint is assumed to be part of some aesthetic over concrete, you can scuff it with a wire brush, belt sander, grinder, cleaning all debris. Beyond that, concrete, unless sealed, is a prime substrate for tile/mortar. Certainly you should check for level, as in depressions or any rise, then proceed as is standard Measure snap two perpendicular center lines adjust those lines for cuts and the least waste work from deep in to an exit point test level with a level or hand use a 1/4 in. toothed rectangular trowel to spread mortar use a poly based mortar use rubber spacers at 1/4 or 1/8 inch do not press aggressively save cuts and cut installs for last and do not attempt to kneel on tiles installed to add a piece missed perhaps remove cove base if it exists to replace later wait no less than 24 hours for dry/set time use Poly blend grout of you choice in color mix both mortar and grout to mashed potato consistency fill grout spaces after removing spacers use a rectangular rubberized spreader/squeegie wipe with a barely damp sponge first time then in 2 or 3 re-wipes as the grout sets you can increase dampness (grout sets faster than mortar) by the third wipe of grout excess you should be ok and notice upon drying a DUST that can easily be mopped away after the fact. allow 24 hrs for grout dry/set If you have a pedestal sink, pull it. Pull the toilet as well Tile to the sewage drain flange and replace with a new wax ring with a rubber flange extender embedded. Mop clean after two days and enjoy Steven Wolf Just my two sense
Q: Does anyone know if I can lay ciramic tile over the dull worn out linoleum floor in my kitchen? I don‘t want to peel up the linolium because of the insane amount of labor it will take, and make the sub floor un even. any suggestions? Will tiles still stick to this material? Thanks!
I've laid tile over some things that some people would not recommend and it worked fine, but I don't think I would do it over linoleum. However, if you do try it, I wouldn't buy anything too expensive, tile wise. You'll want to scuff the linoleum up really well, make sure it is 100% clean, and use the best thinset you can find.
Q: Only whole tiles are used. How many tiles are neither diagonal tiles nor edge tiles?
If there are 121 tiles and both tiles and floor are square, this means there are 11 by 11 tile used on the floor (square root of 121 is 11) So if we exclude the edges, this means we have 9 by 9 tiles And there are 9 tiles on each diagonal but the one in the center is shared so we have total of 9+9-1=17 tiles on diagonals of this inner tiles with 9 by 9 So for 9 by 9 tiles we have 9x9=81 tiles and excluding 17 tiles on diagonals; the answer is 81-17=64 tiles.
Q: I need to know the quality of all different kinds of tiles. Please name the tile and the list or features of it so I can see which tile has the best and worst quality! THANK YOU!
Ok,I'm not sure exactly what your going for.. there's stone tiles like marble and travertine pieces which are rather pricey or you can choose on getting a ceramic tile which there are many arrays of colors. There's the ceramic tile itself made from a red-clay backing... that has various grades called PEI Levels: 1-5 ... 5 Being the best.. Italian and Spanish Tiles are the best. And my recommendation is to get yourself a porcelain tile. Which has a cream colored backing almost as the exact color prints in the front of the tile. In case of anything falling and chipping the tile, porcelain does a better job and is not as noticeable, as where the red clay backing tile (ceramic) will chip and you'll see the red. The best way to tell as to how good a choice you've made is to carry one, if it's heavy it's good stuff...oh and be careful to not get it too slippery or too rough that dirt easily clings to it. If it's a new construction home, for installation get some kind of slab crack isolation system as (PRP) it's the best against any kind of stress cracks in the slabs of new homes..And always keep at least 3 boxes of extra tille for future repairs, tiles easily get discontinued and you will never get the same one again. Hope this helps!
Q: I have installed tile around my shower and and ready to fill in the gaps between the tile. Grouting looks messy and I don‘t know how to do it. Is there a grout that comes in a tube that can be put into a caulk gun? Can I just caulk the whole thing? This one is new to me so any help is appreciated!!!
Grout is very easy to apply, especially if you use the tiny spacer blocks between the tiles to get the grout lines even. It is messy, but the extra wipes up cleanly with a sponge and water. Caulk is used between the bottom of the tile and the top of the tub because it's flexible and moves when the tub is filled. A solid hard grout line would break.
Q: How easy is it to tile a kitchen floor. Plus would you lay the tiles directly onto the concrete sub floor or lay concrete boards or chipboards underneath. I would also like to continue this to the hallway and under stairs. Thanks.
You do want to lay it directly on the slab. And treat the slab accordingly depending on the shape of the slab. Cracks need to be treated ( several ways to do this) and any dips or highs dealt with ( if any). The basic work is easy its the hauling of the tile and the thin set bags thats the hardest. Common sense and basic DIY skills is all thats needed. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: I‘m getting some of my house tiled and would like to know if I am getting ripped off or not. It is going to be approximalte 600 sq ft with 2 upstairs bathrooms. The installer gave me a quote of $2400 to lay the tile (straight or diagonal, whichever I want). I will have to buy the tile and other materials on my own. The tile is going to be 18x18. The price includes ripping out the carpet and ripping out the tile that is already in the kitchen that will be replaced as well as the tile in the upstairs baths. Also included will be haul away of all the trash. Is this a good price or not?
Normal price to just install tile and porcelain is no different to install, will range from 4/6 $ a s/f.. So he/ she is doing all the rip out / disposal and prep work for basically free.. If they do check out w/ their references and have all insurances.Liability and workmans comp, then you may well go for it.. Times are slow now and they may very well be cutting you a deal to get a good job. Any questions you have on how he/ she is doing it ( as far as what materials and such so you know their not cutting corners) you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
