- Q: i just bought this house and my kitchen floor tile is all cracked it was put on a wood serfice. i need a quick fix because redoing the whole kitchen needs doing but is not in my bugit at this time. can i cover it with linoleum with out it also cracking before i can remodle?.
- Sure. Lino does not crack(unless you give it 50 years of aging) But the lino on a roll is the best route to go. Not tile squares so much(you can do it that way but it is a bother).
- Q: Can u burn tiles?
- You can but it produces a smelly black smoke so you might check with your local fire dept for local laws and possible burn bans.
- Q: We just bought a house and the bathroom tile looks terrible. Its not in bad shape, I just dont like the ugly floral pattern. Since we had to spend a lot of money on other projects in the house we dont have a lot to spend on re-tiling, The bathroom is small, about 5ftx4ft of floor, so I thought peelstick would be a good option. The tiles currently on the floor are peel and stick, should I remove them all before I apply the new ones? or can I just give them a good cleaning and lay the new tiles over them?
- Removing the old ones is the correct way to go. Of course if this room doesn't receive much traffic, it would probably be ok to stick the new ones over the old ones. If you remove the old ones. Use an iron over wax paper on each tile to heat the glue up to remove. Then you will have to put a skim coat down to create new clean surface for the tiles to adhere to.
- Q: How can I remove ceramic tiles from a bathroom wall without damage the wall itself, as I want to paint the wall. Would steam help loosen the glue used?
- You need to plan that replacing some drywall is inevitable. I've installed thousands of sq. ft. of tile, and unless your bathroom walls are plywood, or concrete backer board, the act of tile removal will tear at the drywall in the removal process. Tile mortar (Quickset) is designed to bond Usually forever, and in that bonding it isn't going to just fall off at a touch,,,unless the wall behind it is already degraded. One option is to remove by scraping,,,STEAM will not work, though might further damage drywall. After scraping, rough sand as smooth as possible, and install new drywall over old. Then finish. Rev. Steven
- Q: I have tiles around all of my kitchen and would like to cover them. Can I skim plaster over them because it would take weeks to remove them? Is there any other way round avoiding removing them? Any ideas welcome. They are driving me up the wall, literally! HELP.
- Hi Neil There is tile paint on the market if it is only the colour you donot like. It maybe possible to fix plaster board over them and then plaster but check with a builder. Sarah Cox
- Q: How hard is this? Is this someone with 0 experience do? I wanna remove my girlfriends jacked up rug and install tile since she has two puppies. What do you guys recommend?
- Easy, put down the peel stick tiles. Pull up your carpet and vaccum the floor, peel and stick. . I would seal the sub floor with Bins or a urethane or shellac to prevent the piss smell from getting in the floor and if it already has happened this will keep the smell concealed somewhat but on those hot humid days the smell of urine will be there. Good luck Les the painter. Had to do this for my sons house when he 1st bought it prior to laying the carpet, preveious owners had cats
- Q: after grouting a new tile floor (about 400 sq ft) and several moppings the finish is still somewhat dull. how do i clean the tile to bring back a nice glossy finish? Thanks
- A old terri cloth towel dusting the tile and doing the tile dry. If you need a bit stronger use a white nylon scrub pad called a doodlebug pad. Most every tile place will have these. If that doesn t work , then go to the grout haze and effervescent remover ( sold as one multi use product) 8/9$ an 8 oz concentrate Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar...GL
- Q: i have just put down adhesive floor tiles in my bathroom, do i now need to use an extra sealant/pvc wash to seal the joins between the tiles as my kids enjoy splashing in the bath and i dont want the floor ( pvc sealed boards ) to lift if water gets in the gaps?
- Sure, if you have gaps i recommend sealing the joints. If the joints are just seams you should be fine, and won't need to seal.
- Q: I want to install vinyl over a tile floor. What procedures should I take? What adhesive? What prep on the ceramic?
- Removing the tile is the best way but to answer your ? you ll have to make sure tile is down tight and no loose grout.. An indication tile is loose.. If all s tight 1st clean and strip tile of all grease and sealers etc.. Now you ll have to flat trowel on an embossing leveler to get rid of all the grout line seams so it won t telescope and show thru.. And it still may so thats a chance you take.. Use the glue that is recommended from the manufacture of the type of vinyl you get.. GL
- Q: I‘m having linoleum put in my kitchen and I‘m want to prep the floor. We already tore the carpet up and we weren‘t sure if we should clean the carpet adhesive off the ceramic tiles, or remove the tiles from the concrete.
- You are better off ripping out the tiles first. If you really want to lay the hardwood over the tiles, first lay down 3/4 plywood so you have something to staple the new floor to. The ply is glued down with PL, and then screwed into the tiles/sub floor. You will need to pre drill with a masonary bit, and screw in every 12 inches. Seems like more work than ripping the tiles out. And adds an extra 3/4 + tile height + hardwood - how will that transition to other rooms for other information you can check my source site
