Q:I have hot water everywhere else in the house the master bathroom has two sink and both of them have cold water but when I turn to the hot water nothing happens in either..the bathroom is upstairs over the hot weather heater and the temps here have been 2 below o, not sure if that matters..thanks!: If it's that cold there, I suppose it's possible that the hot line may have froze up. The problem is either in the line or in the faucet. Is the faucet a 2 handle? If so, you could try disassembling the hot stem to inspect it, after shutting the water off down below of course. You could remove the hot supply line and run water into a bucket to see if the problem is in the line or the faucet.

Q:Out of the blue, my main bathroom that guests primarily use starting having an earthy smell coming from the sink drain. Its on the main floor, and there are no floors above it (in other words, not another sink above it). I examined the plumbing under the sink, and everything seems to be in working order, no leaks, trap is in good shape, etc.What should I do here?: Pour some bleach and hot water down the drain.

Q:my sink has a stench coming up from the drain i believe. not sure what it is or how it got to smell so bad, but seems like it only comes up when i turn the water on(like the water gets the smell moving). really dont know what to do here? any advice?: You've already gotten good advice. One more thing to check though. If you have an overflow on your sink,typically a small hole just below the top of the sink, that could be where the smell is coming from. The overflow allows water to drain out if you've left the stopper closed and the water running. The water goes down through the inside of the body of the sink and connects to the drain line. On most sinks, water can collect inside. This can get very smelly. If, after cleaning the drain line, you put your nose near the overflow hole and detect the smell, use a funnel or a measuring cup to pour your favorite cleaning solution into the hole. Put in at least a cup and let it sit for an hour. Then pour hot water in. If you can find a bottle brush that will fit through the hole, a good scrubbing, followed by soaking and flushing, will do wonders. Flush it every month or two to keep it smelling fresh. Even if you've never allowed water to come up to the overflow, water will come into the space any time the drain backs up, even a little.

Q:I live in the first floor of a two floor apartment. When someone in up-stair uses the kitchen sink, the dirty water flows back to my kitchen sink. It snowed yesterday, and I do not have if that has anything to do with the situation.: you both share a common drain line and some body is putting grease down the drain and its choking the pipe, drain cleaner and a sink plunger might clear it if not then a small drum auger will help. then followed by lots of hot water, and tell your upstairs neighbor to refrain from using their sink until you finish clearing the drain, for best results bail out the water and have hot water ready to put in . people take for granted that all goes down ok but after time it builds up to the point of blockage that pipe is cold and it clings and just builds up to where a pea can block it. good luck and just changing a piece of pipe don't get the blockage I have a 35 foot drum snake and some times I barely make it to the clog it (the kitchen drain line) runs all the way to the main sewer line .

Q:both the sinks are flooding from the drain up. there is crap in the sink from the drain. its disgusting! and to keep it from overflowing i have to just pour the water out with a cup into the tub. help please!: Get a bucket place it under the P trap under the sink. Remove the compression nut on the trap and loosen the one holding the pipe in place at the wall. Drain the trap and if the line is full let it back drain into the bucket dump it in the toilet instaed of the the tub. Why the toilet ? It handles aoil and paper on a regular basis, the tub doesn't. There fore the tub drain is prone to clogging just as bad as the sink., Clean the trap out with hot water and scrub it out with a flexible brush. Run a sink tape down the drain and give it a few hardy turns and work it in and out of the drain pipe. This will dislodge most clogs and then just reassemble and flush the sink with Hot water.

Q:2 out of 3 of my cats pee in the sink, as well as the liter box. I just don't get it. They never did it before and then out of nowhere it started. WHY??? TIA.: Maybe you should close your bathroom door.
