Q: Office Chairs: I am looking good chair that is comfortable to sit in, will not hurt my back, easy to roll across my desk area. I have sat in the Herman Miller chair and really like them..don't think my boss will go for the $800+ price tag on it though. My desk is kind of low so my arm rest right now kind of get in the way. Q: I have a wood side chair that I am going to re-paint and re-cover to use with my desk. It is currently painted black and needs a paint job. I know spray painting is easiest to use, should I sand it first even for spray paint?: Yes. You definitly need to sand it first. Especially since your chair is black! It will be hard to cover black up with white, whether the paint is spray or in a can. Sand your chair, and yes spray paint will be fine. With paint, or glossy stains it is hard to get paint to stay on something and not stick easily without sanding. Hope it works out for you!

Q: I am looking for a very comfortable desk chair. with adjustable height, and one that I can tilt back in. Q: I got a beautiful new oak rocking chair as a gift and would like to make a chair pad for it. I have a sewing machine and have some beginner sewing skills. Any simple patterns or ideas would be greatly appriciated.: You need to cut 2 pieces of fabric. Cut them the shape of your chairs seat, only make them about 4 inches wider/bigger all the way around. You can use a sheet of newspaper to make your pattern. Then turn the fabric right sides together and stitch~start at the back of it, but leave about a 3 gap in the center,sew from that point around the side, the front and the other side until you get back to your gap. Then just stuff it with some poly-stuffing, and hand stitch the gap/opening closed. You can also make you a couple of strips to tie it onto your chair if needed, or buy some heavy duty matching ribbon or trim. If you don't want to make one, you can always buy a ready-made chair pad too:) Just a tip....by the time you buy your fabric, thread, filling, etc..it's just about cheaper to buy one:) Unless you already have your materials;) Good Luck!!

Q: So, a friend and I are in the middle of a pointless debate. Which would cause more damage, being hit by a chair or a human? We are assuming a human mass of about 77Kg and a chair mass of about 5kg. Both being swung at the the same velocity (about 20 m/s). I said the human because it has about 17 times more mass and momentum.Please set the record straight.: I assume you mean the chair is being swung by a human and the human's arm is swinging, not that a whole human is being swung? So it is a case of being hit by a human with a chair or by the human's fist? The chair would be swung more or less at arms length. Assuming the arm is turning at about the same rotational speed for either the fist or the chair, the end of the chair would actually be much further from the body than the fist at the end of the arm, so the bit of the chair which makes impact would actually be traveling much faster than the fist. You can't simply compare the mass of the human with that of the chair because the mass of the chair is increased by the human who is attached to it and swinging it. Effectively the person and chair become a single bludgeoning unit unless the person lets go of the chair. Given that the total mass is similar but the chair will have greater impact because the bit of the chair farthest from the person swinging it will be moving at a greater speed, the chair will do more damage. Add in to the equation the fact that a person punching will be more likely to pull back from a full impact because of the pain involved in the fist when it hits its mark - but the chair feeds back no pain to the assailant so it can be followed through at full impact. Finally, if the chair hits at one of the padded parts then the blow will be significantly cushioned, but if it is a wooden bit that hits, that will be harder than flesh-covered bone.

I've found beige chairs that are affordable though.: Buy any color chairs you like [ except black or gray ], and get throw pillows in a print with both of the colors. Repeat both color in other accessories - drapes or blinds, lamps, vases or flowerpots, ornaments, candles and holders. A little gold [ brass ] in picture frames, etc, looks nice with both colors. Q: My husband has a little rocking chair that was his as a child. It is made of wood and originally had a wicker seat which broke and has since been removed. I would like to refinish it and replace the wicker seat. Any suggestions on how to do this? I don't know where I would even buy wicker material...Thanks for any help!: Since it is child size, you might consider weaving a seat out of jute rope or a smoother type of rope. It's probably a square shape and all you have to do is weave the rope over and under, first on one side, then the other; similar to making a potholder on a loom. There would probably be online instructions, if you search for 'do it yourself chair seat weaving,' or check youtube for videos. Looking around online might give you ideas for other materials, besides rope; you'll also see suppliers of materials listed. Good luck! (My dad enjoyed weaving chair seats for a hobby.)
