- Q: How do you paint a stone on a gypsum board?
- In order to ensure the quality of the stone pits on the gypsum board, please follow the following construction methods: 1, waterproof gypsum board. 2, grass-roots treatment. 3, full of putty again; to be greasy layer of white on the layer of sanding, remove the mark; 4, spray primer 2 times, interval of 2 hours, the thickness of about 30 microns, dry at room temperature for 12 hours. 5, polished: 400 - 600 mesh sandpaper, gently wipe the surface of the real stone can be raised sand. Note Intended to force can not be too fierce, otherwise it will damage the film, causing the bottom of the loose, serious will cause poor adhesion, really stone off. 6, spray paint twice: the next pot spray gun, pressure 4-7 kg / square centimeter, the construction is not less than 10 degrees Celsius, interval of 2 hours, the thickness of about 30 microns, completely dry to 7 days.
- Q: Lots of water dripped through and there are stains in the plaster swirl ceiling. No visible bubbling or damage though besides the stains. Should I be worried about mold in an interior (no insulation) ceiling? Is it important to cut out the stained plasterboard ceiling?
- If you are absolutely certain the leak has been fixed and there is no more water dripping... 1. Place a fan facing toward the ceiling for about a week or as long as it takes to make sure the ceiling is completely dry. 2. Paint the stained area with Killz. (Not sure of the spelling but it's a water stain retardant) Let it dry overnight, regardless of what the directions say telling you it's dry in less than two hours. 3. Paint the surface again with Killz 24 hours later. 4. Wait 24 hours to see if the stain is visible. If it is, paint another coat of Killz. 5. If the stain is undetectable, wait 48 hours and paint the ceiling with with the color of your choice. A second coat of paint may be required.
- Q: in england we use plasterboard and nail it to the joists then plaster over it for a smooth finish
- Sheetrock..Plasterboard ...Gyp rock..gypsom..drywall..wallboard..Gibral... board or GIB wall . Just different names for the same thing. The basic stuff is anywhere form 1/4 to 5/8 thick. It's made with paper on 2 sides and has a bevel for plastering seams. Then you get green board and blueboard for the bathroom or high moisture areas and you get wonderboard or durock or hardiboard that's like a sheet of flattened concrete for showers. As a note Plaster goes by alot of names here too...Joint compound, Mud, spackle, drywall compound these are used interchangably too altho there are different grades and drying times to different types.

- Q: I had to have the other walls rebuilt because they were so bad & I'm worried if I remove the wallpaper the plaster will fall off & new plaster won't stick to the crumbling walls. So I'll plasterboard strait over the wallpaper. Good idea or bad idea?
- When you say plasterboard, do you mean sheet rock or actual plaster where wooden batting has to be applied first? Well, either way, if the wall under the wallpaper is not stable, it could very well interfere with the new wall staying securely in place. However, if you put up new plasterboard with long enough screws to purchase into the studs of the walls behind the original walls, then it will be stable and keep the crumbling wall in it's place, I suppose.
- Q: Gypsum board can be directly posted on the wallpaper?
- And then tear up the sticker when you will find the gypsum board also spent.
- Q: I have moved into a new house which has an extension, I have found that the extension was not insulated. I wish to cut out some plasterboard, lay the insulation and then replace. Any ideas? There are 4 sunken spotlights in the ceiling which are at least 1 metre apart.
- It sounds like you will need to break apart, insulate properly and replace with new Plasterboard. I don't think there's a way to remove it without damaging.
- Q: Hello, im currently trying to take down my bathroom ceiling but am having trouble as the plaster seems to have chicken wire through it. im slowing prizing it away from the joists but its taking ages, has anyone any advice for me? i was hoping that the plaster would be attached to slats of wood that i could rip down, but like i said it seems to have been reinforced with chicken wire . . . .
- It is attached to metal lathe and seems to be pretty tight. I wouldn't take it down unless you have to for some reason. We oftentimes laminate new wallboard over the existing plaster. Use construction adhesive on the back of the new wallboard and 3 drywall screws and screw through to the joists above. If you're almost to the point of total removal, you can use a reciprocating saw ( with proper eye and breathing protection) and run it through the wire lathe between the joists then pry down the separated pieces. In a bathroom, use moisture resistant drywall at a minimum or mold and moisture resistant.
- Q: It doesn't mention the length, but I need it to be at least 3 inches long. Would this one work?
- That one will do the trick if it is three inches long. For all intents and purposes, plasterboard and dry wall are the same thing. Remember, however, if the think you are sticking in is a screw that is 3/16ths, you don't want to use a 3/16 drill, use one smaller so the threads have something to grab.
