- Q:self stick floor tile, vapor barrier
- I just replaced the bulk of my mobile home flooring with 12x12 self stick tile from Fred's.... 1. Take off the old flooring (Carpet or tile.) and get it back to bare wood (Plywood)..... 2. Repair any bad sections of old plywood... 3. Level any joints between patches and any nail heads (I use drywall screws...A lot better hold and faster to put in when using a drill.)... Also the best patching material is Bondo...The wood filler takes forever to dry and will not form a Strong surface...Bondo drys to HARD plastic within 15 minutes...And is very easy to sand or form with a Bondo file... Be sure that everything is smooth or any hail heads or depressions will show under the tile later on... (Bondo also hold up better in wet areas like the bathroom) Pop a chalk line down the center of the room and start putting the tile down from this center line...Its not as noticeable to have something slightly off along the wall line as it it in the center of the room...Also when you get to the walls or in those little tight areas you will want to measure and cut some of the tiles....To do this you need to measure where the tile is to be cut (Remember the arrow direction) then lay the tile over an old piece of tile (So you dont cut the good flooring) and using a steel straight edge and a knife scribe a line...Then bend the tile along the line and it will break cleanly along the line.. Pay attention to the arrows on the back of the tile and always point them toward the same direction... This makes the pattern come out right... The glue on the tiles will hold them in place if the floor surface is clean and dry... If the energy blanket under the home is gone it will still take YEARS to do any damage to the new plywood floor that you replaced...
- Q:Am I able to Lay down Ceramic/Porcelain Tiles directly on top of vinyl tiles. If So are there special material that I need to use.Even though the floor is in the basement, it seems that the vinyl is laid over wood, rather than concerete. Thanks for your answer.
- After installing thousands of sq. ft. of tile I'll answer YES to the specific Q,,, however I'd never put my name on the job. Given that the customer is always right,,, even when they aren't,,, I'd refuse to take the job under those conditions. The vinyl is an easy tear out really,,, and well worth the time and energy. The substrate may be wood, allowing that vinyl,,,especially self stick,,, wouldn't,,, on concrete. Vinyl by its nature isn't porous/absorbent, and will not strictly accept adherance by thin set, used to install ceramic tile. Certainly another way to achieve what you want is add substrate over the existing floor,,, using concrete backer board, then tiling over that. No offense but you don't state any experience of skill in the area you question. It's not Rocket Science, but any decent, long lasting job takes some knowledge and skill. Rev. Steven
- Q:What is the use of ceramic tile?
- More than 4 can lead to the sizing after sizing. In the construction of trimming when careful not to squeeze too much, or easily lead to foam foam rod deformation, then the foam rod will gradually recover, resulting in the overall sealant muster; construction within the scope of the construction to extend the correction time, Operation, the use of scraper from the bottom of the seam up to trim, to avoid curing the strip surface is uneven and a small amount of sagging; due to the different types of profiles on the market, it is recommended that customers in the use of each batch of plastic products before their own simple Of the adhesive test, in recognition of product quality can be widely used, which is to ensure the quality of the project at the same time also protect their own interests. Tile glue a lot of advantages, relative to the traditional materials such as cement in terms of advanced technology, saving material consumption, to ensure the quality of the project and conducive to environmental protection, is a good choice in the housing decoration. But this does not mean that tiles are the best choice for all people, on the one hand the current market tile unit cost is higher than the cement, on the other hand also take into account the construction process, its construction technology requirements than Cement should be high, if the use of ceramic tiles improper, the effect will be greatly discounted. So we choose to use cement or magnetic glue must be based on their actual situation to choose the best products for the better. Learn more about tile information click on id
- Q:I just mortared some very porous tiles down and i‘m ready to grout. I‘ve used these tiles before and noticed it‘s pretty tough to get the haze to go away. Should i pre-seal the tile before grouting? if so, what brand or name? Also, do i still use a grout haze remover if needed? And lastly what is your recommended tile sealer to finish the job?
- Yes, yes, yes! Porous tile, natural stone, etc., needs to be sealed prior to grouting. If this tile has a smooth or shiny finish, you need to use unsanded grout so you don't scratch it. They sell commercial cleaner but vinegar and water will take the haze off in most cases. Everyone has their own preferences on sealer, but they're all about the same. Your consideration should be whether you want a shiny or dull finish. Remember, the shiny finish will be slicker when wet than the dull finish.
- Q:Meaning, I was just wondering if you can lay a thin set of mortar then place vinyl tiles on it, and then grout it? This mabye a stupid question and most people would say why not just use real tile if your going to go through all that trouble, but just wondering?.Thanks
- Vinyl tile you use glue. Some have the glue adhesive on the back, some you have to put the glue down your self with a 1/8 or 3/16 trowel. And like the other person stated they are very thin, meaning if you did try and set them in mortar and one little piece of mortar didn't mix good after a few weeks of use and maybe not that long that will create a lump and eventually ware through your vinyl. Don't even think about being able to grout. Now I have used glue with ceramic tile in certain cases. I don't recommend that either though. I use liquid nails or a pl 400 type glue in a tube to do risers on a stairway but the treads I used mortar. If you go to Home depot or Lowe's and pick out what type of flooring they should be able to lead you in the right direction on the glue vs mortar. good luck. you can do it
- Q:What is the probability that the two faulty tiles share an edge?
- Break down the titles into 3 categories: - Corner tiles (there are 4) - Outer tiles that aren't corner tiles (there are 6*4=24) - The rest, on the inside (there are 6*6 = 36) If a tile is on a corner, there are only 2 possible other squares in the grid that it can share an edge with. If the tile is in the second category, there are 3. And if the tile is somewhere in the middle, there are 4 neighboring tiles it could share an edge with. The total probability that two random tiles share an edge is: ( P(tile is a corner tile)*(2/63) + P(tile is on end)*(3/63) + P(tile is in middle)*(4/63) ) / 2. We have to divide by 2 because we're counting each pair twice. So this is: ((4/64)(2/63) + (24/64)(3/63) + (36/64)(4/63)) / 2 = (8 + 72 + 144) / 2(64*63) = 112/4032 = 0.027777... EDIT: Right after I first posted this I noticed that the user above me got the same answer unsing a different method. I like his method better, but it would seem to be that the total number of unique pairs on the grid is not 64*63, but 64*63/2 because there are two different ways you can pick tiles to make the same pair (depends on which order you pick them in). So maybe the answer is 112 / 2016 and I missed something in my reasoning!
- Q:okay so im a dancer, but i never really bothered to try tap. but since this year the company im on says i have to. I bought my shoes yesterday and i have to practice like crazy in two days because that when i start.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::MAIN POINT!but i noticed the tile in my house is uneven like some of the corners and the sides come up and and really pointy(and sharp). IS IT BAD TO TAP ON UNEVEN TILE??WILL IT MESS UP MY TAP SHOES?
- Yes it is bad to tap on tile period! It can ruin the tile floor and damage your shoes. Tile is a very slippery surface too when exposed to metal taps (especially Tel Tones). You don't want to fall and injure yourself. If I were you, I would stop by home depot or a similar store and get a square sheet of plywood to dance on. If you aren't able to do that, you can step outside on even concrete (not concrete with jagged edges, smooth concrete) and that will help create traction, and give you a nice tap sound quality. Best of luck and be careful!
- Q:How is oriental Paul tiles?
- 4 test weight The same size of the floor tiles, the greater the weight, the better the quality, which is a relatively simple and rugged and effective selection method. Good quality tiles (800mm * 800mm) a pack of three, not a regular exercise of adult men is difficult to move up alone. (I belong to the type of extreme lack of exercise, two Nobel 800mm * 800mm tiles I can not move a person) Weight reference: a 800mm * 800mm tile about 30 pounds to 40 pounds, a 600mm * 600mm tile about 12 pounds to 18 pounds, a 300mm * 300mm tile about 3 pounds to 5 pounds. 5 listen to the sound With a hard object (such as carrying the key) flick, the sound more crisp, the higher the degree of porcelain, the better the quality. You can also use the fingers to clamp the corner of the tile, so that the tiles hanging down, with the other hand flick the lower tiles, the more clear the sound, the better the quality. This method may be more virtual, we should listen to a few pieces of different price tiles in order to have the ability to accurately determine. 6 to see the water absorption In the back of the tiles, watching the water spread after the speed of water, in general, the slower the water, indicating that the greater the density of tiles, the better the quality. Tiles should not absorb water, if the tiles to absorb water, and from the front to see the water stains, that shows the quality is poor, do not buy. Wall is a certain degree of water absorption, it is difficult to use this method to test, but now the wall and floor tiles are basically supporting the sale of tiles qualified, wall is also no big problem. Poor quality of the tiles on the back of a larger water absorption
- Q:I don‘t want to rent a wet saw for just a few pieces of tile. And I certainly don‘t need to buy one. Do some places offer this service if so where. Thanks
- difficult situation seek on to google or bing it can assist
- Q:I need to repair my shower, about 6 tiles fell off. I‘m currently drying the drywall with a fan. Whats the best way to glue tile back on the wall?
- First of all I would look at the wall behind where the tile has came off. If your house is old or installation was poor they may not have the proper material behind the tile, as in the wall. If it is sheetrock, no wonder! You need either greenboard or dur-rock behind it that is the code. Anyways, once you find this out see if it's only sheetrock behind it, it won't do you any good to stick em back up. Which if the material behind is fine than just get some match stick at home depot that's cheap but creates a nasty mess. Or grab a small bag of thinset which you mix with water or some will require an extra additive which will be where ever you go for the thin set. You can get this stuff at Home Depot or Lowes while your there I 'd grab a trowel with 3/8 knotch spacers and your grout. Hopefully all of the peices were full peices. If not your gonna have to borrow a hand held maquita or cutter or saw. Make sure your rows with trowel are even with through out your spread. If you are using thinset, you have to apply thinset to wall and tile. Obviously you stick the tile first grab some sort of extra scrap to spread them appropriately. Wait a day for the thinset to set up and the next day pull out your wedges or spacers and grout. Good luck. Chic
