Q: no power to brown trailer wire: press the pedal to the metal.

Q: I'm trying to use a stereo wire instead of a mono wire for an output from a circuit I've built. The problem is, the gold wire has been cut too short, and I'd rather not strip it back any further since I don't have a lot of cord to work with. Since there are three wires (red, white, gold - ground) can I use either the red or the white as output, and the remaining color for ground, or do I have to use the gold cable for the ground and let the remaining wire dangle (taped)?Thanks: The gold wire is actually copper. It is braided and surrounds the red and white wires. It not only forms the common return for both the other wires, it is also a screen which eliminates unwanted pick up. The right channel signal appears between the red wire and the sceeen and the left channel signal appears between the white wire and the screen - which is usually grounded. If you use the red and white wires on their own you will probably get pick up on them. The screen really is necessary. If you have access to the screen at only one end (it sounds as if you might) then connecting the screen to whichever wire you choose to be grounded might be sufficient.

Q: In that chart it has 2 sections, one is maximum amps for chassis wiring and the other is maximum amps for power transmission. What is considered chassis wiring and what is considered power transmission?: Chassis Wiring

Q: I wanted to ask, im busy installing a new stereo headset for my car,when i replaced the old stereo with the new one, i used the wire harness from the old stereo and joint the wires to the back of new the stereo (which there is another black adapter that goes in the wire harness area on the the new stereo) i did this by connecting the wires from the stereo adapter to the wire harness that connects to the car, although the adapter that connects to the stereo has more wires than the wire harness that connects to the car,( i only connected the wires that were matching such as grey wire to grey wire, grey wire with black strip to grey wire with black strip, and so on, i obviously didn't connect the colours that didn't match to the wire harness wires, although i looked up online and apparently the yellow wire is a power wire, but i don't know where to connect it......if anyone could help, this would be greatly appreciated , i also wanted to ask, would this solve the problem if i buy a new wire harness? Thanks: What kind of car is it? That's important, especially if it's a foreign make because those wires are so weird colored. Typically, yellow or ornage is power, red is memory, and the purple, gray, white, green wires are for the speakers .Black or brown wires are ground. Any blue wires you might come across are mainly just auxiliary signal wires that go to an aftermarket amp and subwoofer setup. Unless you have something like that, those wires can be taped off and forgotten about. Also, when wiring an aftermarket radio to your car, you will need to purchase an adapter harness that plugs into the stock wiring of the car and the wires connect to the radio wire harness correspondingly. I suggest soldering all the necessary wires and sealing them with shrink tube. It's the most solid, most sure way of a good connection without the worry of shorts and disconnections.

Q: So, I purchased a motion sensor light switch to replace the regular switches at my new condo. I have the wires exposed and I've identified the hot wire. My only problem is the hot wire (from inside the wall) is a single thick copper prong, whereas the wire for the motion sensor is split into like 15 different small copper wires.... I don't think the thick, single wire from the wall will work with the twisting wire connectors I purchased.... Am I able to just put the wires together and duct tape them??: No duct tape. Wire nuts will work for stranded and solid wire. Put them together twist the wire nut on then have a beer. Repeat process until you run out of beer or wire.

Q: i just got two new aiwa stereo speaker's they come with their own wiring in the back but i dont know which wire is whatthere is one black wireand there is another black with gray dashesim thinking the one with dashes is positive?the speaker works both ways: Chances are the marked wire is positive. For your purposes it doesn't matter a whole lot. The phasing (which DOES matter) will be correct as long as you are consistent with both speakers. If you can remove the front grill or otherwise see the speaker cone directly, you can check the polarity with a AA or other 1-1/2 volt battery. The cone will move forward when the positive wire is *briefly* touched to the positive terminal of the battery while the negative wire is held on the negative terminal. If you see it move back, you've connected the wires in reverse. Don

Q: We are replacing an older style submersible 3 wire well pump with a newer style 3 wire plus ground. I do not know where to ground the green wire? Is it necessary to extend the wire from the pump all the way to the top and ground it there or can i just ground it to the pump itself? Any ideas? First time home owner... trying to save money and not call an electrician (Im an avionics technician so I have some what of an idea what im doing.) Thanks: All wires coming from the pump should terminated in the Pressure Switch box. Take the green wire from the pump and the ground wire from the house, connect them together with a pigtail wire and attach the pigtail wire to the ground screw within the Pressure Switch box.

Q: Hey there, so my cat chewed through some of my wires, what should I do to like fix them?: go to your local hardware store and buy some wire connectors. turn your power off and snipe the wires off, and then put he ends together and twist the wire nuts on. This is the safest way to keep from having problems later on and a lot safer.

Q: I accidently spilled soda all over a bunch of wires and controllers. I cleaned the controllers off and they're not sticky, but what should i do about the wires?: Unplug any wires that are plugged in. Fold a damp sponge around each wire, and wipe it down. Make sure it's dry before plugging it back in. No big deal.

Q: Has anyone ever used welding wire in their car audio setup?Is it more flexible or less than other car power wire? Is this a big problem?Is it a good or bad jacket?Would you use it again?I am looking at buying some welding wire from weldingsupply because it is .81 per foot. I would love to know if anyone has done this before and what they thought. The wire i am looking at is 4 gague.: First off- it is cheaper than audio power wire, you can buy it as thick as 3 ought, I've seen it used. But flexibility is a big deal when hiding power wire, at least I think so, and welding wire is not the most flexible but it is better than solid wire, and power currant runs faster through audio power wire because of the small cooper strands that make up the wire. Than in welding wire because it has thicker and not as many strands that make up the wire, currant will run slower. Will any wire work? yes........ go to a smaller local audio dealer and ask the owner for info
